Reduction in Errors in Roughness Evaluation with an Accurate Definition of the S-L Surface
PublicationCharacterization of surface topography, roughly divided into measurement and data analysis, can be valuable in the process of validation of the tribological performance of machined parts. Surface topography, especially the roughness, can respond straightly to the machining process and, in some cases, is defined as a fingerprint of the manufacturing. When considering the high precision of surface topography studies, the definition...

N-Alkyl Derivatives of L-Glutamine As Inhibitors of Glutamine - Utilizing Enzymes
PublicationA general facile method to synthesize the N-gamma-alkyl and N-gamma,N-gamma-dialkyl derivatives of L-glutamine (1a-d) from L-glutamic acid as a starting substrate is presented. The obtained compounds are shown to inhibit three diferent glutamine-utilizing enzymes, namely: glutaminase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, and glucosamine-6-phosphate synthase, with inhibitory constants within the milimolar range.

In-tube extraction for the determination of the main volatile compounds in Physalis peruviana L
PublicationAn analytical procedure based on in-tube extraction followed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry has been developed for the analysis of 24 main volatile components in cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.) samples. According to their chemical structure, the compounds were organized into different groups: one hydrocarbon, one aldehyde, four alcohols, four esters, and 14 monoterpenes. By single-factor experiments, incubation...

More on the poly(L-lactide) prepared using ferrous acetate as catalyst
PublicationPolilaktydy przygotowano w syntezie polegajacej na otworzeniu pierścienia (ROP). Syntezę przeprowadzono w bloku z różną ilością octanu żelaza, użytego jako katalizatora. Zbadano przebieg krystalizacji polilaktydów i podatnośc na biodegradację w osadzie czynnym.

Antifungal activity of L-homoserine O-acetyltransferase (CaMet2p) inhibitors.
Open Research DataThe dataset contains a set of optical densities at 600 nm measured at microplate reader to determine the rate of fungal growth in the presence of Candida albicans homoserine O-acetyltransferase inhibitors. Antifungal activities were determined against several strains from Candida spp. and others by the modified M27-A3 method specified by the CLSI. We...

Activity assay of O-Acetyl-L-homoserine sulfhydrylase (CaMet15p).
Open Research DataThe study aimed to obtain conditions optimal for the activity of O-acetyl-L-homoserine sulfhydrylase (CaMet15p) and a method suitable for its measurement. The selection of appropriate reaction conditions included the identification of the reaction buffer and its pH, substrate and enzyme concentrations. The activity of CaMet15p was measured by the detection...

Milky Sap of Greater Celandine (Chelidonium majus L.) and Anti-Viral Properties
PublicationThe milky juice of the greater celandine herb has been used in folk medicine and in homeopathy for treatment of viral warts for years. However, classical medicine fails to use properties of celandine herbs in treatment of diseases induced by papilloma viruses. Nevertheless, dermatological outpatient clinics are regularly visited by patients reporting efficacy of milky sap isolated from celandine herb in treatment of their own...

Accumulation of volatile constituents in agar and bioreactor shoot cultures of Verbena officinalis L.
PublicationIn vitro shoot cultures of common vervain (Verbena officinalis L., Verbenaceae) were established and evaluated for essential oil content. The shoots were maintained as stationary microshoot culture, grown on Schenk–Hildebrandt medium supplemented with 9.84 µM of 2-isopentenyladenine and 1.0 µM of thidiazuron. The shoots were further adapted to grow in two temporary immersion bioreactors (RITA and Plantform), using Schenk–Hildebrandt...

THE EFFECT OF DRYING INTENSITY ON THE COLOR CHANGES OF PINE WOOD (PINUS SYLVESTRIS L.)
PublicationThe effect of the selection of drying process parameters on the color change of Scots pine wood (Pinus Sylvestris L.) is presented. In this work the experimental studies have been performed. The research focused on the influence of drying intensity on the changes of color after drying process. Intensity of drying process was determined on the basis of the average drying gradient. To determine the color of wood before and after...

Novel “acid tuned” deep eutectic solvents based on protonated L-proline
PublicationThe paper presents new types of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on L-proline protonated using three different acids (hydrochloric, sulfuric and phosphoric)and playing the role of a hydrogen bond acceptor(HBA). Glucose and xylitol were used as hydrogen bond donors (HBD). A series of deep eutectic solvents with various mole ratios were obtained for the systems L-proline: glucose and L-proline: xylitol. Density, melting point,...

Polarimetric studies of L-arginine-doped potassium dihydrogen phosphate single crystals
PublicationConoscopic interference patterns, channelled spectra and polarimetric techniques have been used for the characterization of pure and doped (with L-arginine amino acid) potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) single crystals. Experimental polarimetric data have been obtained for the frequently used wavelength of 633 nm and for two close wavelengths of 532 and 543 nm in a high-accuracy dual-wavelength polarimeter. The measurement of...

Antifungal Effect of Penicillamine Due to the Selective Targeting of L-Homoserine O-Acetyltransferase
PublicationDue to the apparent similarity of fungal and mammalian metabolic pathways, the number of established antifungal targets is low, and the identification of novel ones is highly desirable. The results of our studies, presented in this work, indicate that the fungal biosynthetic pathway of L-methionine, an amino acid essential for humans, seems to be an attractive perspective. The MET2 gene from Candida albicans encoding L-homoserine...

Effects of artificial lighting on bioactivity of sweet red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.)
PublicationRecent studies have shown that artificial light effectively promotes the growth and development of red peppers when light spectra, intensities and duration are controlled. Cited reports deal mostly with studies involving with the growth stages of pepper. Changes in the biochemical status of plants were not studied. Therefore, this study focuses on the changes in the content of some bioactive compounds (polyphenols, flavonoids,...

Effect of MgSO4 nutrition on Theobroma cacao L. susceptibility to Phytophthora megakarya infection
PublicationA new strategy to reduce the severity of black pod disease (BPD) in T. cacao plants using MgSO4 nutrition was investigated. The dynamics of the tolerance to BPD of 18 susceptible T. cacao plantlets coming from the cross (♀SNK64 × ♂UPA14) was monitored during weekly (8 weeks) supply of MgSO4 into the soil. Prior to MgSO4 application, disease scores of the 18 plantlets (in six sets of three plantlets per set) were varying between...
