An optimal form of the finite element mass matrix in the analysis of longitudinal vibrations of rods
PublikacjaIn this paper, an attempt is made to find the optimal form of the mass matrix of a rod finite element, which allows one to obtain the smallest errors in the longitudinal frequency determination of natural vibrations of any boundary conditions within the whole range of determined frequencies. It is assumed that the mass matrix can be treated as a linear combination of the consistent and diagonal matrices. Based on analytical considerations,...

Numerical analysis of size effect in RC beams scaled along height or length using elasto-plastic-damage model enhanced by non-local softening.
PublikacjaArtykuł omawia wyniki numeryczne dotyczące efektu skali w belkach żelbetowych uzyskane stosując metodę elementów skończonych. Dwuwymiarowe obliczenia wykonano dla belek żelbetowych podczas 4-punktowego zginania. Belki były skalowane wzdłuż wysokości lub długości. Beton został opisany prawem sprężysto-plastycznym z degradacją sztywności, rozszerzonym o nielokalność w osłabieniu. Wyniki numeryczne zostały porównane z wynikami doświadczalnymi....

Voice command recognition using hybrid genetic algorithm
PublikacjaAbstract: Speech recognition is a process of converting the acoustic signal into a set of words, whereas voice command recognition consists in the correct identification of voice commands, usually single words. Voice command recognition systems are widely used in the military, control systems, electronic devices, such as cellular phones, or by people with disabilities (e.g., for controlling a wheelchair or operating a computer...

Computationally-efficient design optimisation of antennas by accelerated gradient search with sensitivity and design change monitoring
PublikacjaElectromagnetic (EM) simulation tools are of primary importance in the design of contemporary antennas. The necessity of accurate performance evaluation of complex structures is a reason why the final tuning of antenna dimensions, aimed at improvement of electrical and field characteristics, needs to be based on EM analysis. Design automation is highly desirable and can be achieved by coupling EM solvers with numerical optimisation...

Design of dimensionally stable composites using efficient global optimization method
PublikacjaDimensionally stable material design is an important issue for space structures such as space laser communication systems, telescopes, and satellites. Suitably designed composite materials for this purpose can meet the functional and structural requirements. In this paper, it is aimed to design the dimensionally stable laminated composites by using efficient global optimization method. For this purpose, the composite plate optimization...

Power efficient thrust allocation algorithms in design of dynamically positioned ships
PublikacjaAssessment of power consumption on a Dynamically Positioned (DP) ship in the early design stage can assist crucial design choices. The study presents a comparison between two algorithms of optimal thrust allocation in a propulsion system for an over-actuated DP ship. Applied algorithms were Quadratic Programming (QP) and Non- dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGAII). Based on both approaches, tools were developed for ship...

Expedited Trust-Region-Based Design Closure of Antennas by Variable-Resolution EM Simulations
PublikacjaThe observed growth in the complexity of modern antenna topologies fostered a widespread employment of numerical optimization methods as the primary tools for final adjustment of the system parameters. This is mainly caused by insufficiency of traditional design closure approaches, largely based on parameter sweeping. Reliable evaluation of complex antenna structures requires full-wave electromagnetic (EM) analysis. Yet, EM-driven...

Modal analysis of railway current collectors using Autodesk Inventor
PublikacjaThe paper presents the results of modal analysis of railway current collector type 160EC. In the first place, the analysis was carried out analytically for a simplified two lumped mass pantograph model. Then numerical analysis was conducted in the Autodesk Inventor (AI) on the prepared multibody model using the AI modal analysis algorithm, which is based on the finite element method (FEM). Model elements which are most relevant...

Efficient Gradient-Based Algorithm with Numerical Derivatives for Expedited Optimization of Multi-Parameter Miniaturized Impedance Matching Transformers
PublikacjaFull-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulation tools have become ubiquitous in the design of microwave components. In some cases, e.g., miniaturized microstrip components, EM analysis is mandatory due to considera¬ble cross-coupling effects that cannot be accounted for otherwise (e.g., by means of equivalent circuits). These effects are particularly pronounced in the structures in¬volving slow-wave compact cells and their numerical...

Modeling and analysis of the effectiveness of the guard systemswith dynamic graphs
PublikacjaIn the following paper it will be presented a new model for analysis (in polynomial time) of the effectiveness of the guard systems. Therewill be presented its practical applications in problems such as searching for the weakest points of the system, planning guards' paths or cameras deployment, switching image from multiple cameras on several monitors, or interception of the intruder. This model is based on describing the guarded...

Reduced-Cost Design Optimization of High-Frequency Structures Using Adaptive Jacobian Updates
PublikacjaElectromagnetic (EM) analysis is the primary tool utilized in the design of high-frequency structures. In vast majority of cases, simpler models (e.g., equivalent networks or analytical ones) are either not available or lack accuracy: they can only be used to yield initial designs that need to be further tuned. Consequently, EM-driven adjustment of geometry and/or material parameters of microwave and antenna components is a necessary...
