Aggregation and excitation trapping of 3,3'-diethyl-9-methylthiacarbocyanine iodide in disordered and uniaxially oriented polymer films
PublikacjaPrzedstawiono analizę właściwości fotofizycznych barwnika 3,3'-diethyl-9-methylthiacarbocyanine iodide (MDTCI)domieszkowanego w zakresie dużych koncentracji w nieuporządkowanych osiowo rozciąganych foliach polimerowych. Zaobserwowano obecność fluoryzujących agregatów MDCTI zarówno w foliach nierozciąganych i rozciąganych stosując metody spektroskopii czasowo-rozdzielonej.

Modulation of dielectric properties in low-loss polypropylene-based composites at GHz frequencies: theory and experiment
PublikacjaPolymer composites with high dielectric constant and low loss tangent are highly regarded as substrates for modern high-speed electronics. In this work, we analyze the high-frequency dielectric properties of two types of composites based on polypropylene infused with high-dielectric-constant microparticles. Two types of fillers are used: commercial ceramics or titanium oxide ( TiO2) with different concentrations. The key observation...

Surface active fatty acid ILs: Influence of the hydrophobic tail and/or theimidazolium hydroxyl functionalization on aggregates formation
PublikacjaNine structurally-related fatty acid ionic liquids have been prepared and their thermal behavior as well as their ability to self-assemble in water has been investigated. The thermal properties were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), while the aggregation behavior was analyzed by tensiometry, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), conductometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS),...

Structure and performance properties of environmentally-friendly biocomposites based on poly(ɛ-caprolactone) modified with copper slag and shale drill cuttings wastes
PublikacjaThe potential application of two types of industrial wastes, drill cuttings (DC) and copper slag (CS), as silica-rich modifiers of poly(ɛ-caprolactone) (PCL) was investigated. Chemical structure and physical properties of DC and CS fillers were characterized using X-ray diffractometer, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, particle size and density measurements. PCL/DC and PCL/CS composites with a variable content of filler (5 to 50...

Spectroscopic properties of Rhodamine B entrapped in hybrid porous nanolayers at high dye concentration
PublikacjaThe preparation procedure and characterization of Rhodamine B entrapped in zirconia, silica and mixed silica–zirconia nanolayers is described. The nanolayers were produced by the sol–gel spin-coating technique. The pronounced effect of the dye concentration on the absorption and fluorescence spectra as well as on time-resolved fluorescence spectra was found. The results show that the aggregation of Rhodamine B is stronger in silica...

Theoretical investigation of the structural insights of the interactions of γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticle with (EMIM TFSI) ionic liquid
PublikacjaOne of the possible applications of ionic liquids is to produce electricity from heat. The iron oxide nanoparticle is a potent electrical particle, which is expected to improve the heat’s efficiency to electricity conversion, however, it is prone to aggregation and sedimentation, which hamper its application. One of the methods to enhance the nanoparticle’s solubility and electrical properties is the use of a stabilizing component...

Molecular Umbrellas Modulate the Selective Toxicity of Polyene Macrolide Antifungals
PublikacjaAntifungal polyene macrolide antibiotics Amphotericin B (AmB) and Nystatin (NYS) were conjugated through the ω-amino acid linkers with diwalled “molecular umbrellas” composed of spermidine-linked deoxycholic or cholic acids. The presence of “umbrella” substituents modulated biological properties of the antibiotics, especially their selective toxicity. Some of the AmB-umbrella conjugates demonstrated antifungal in vitro activity...

Hydration of Simple Model Peptides in Aqueous Osmolyte Solutions
PublikacjaThe biology and chemistry of proteins and peptides are inextricably linked with water as the solvent. The reason for the high stability of some proteins or uncontrolled aggregation of others may be hidden in the properties of their hydration water. In this study, we investigated the effect of stabilizing osmolyte–TMAO (trimethylamine N-oxide) and destabilizing osmolyte–urea on hydration shells of two short peptides, NAGMA (N-acetyl-glycine-methylamide)...

Thermodynamics and kinetics of amphotericin B self-association in aqueous solution characterized in molecular detail
PublikacjaAmphotericin B (AmB) is a potent but toxic drug commonly used to treat systemic mycoses. Its efficiency as a therapeutic agent depends on its ability to discriminate between mammalian and fungal cell membranes. The association of AmB monomers in an aqueous environment plays an important role in drug selectivity, as oligomers formed prior to membrane insertion – presumably dimers – are believed to act differently on fungal (ergosterol-rich)...

Application of spectroscopy to the measurement of blood parameters
PublikacjaSpectroscopy is the study of formation and interpretation of the spectra arising from the interactions of all types of radiation on matter, understood as a collection of atoms and molecules. This is a very important department of optics which gives us many opportunities to measure various parameters such as material blood parameters. Among the diseases that are associated significantly with changes in rheological properties of...

The effect of high pressure at subzero temperature on proteins solubility, drip loss and texture of fish (cod and salmon) and mammal’s (pork and beef) meat
PublikacjaOne of the possibilities of using high pressure technique in inactivation of microorganism is conducting this process at subzero temperature. However, for its practical application in meat preservation the appropriate properties of meat should be kept. Therefore, the aim of this work was to examine the effect of pressure at subzero temperature (without freezing of water) on proteins and texture of mammal’s and cold-adapted fish...
