    - Brain: A Journal of Neurology - Year 2014

High frequency oscillations are associated with normal brain function, but also increasingly recognized as potential biomarkers of the epileptogenic brain. Their role in human cognition has been predominantly studied in classical gamma frequencies (30-100 Hz), which reflect neuronal network coordination involved in attention, learning and memory. Invasive brain recordings in animals and humans demonstrate that physiological oscillations...

    Publication

    - CURRENT OPINION IN NEUROLOGY - Year 2016

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Localization of focal epileptic brain is critical for successful epilepsy surgery and focal brain stimulation. Despite significant progress, roughly half of all patients undergoing focal surgical resection, and most patients receiving focal electrical stimulation, are not seizure free. There is intense interest in high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) recorded with intracranial electroencephalography as potential...

  • Cognitive neuroscience: Theta network oscillations coordinate development of episodic memory

    Publication

Our ability to remember life events matures through childhood and adolescence. A new study has revealed how theta oscillations between two anatomical brain regions supporting memory and executive functions are synchronized and develop across age through functional and structural connectivity.

  • Friction-Induced Oscillations of a Non-Asbestos Organic Pin Sliding on a Steel Disc

    Publication

    - Acta Mechanica et Automatica - Year 2015

Friction-induced oscillations result in deterioration of performance of disc brakes and are generally undesired. We conduct experimental study of friction-induced oscillations in a non-asbestos organic material / steel pair used in disc brakes of motor vehicles. The tests are done by use of a pin-on-disc machine which has the pin sample supported on a deformable beam. The adjustable friction parameters are the disc velocity, contact...

    - MICROVASCULAR RESEARCH - Year 2015

Pial artery adjustments to changes in blood pressure (BP)may last only seconds in humans. Using a novelmethod called near-infrared transillumination backscattering sounding (NIR-T/BSS) that allows for the non-invasive measurement of pial artery pulsation (cc-TQ) in humans, we aimed to assess the relationship between spontaneous oscillations in BP and cc-TQ at frequencies between 0.5 Hz and 5 Hz. We hypothesized that analysis of...

  • Possibilities of using SVC compensators for synchronous generators rotors oscillations damping.

    Publication

    - Year 2014

The article presents the idea of using static var compensators (SVC) for damping generators rotors oscillations. A novel SVC controller structure is proposed to provide better dynamic performance of the power system. A tests results are shown for proposed controller structure, that was carried out in a three-machine power system model as well as in multi-machine model of Polish Power System.

  • Impact of slow breathing on the blood pressure and subarachnoid space width oscillations in humans

    Publication

    - Scientific Reports - Year 2019

The aim of the study was to assess cardiac and respiratory blood pressure (BP) and subarachnoid space (SAS) width oscillations during the resting state for slow and fast breathing and breathing against inspiratory resistance. Experiments were performed on a group of 20 healthy volunteers (8 males and 12 females; age 25.3 ± 7.9 years; BMI = 22.1 ± 3.2 kg/m2). BP and heart rate (HR) were measured using continuous finger-pulse photoplethysmography....

  • Mode choice modelling for urban areas

    Publication

The article presents the question of mode choice modelling in a four-stage travel modelling process. The article indicates limitations of currently used simplified methods of mode choice modelling and presents the possibility of using a more detailed approach that accounts for additional, statistically significant factors with the use of advanced mathematical tools, discrete choice models. A need has also been identified to include...

  • Theoretical study of thermofrictional oscillations due to negative friction-temperature characteristic

    Publication

    - TRIBOLOGY INTERNATIONAL - Year 2013

Analytical study on oscillations of a body on a moving counterbody has been done by assuming imperfect frictional thermal contact and friction that decreases with contact temperature. It has been shown that stick-slip oscillation occurs due to decrease of friction coefficient when the body moves in the opposite direction to the counterbody. Dynamical characteristics, such as conditions for stable sliding and limit cycles, have...

  • Highly-Miniaturized Dual-Mode Bandpass Filter Based on Quarter-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide with Wide Stopband

    Publication

    - IEEE Access - Year 2022

This paper presents a novel design of a highly-miniaturized dual-mode bandpass filter (BPF) employing a quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW). The QMSIW resonator is based on a square cavity with metallic vias along two sides, and open-ended edges at the remaining sides that contain orthogonal feed lines. An open slot is introduced along the two sides of the square cavity with metallic vias to form a magnetic wall....

    - MECHANISM AND MACHINE THEORY - Year 2017

One of the main disadvantages of gear mechanisms is the occurrence of noise and vibrations. This study investigated the applicability of non-circular gears for preventing resonance oscillations in gear mechanisms. The influence of a small deviation of the gear centrodes from the nominal circles on kinematic and oscillatory characteristics was analysed. It was shown that a larger deviation results in a smaller resonance amplitude...

  • SLIDING MODE-PID FUZZY CONTROLLER WITH A NEW REACHING MODE FOR UNDERWATER ROBOTIC MANIPULATORS

Design of an accurate and robust controller is a challenging topic in an underwater manipulator control. This is due to hydrodynamic disturbances in underwater environment. In this paper a sliding mode control (SMC) included a PID sliding surface and fuzzy tunable gain is designed. In this proposed controller robustness property of SMC and fast response of PID are incorporated with fuzzy rules to reduce error tracking. In the...

Oscylacje zależą nie tylko od parametrów układu, ale także od wartości i kierunku przepływu mocy przepływającej przez filtr. Stany przejściowe w napięciu sieci oddziałują na układ sterowania przekształtnika...

    - JOURNAL OF NEUROPHYSIOLOGY - Year 2013

High-frequency oscillations (HFO; gamma: 40-100 Hz, ripples: 100-200 Hz, and fast ripples: 250-500 Hz) have been widely studied in health and disease. These phenomena may serve as biomarkers for epileptic brain; however, a means of differentiating between pathological and normal physiological HFO is essential. We categorized task-induced physiological HFO during periods of HFO induced by a visual or motor task by measuring frequency,...

  • Bile salts in digestion and transport of lipids

    Publication

    - ADVANCES IN COLLOID AND INTERFACE SCIENCE - Year 2019

Because of their unusual chemical structure, bile salts (BS) play a fundamental role in intestinal lipid digestion and transport. BS have a planar arrangement of hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties, which enables the BS molecules to form peculiar self-assembled structures in aqueous solutions. This molecular arrangement also has an influence on specific interactions of BS with lipid molecules and other compounds of ingested food...
