Concrete mix design using machine learning
PublicationDesigning a concrete mix is a process of synthesizing many components, it is not a simple process and requires extensive technical knowledge. The design process itself focuses on obtaining the required strength of concrete. Very often designing a concrete mix takes into account the need to maintain the proper water-demand and frost-resistance features. The parameters that influence the concrete class most significantly are the...

Negative Poisson’s ratio from pentagons: A new auxetic structure combining three different auxetic mechanisms
PublicationA novel class of two-dimensional auxetic structures based on the pentagon motif is proposed. Their mechanical properties are investigated by combining molecular mechanics simulations with a simple three-parameter mechanical model which assumes perfectly elastic behavior. It is predicted that the proposed structures – termed as double re-entrant honeycomb – may possess unique mechanical characteristics, which include complete and...

On description of periodic magnetosonic perturbations in a quasi-isentropic plasma with mechanical and thermal losses and electrical resistivity
PublicationMagnetosonic periodic perturbations in a uniform and infinite plasma model are considered. Damping due to compressional viscosity, electrical resistivity, and thermal conduction are taken into account, as well as some heating–cooling function, which may destroy the isentropicity of wave perturbations. The wave vector forms arbitrary angle h with the equilibrium straight magnetic field, and all perturbations are functions...

Mechanical, durability, depolluting and electrical properties of multifunctional mortars prepared with commercial or waste carbon-based fillers
PublicationCarbon-based fillers from industrial wastes and commercial ones were compared to improve the properties of lime-based mixes. As commercial fillers, graphene nanoplatelets and activated carbon were used, whereas as industrial wastes a char obtained by the gasification of biomasses and a used foundry sand were chosen. Carbon-based wastes were found to be a good cost-effective alternative to commercial carbon based fillers to increase...

Hybridization of valuation procedures as a medicine supporting the real estate market and sustainable land use development during the covid-19 pandemic and afterwards
PublicationCurrently we are facing the pandemic situation that occur all over the world. Regardless the country or even the region, the negative consequences that are expected could be very big and the level of crisis is not predictable. This situation is the challenge for the real estate market as well. Due to this fact, the authors believe that there is the time when deep transformation of approaches, procedures and awareness related to...

Behavioral state classification in epileptic brain using intracranial electrophysiology
PublicationOBJECTIVE: Automated behavioral state classification can benefit next generation implantable epilepsy devices. In this study we explored the feasibility of automated awake (AW) and slow wave sleep (SWS) classification using wide bandwidth intracranial EEG (iEEG) in patients undergoing evaluation for epilepsy surgery. APPROACH: Data from seven patients (age [Formula: see text], 4 women) who underwent intracranial depth electrode...

Analysis of diagnostic informativeness of the exhaust temperature of a naval gas turbine
PublicationThe conducted investigations aimed to carry out an analysis of the possibility that the failures identification in the automatic control system of a gas turbine engine could be worked out on the basis of measurements of the exhaust stream temperature behind the gas generator. The exhaust temperature represents a basic control parameter, enabling technical state evaluation of the engine within the operation process, which is observed...

Application of Semantic Knowledge Management System in Selected Areas of Polish Public Administration
PublicationThis paper describes an application of semantic technologies and knowledge management systems in chosen areas of Polish public administration. Short analyses of crisis management and EU policy coordination processes are presented. An architecture of a knowledge management system with interfaces using controlled natural language is proposed. A lot of examples are shown that prove a usefulness of semantic knowledge management and...

PublicationThe paper discusses results of tests performed by authors, related to the angine bearings diagnostic using vibration and stator current measurements. The paper contains the description of an automatic measurement system, developed for measurement of those harmonics and processing that to obtain bearing diagnostic information. System was tested on objects with intentionally made defects in bearings, results of this test was also...

Substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) filter design using space mapping
PublicationIn this paper, we present a fast technique for an automated design of microwave filters in substrate integrated wave (SIW) technology. The proposed methodology combines the space mapping technique with a cost function defined using the location of complex zeros and poles of filter’s transfer and reflection function and uses a rectangular waveguide as a surrogate model. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is presented with...

Experimental study on polymer mass used to repair damaged structures
PublicationA new method of repairing damaged structures by injecting the cracks with specially designed polymer mass (flexible two-component grout based on polyurethane resin) has been recently proposed. The technique is mainly dedicated to damaged masonries, especially historical structures where minimum intervention is permitted. The cracks are filled with the special injection, forming the flexible joints bonding the disrupted structural...

Investigations of size effect in concrete at aggregate level - experiments and calculations results using discrete element method
PublicationSize effect is a fundamental phenomenon in concrete. It is characterised by decreasing strength and increasing brittleness of concrete with increasing size. The thesis includes experimental and theoretical elements. The main goal of the thesis were investigations of a size effect at the aggregate level by taking fracture into account with the discrete element method (DEM) for various failure modes. Comprehensive experiments on...

Conductive Thermoplastic Polyurethane Nanocomposite Foams Derived from a Cellulose/MWCNTs Aerogel Framework: Simultaneous Enhancement of Piezoresistance, Strength, and Endurance
PublicationHigh conductivity and excellent mechanical properties of composite polymers favors their application as piezoresistive strain sensors. Nonetheless, it is difficult to develop composite polymers with desirable piezoresistance, mechanicaland durable properties. Herein, we developed conductive cellulose/MWCNTs aerogel using the freeze-drying technique. Besides, we explored the application of the highly-sensitive piezoresistive polymer...

Experimental Study on Dynamics of Wooden House Wall Panels with Different Thermal Isolation
PublicationWood frame buildings are very popular in regions that are exposed to different dynamic excitations including earthquakes. Therefore, their seismic resistance is really important in order to prevent structural damages and human losses. The aim of the present paper is to show the results of experimental tests focused on the dynamic response of wall panels of a wooden frame building with thermal isolation made of mineral wool and...
