On symmetric extendibility of quantum states and its applications
PublikacjaThis dissertation is focused on analysis of the symmetric extendibility of quantum states and its applications in the quantum information theory, with special attention paid to the area of quantum entanglement distillation, quantum channels theory, quantum security, and monogamy of quantum entanglement in time. We analyze geometry of the set of symmetric extendible states, i.e. such states that possess symmetric extensions and...

Experimental generation of complex noisy photonic entanglement
PublikacjaWe present an experimental scheme based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion to produce multiple-photon pairs in maximally entangled polarization states using an arrangement of two type-I nonlinear crystals. By introducing correlated polarization noise in the paths of the generated photons we prepare mixed-entangled states whose properties illustrate fundamental results obtained recently in quantum information theory, in particular those...

Superadditivity of two quantum information resources
PublikacjaEntanglement is one of the most puzzling features of quantum theory and a principal resource for quantum information processing. It is well known that in classical information theory, the addition of two classical information resources will not lead to any extra advantages. On the contrary, in quantum information, a spectacular phenomenon of the superadditivity of two quantum information resources emerges. It shows that quantum...

Quantum metrology: Heisenberg limit with bound entanglement
PublikacjaQuantum entanglement may provide a huge boost in the precision of parameter estimation. However, quantum metrology seems to be extremely sensitive to noise in the probe state. There is an important still open question: What type of entanglement is useful as a resource in quantum metrology? Here we raise this question in relation to entanglement distillation. We provide a counterintuitive example of a family of bound entangled states...

Experimentally feasible semi-device-independent certification of four-outcome positive-operator-valued measurements
PublikacjaRecently the quantum information science community devoted a lot of attention to the theoretical and practical aspects of generalized measurements, the formalism of all possible quantum operations leading to acquisition of classical information. On the other hand, due to imperfections present in quantum devices, and limited thrust to them, a trend of formulating quantum information tasks in a semi-device-independent manner emerged....

Progress towards a unified approach to entanglement distribution
PublikacjaEntanglement distribution is key to the success of secure communication schemes based on quantum mechanics, and there is a strong need for an ultimate architecture able to overcome the limitations of recent proposals such as those based on entanglement percolation or quantum repeaters. In this work we provide a broad theoretical background for the development of such technologies. In particular, we investigate the question of whether...

A simple test for quantum channel capacity
PublikacjaBased on state and channel isomorphism we point out that semidefiniteprogramming can be used as a quick test for nonzero one-way quantum channelcapacity. This can be achieved by searching for symmetric extensions of statesisomorphic to a given quantum channel. With this method we provide examplesof quantum channels that can lead to high entanglement transmission but stillhave zero one-way capacity, in particular, regions of symmetric...

In this paper we analyze composite systems containing a symmetric extendible part, with particular attention devoted to the one-way security of such systems. Further, we introduce a new one-way entanglement...

Distributed correlations and information flows within a hybrid multipartite quantum-classical system
PublikacjaUnderstanding the non-Markovian mechanisms underlying the revivals of quantum entanglement in the presence of classical environments is central in the theory of quantum information. Tentative interpretations have been given by either the role of the environment as a control device or the concept of hidden entanglement. We address this issue from an information-theoretic point of view. To this aim, we consider a paradigmatic tripartite...

Method for universal detection of two-photon polarization entanglement
PublikacjaDetecting and quantifying quantum entanglement of a given unknown state poses problems that are fundamentally important for quantum information processing. Surprisingly, no direct (i.e., without quantum tomography) universal experimental implementation of a necessary and sufficient test of entanglement has been designed even for a general two-qubit state. Here we propose an experimental method for detecting a collective universal...

Efficient bounds on quantum-communication rates via their reduced variants
PublikacjaWe investigate one-way communication scenarios where Bob operating on his component can transfer some subsystem to the environment. We define reduced versions of quantum-communication rates and, further, prove upper bounds on a one-way quantum secret key, distillable entanglement, and quantum-channel capacity by means of their reduced versions. It is shown that in some cases they drastically improve their estimation.

Quantum-correlation breaking channels, broadcasting scenarios, and finite Markov chains
PublikacjaOne of the classical results concerning quantum channels is the characterization of entanglementbreakingchannels [M. Horodecki et al., Rev. Math. Phys 15, 629 (2003)]. We address the questionwhether there exists a similar characterization on the level of quantum correlations which may gobeyond entanglement. The answer is fully affirmative in the case of breaking quantum correlationsdown to the, so called, QC (Quantum-Classical)...

Communication lattices consisting of butterfly-type entanglement-breaking channels augmented, with some probability, by identity channels are analyzed. The capacity superadditivity in the network is manifested in directed correlated bond percolation which we consider in two flavors: simply directed and...

Nonadditivity of quantum and classical capacities for entanglement breaking multiple-access channels and the butterfly network
PublikacjaWe analyze quantum network primitives which are entanglement breaking. We show superadditivity of quantum and classical capacity regions for quantum multiple-access channels and the quantum butterfly network. Since the effects are especially visible at high noise they suggest that quantum information effects may be particularly helpful in the case of the networks with occasional high noise rates. The present effects provide a qualitative...

Long-distance quantum communication over noisy networks without long-time quantum memory
PublikacjaThe problem of sharing entanglement over large distances is crucial for implementations of quantum cryptography. A possible scheme for long-distance entanglement sharing and quantum communication exploits networks whose nodes share Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) pairs. In Perseguers et al. [Phys. Rev. A 78, 062324 (2008)] the authors put forward an important isomorphism between storing quantum information in a dimension D and transmission...

Inequivalence of entanglement, steering, and Bell nonlocality for general measurements
PublikacjaEinstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering is a form of inseparability in quantum theory commonly acknowledged to be intermediate between entanglement and Bell nonlocality. However, this statement has so far only been proven for a restricted class of measurements, namely, projective measurements. Here we prove that entanglement, one-way steering, two-way steering, and nonlocality are genuinely different considering general measurements,...

Blurred quantum Darwinism across quantum reference frames

However, observations are done with respect to a frame of reference. Here, we take the formalism of [Giacomini, Castro-Ruiz, & Brukner. Nat Commun 10, 494 (2019)], and consider the repercussions on objectivity when changing quantum reference...

Dynamical description of quantum computing: generic nonlocality of quantumnoise
PublikacjaWe develop a dynamical non-Markovian description of quantum computing in the weak-coupling limit, in the lowest-order approximation. This shows that the implicit assumption of quantum error...

Bound on Bell inequalities by fraction of determinism and reverse triangle inequality

In the paper we show that quantum mechanics allows for...

Telomeric DNA, composed of tandem repeats of the 5'-TTAGGG-3' motif, solves the so-called end replication problem: as chromosomes shorten with each cell division, no information is lost, and the telomere can be re-extended. In the cell, many protein factors regulate telomere length, nuclear positioning...
