  Zbadana wewnątrzkomórkowa termostabilna alfa-glukozydaza z Thermus thermo-philus przejawia największą aktywność w 85 C przy pH 6.2. Aktywność enzymu po 5 h inkubacji w 75 C (pH 6.2) prawie nie ulega zmianie a okres połowicznej inaktywacji w 85 C wynosi 2 h. Właściwości te wskazują na przydatność wymienionego enzymu w jednoetapowej hydrolizie skrobi.

  Gen kodujący alfa-amylazę z Pyrococcus woesei klonowano do plazmidów pET21d(+)lub pYTB2, którymi transformowano komórki Escherichia coli. Otrzymana rekombinantowa alfa amylaza wykazuje maksymalną aktywność przy pH 5.6 w temperaturze 95 stC i przejawia około 24 % początkowej aktywności nawet po 2 godz. inkubacji w 120 stC. Duża termostabilność otrzymanego preparatu świadczy o jego przydatności do enzymatycznego upłynniania skrobi.

Dotąd były znane białka SSB jedynie o budowie homotetrameru lub heterotrimeru. Białka SSB Thermus thermophilus i T. aquaticus stanowią nową klasę białek SSB - białek homodimerycznych.
