Integrated approach for evaluation of pollution level of underground water in the vicinity of a municipal landfill

Underground Water Level Prediction in Remote Sensing Images Using Improved Hydro Index Value with Ensemble Classifier
PublicationThe economic sustainability of aquifers across the world relies on accurate and rapid estimates of groundwater storage changes, but this becomes difficult due to the absence of insitu groundwater surveys in most areas. By closing the water balance, hydrologic remote sensing measures offer a possible method for quantifying changes in groundwater storage. However, it is uncertain to what extent remote sensing data can provide an...

Physical modelling of water flow in 'Wild River' type water slide
PublicationPrzedstawiono wyniki fizycznego modelowania przepływu w zjeżdżalni wodnej typu Dzika Rzeka. Badania dotyczyły obiektu należącego do parku wodnego "Świat Wodny Nemo" w Sopocie. Eksperymenty przeprowadzono w Laboratorium Hydrauliki i Inżynierii Środowiska Politechniki Gdańskiej. Zaobserwowany w systemie kanałów i zbiorników przepływ wody można ocenić jako szybkozmienny. Wskutek zmian spadku dna kanałów oraz łuków trasy zjazdu obserwowano...

A Comparison of Simplified Two-dimensional Flow Models Exemplified by Water Flow in a Cavern
PublicationThe paper shows the results of a comparison of simplified models describing a two-dimensional water flow in the example of a water flow through a straight channel sector with a cavern. The following models were tested: the two-dimensional potential flow model, the Stokes model and the Navier-Stokes model. In order to solve the first two, the boundary element method was employed, whereas to solve the Navier-Stokes equations, the...

Influence of the air phase on water flow in dikes
PublicationNumerical models are often used to describe flow and deformation processes occurring in dikes during flood events. Modeling of such phenomena is a challenging task, due to the complexity of the system, consisting of three material phases: soil skeleton, pore water and pore air. Additional difficulties are transient loading caused by variable in time water levels, heterogeneity of the soil or air...

Modeling of unsaturated water flow in highly heterogeneous soils.

Numerical simulation of rapidly varied water flow in the ´Wild River´ type water slide
PublicationPrzedstawiono numeryczną analizę przepływu w zjeżdżalni wodnej typu "Dzika Rzeka". Jako model matematyczny przyjęto równania przepływu wody płytkiej. Wobec szybkozmiennego ruchu wody do rozwiązania zastosowano metodę objętości skończonych. Numeryczną symulację przepływu wykonano na trójkątnej siatce niestrukturalnej. Wyniki obliczeń porównano z obserwacjami na obiekcie rzeczywistym zainstalowanym w parku wodnym w Sopocie. Dodatkowo...

Interaction Between Storm Water Conduit Flow and Overland Flow for Numerical Modelling of Urban Area Inundation
PublicationNowadays we can observe increasing frequency of inundations in cities. This makes accurate predicting of inundations more important than ever. Numerical modeling of this issue requires complex approach with simultaneous calculations of pipe flow and surface flow. In this paper, after a short review of known methods used for solving pipe and surface flow, we will try to answer the question if presented methods would be sufficiently...

Simulations of air and water flow in a model dike during overflow experiments
PublicationFlow in flood dikes, earth dams, and embankments occurs in variably saturated conditions, with pores of the earth material filled partly with water and partly with air. In routine engineering analysis, the influence of pore air is neglected and the air pressure is assumed equal to atmospheric. In some circumstances, for example, during overtopping of the dike by water, the effect of pore air on water flow and stability of the structure...

Substance Flow Analysis of Mercury Affecting Water Quality in the European Union

Modeling of unsaturated water flow in double-porosity soils by the homogenization approach.

PublicationIn the present study treatability of persistent organic compounds from the flow back water after hydrauling fracturing was investigated. The combination of TiO2 photocatalyst and magnetic oxide nanoparticles enhance the separation and recoverable property of nanosized TiO2 photocatalyst. Fe3O4/ TiO2 and Fe3O4@SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by heteroagglomeration. The photocatalysts’ characteristics by X-ray diffractometry...

Interaction Between Storm Water Conduit And Surface Flow For Urban Flood Inundation Modelling
PublicationRapid development of urban areas always comes with great side effects. One of them is the occurrence of urban floods. Growth of impervious surfaces in cities leads to increasing run-off values. This together with difficulties connected with sewage modernization in cities marks urban inundations as being one of the most important issues concerning urban water. Accurate prediction of a phenomenon is difficult as it is highly dependent...
