Application of Biotests
PublikacjaIntensywny rozwój nowych technologii, postępująca urbanizacja i konsumpcyjny styl życia człowieka wywołują niekorzystne, a niekiedy nawet nieodwracalne zmiany w środowisku. Do powietrza, wód powierzchniowych i gleb dostaje się szeroka gama zanieczyszczeń pochodzących głównie ze źródeł antropogennych. Organizmy żywe funkcjonują w nierozerwalnej sieci powiązań między sobą i otaczającym je środowiskiem. Pomiędzy elementami sieci istnieje...

Zintegrowany system badań zanieczyszczenia środowiska oparty na wykorzystaniu analityki chemicznej i biotestów = Integrated system for assessment of environment quality based on chemical analysis and biotests/Integrated system for assessment of environment quality based on chemical analysis and biotests/

Biotest - nowe narzędzie do kompleksowej oceny stanu środowiska

Thermal ablation modeling via bioheat equation
PublikacjaWe consider Pennes’ bioheat equation and discuss an implicit numerical scheme which has better stability properties than other approaches. Our discussion concerns Carthesian geometry problems, however it carries over to spherical geometry models and more complicated shapes.

Thermal ablation modeling via the bioheat equation and its numerical treatment
PublikacjaThe phenomenon of thermal ablation is described by Pennes’ bioheat equation. This model is based on Newton’s law of cooling. Many approximate methods have been considered because of the importance of this issue. We propose an implicit numerical scheme which has better stability properties than other approaches.

Analysis of the causes and effects of cyclist-pedestrian accidents in biggest Polish cities
PublikacjaTraffic incidents between pedestrians and cyclists result in an incomparably smaller number of victims (injured and killed) than accidents between unprotected traffic participants and other vehicles. However, such incidents cannot be underestimated, as in most cases they take place on elements of infrastructure designed for pedestrians and cyclists, and thus negatively affect the sense of safety of users in places where they...

Modeling the global atmospheric transport and deposition of mercury to the Great Lakes
PublikacjaMercury contamination in the Great Lakes continues to have important public health and wildlife ecotoxicology impacts, and atmospheric deposition is a significant ongoing loading pathway. The objective of this study was to estimate the amount and source-attribution for atmospheric mercury deposition to each lake, information needed to prioritize amelioration efforts. A new global, Eulerian version of the HYSPLIT-Hg model was used...

A total of 55 birds (44 adults and 11 immature) were obtained. Total mercury (Hg) concentrations were measured in the liver, kidneys, breast muscles, heart, gullet (oesophagus), stomach, intestines, trachea, lungs and eyeballs. The total body mass (TBM) and empty...
