Influence of algorithmic management practices on workplace well-being – evidence from European organisations
PublikacjaPurpose Existing literature on algorithmic management practices –defined as autonomous data-driven decision making in people's management by adoption of self-learning algorithms and artificial intelligence – suggests complex relationships with employees' well-being in the workplace. While the use of algorithms can have positive impacts on people-related decisions, they may also adversely influence job autonomy, perceived justice...

The potential role of bisphenol A in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome
PublikacjaPolycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age, that lead to infertility, type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease. Bisphenol A (BPA) is one of the most abundant chemicals produced worldwide and is used as a plasticizer in daily life. Nowadays it is also well know that it can interact with estrogen receptors, androgen receptors and peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptors g (PPARg)....

Mercury concentration and the absolute and relative sizes of the internal organs in cormorants Phalacrocorax carbo (L. 1758) from the breeding colony by the Vistula Lagoon (Poland)
PublikacjaThis work analyses the effect of mercury on the condition of cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) from an extensive breeding colony in northern Poland, the largest in Europe. A total of 55 birds (44 adults and 11 immature) were obtained. Total mercury (Hg) concentrations were measured in the liver, kidneys, breast muscles, heart, gullet (oesophagus), stomach, intestines, trachea, lungs and eyeballs. The total body mass (TBM) and empty...

Characteristics of volatile organic compounds emission profiles from hot road bitumens
PublikacjaA procedure for the investigation and comparison of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission profiles to the atmosphere from road bitumens with various degrees of oxidation is proposed. The procedure makes use of headspace analysis and gas chromatography with universal as well as selective detection, including gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The studies revealed that so-called vacuum residue, which is the main component...

Investigation of volatile low molecular weight compounds formed during continuous reclaiming of ground tire rubber
PublikacjaGround tire rubber was thermo-mechanically reclaimed at different temperature conditions (80, 120, 160 °C) using a co-rotating twin screw extruder. The progress of ground tire rubber reclaiming was evaluated with specific mechanical energy, sol fraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including volatile sulfur compounds (VCSs) released from ground tire rubber and ground tire rubber after reclaiming...

Nutritional and Pharmaceutical Properties of Bioactive Compounds in Organic and Conventional Growing Kiwifruit
PublikacjaThe bioactivity of two kiwifruit’s cultivars growing under organic and conventional conditions were studied and compared. The bioactive compounds were extracted with water and ethanol using similar conditions which are applied in pharmaceutical applications and for daily fruit consumption such as tea drink. Antioxidant radical scavenging assays [ferric-reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP); cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC);...

The influence of phosphorus fractions in bottom sediments on phosphate removal in semi-natural systems as the 3rd stage of biological wastewater treatment
PublikacjaThe research was carried out in two semi-natural systems (the polishing ponds in Swarzewo and the free water surface constructed wetland in Zarnowiec) in Poland. They were built as the 3rd stage of a conventional mechanical–biological wastewater treatment plant. These systems were built to improve the quality of the effluent of treated wastewater. In the polishing ponds and FWS wetland system, suspended solids, organic matter as...

Binocular Vision Impairments Therapy Supported By Contactless Eye-gaze Tracking System
PublikacjaBinocular vision impairments often result in partial or total loss of stereoscopic vision. The lack of binocular vision is a serious vision impairment that deserves more attention. Very important result of the binocular vision impairments is a binocular depth perception. This paper describes also a concept of a measurement and therapy system for the binocular vision impairments by using eye-gaze tracking system.

Role of methylation in electron scattering on X(CH3)4 (X = C, Si, Ge) molecules
PublikacjaTotal cross sections (TCS) for low-energy electron scattering from X(CH3)4 (where X = C, Si, Ge) molecules have been measured using linear transmission method. Present results and those obtained previously for XH4 molecules were used to determine how methylation of the target is reflected in TCS energy dependence.

Number of own bank branches (2017)
Dane BadawczeThe number of traditional bank branches is decreasing. As can be seen from the data presented in the table below, over the year (2016-2017), the network of bank branches in Poland decreased by over half a thousand (currently the total number of traditional bank branches, excluding partner branches, amounts to nearly 6 thousand). None of the 20 largest...

Elastic distortional buckling of thin-walled bars of closed quadratic cross-section
PublikacjaIn this study a thin-walled bar with closed quadratic cross-section is considered. The elastic stability of axially compressed bar related to the cross-section distortion is investigated. The governing differential equation is derived with aid of the principle of stationary total potential energy. The critical load for the simply supported bar is found in analytical form and it is compared with the FEM solution. Sufficient accuracy...

Magnetosonic Excitation of the Entropy Perturbations in a Plasma with Thermal Conduction Depending on Temperature
PublikacjaNonlinear excitation of the entropy perturbations by magnetosonic waves in a uniform and infinite plasma model is considered. The wave vector of slow or fast mode forms an arbitrary angle (0 B B ) with the equilibrium straight magnetic field, and all perturbations are functions of the time and longitudinal coordinate. Thermal conduction is the only factor which destroys isentropicity of wave perturbations and causes the nonlinear...

In Search for Answers: Light4Health Online Course of Health Research for Interior Lighting Design
PublikacjaThree years ago, when I wrote an article in arc called: Human Centric Lighting. The New X Factor? (arc no. 108 Feb/Mar 2019), my intention was to raise questions in relation to the new topic and to find solid, research-based answers in the years to come. Today, I am happy to report that the lighting community, with the Light4Health Online Course of Health Research for Interior Lighting Design, has a useful tool, and consortium...

Stability of roof trusses stiffened by trapezoidal sheeting and purlins
PublikacjaIn the article linear buckling analysis of a set of steel trusses braced by purlins and trapezoidal sheeting are conducted. The buckling load factor due to the height of a corrugated sheeting profile is investigated in parametric studies. The minimal height of trapezoidal sheeting required for preventing the sheeting and chords of the trusses against the buckling is obtained. Two groups of models are considered: “axial” model as...

Testing A Novel Gesture-Based Mixing Interface
PublikacjaWith a digital audio workstation, in contrast to the traditional mouse-keyboard computer interface, hand gestures can be used to mix audio with eyes closed. Mixing with a visual representation of audio parameters during experiments led to broadening the panorama and a more intensive use of shelving equalizers. Listening tests proved that the use of hand gestures produces mixes that are aesthetically as good as those obtained using...

Hierarchical random models in road transport safety
PublikacjaIn this paper multilevel approach to the issue of road safety level on the road network of European regions, classified as NUTS 2 in statistical databases of the EU, has been presented. The risk calculated as the number of death casualties in road accidents per 100,000 inhabitants of a given region has Poisson distribution. Therefore, generalized Poisson model has been assumed in the modelling process. Multilevel stochastic analysis...
