Safety-based approach in multifunctional building design
PublicationABSTRACT: The modern trend in design of the public buildings is to create multifunctional environments in one building, hosting a variety of functions. Multifunctional buildings entertain large number of visitors. The complexity and vulnerability of this type of public space are the main reasons to use within their design process the performance based approach including the recognition of hazards. Safety and reliability approach...

Active management of equipment cooling in hoteling data centers
PublicationHoteling data centers are designated for housing computing and storage units of many, usually small customers, as opposed to traditional data centers supporting own computing and storage resources of a bigger company. One of the services to be provided to consumer’s equipment is cooling. Cooling in data centers is prevalently achieved by circulating air in computer room. Efficient cooling requires delivering cold air from central...

Split-Beam Echosounder Data from Puck Bay
PublicationThe acoustic data was collected in 2018–2019 in the Bay of Puck in the seasons: autumn, winter, spring. The data was collected during the day and night using three split-beam echosounders with frequencies of 38 kHz, 120 kHz and 333 kHz at a designated study area not far from the city of Hel, while the ship was sailing. To ensure data quality, the echosounders were calibrated and passive noise was measured.

Compressive Sensing Approach to Harmonics Detection in the Ship Electrical Network
PublicationThe contribution of this paper is to show the opportunities for using the compressive sensing (CS) technique for detecting harmonics in a frequency sparse signal. The signal in a ship’s electrical network, polluted by harmonic distortions, can be modeled as a superposition of a small number of sinusoids and the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) basis forms its sparse domain. According to the theory of CS, a signal may be reconstructed...

Variable Data Structures and Customized Deep Learning Surrogates for Computationally Efficient and Reliable Characterization of Buried Objects
PublicationIn this study, in order to characterize the buried object via deep-learning-based surrogate modeling approach, 3-D full-wave electromagnetic simulations of a GPR model has been used. The task is to predict simultaneously and independent of each characteristic parameters of a buried object of several radii at different positions (depth and lateral position) in various dispersive subsurface media. This study has analyzed variable...

The System of the Supervision and the Visualization of Multimedia Data for BG
PublicationMonitoring of country maritime border is an important task of the Border Guard. This task can be facilitated with the use of the technology enabling gathering information from distributed sources and its supervision and visualization. The system presented in the paper is an extension and enhancement of the previously developed distributed system map data exchange system. The added functionalities allow supplementation of map data...

Analysis of the Suitability of Selected Data Tranmission Systems in RSMAD
PublicationThis paper analyses the suitability of the selected radio communication systems currently used for data transmission, or usable in the future, in Radio System for Monitoring and Acquisition of Data from Traffic Enforcement Cameras (in short RSMAD). The paper also presents the advantages and disadvantages of each systems, paying particular attention to features that directly affect the suitability of the solution in the RSMAD system....

Methodology for Processing of 3D Multibeam Sonar Big Data for Comparative Navigation
PublicationAutonomous navigation is an important task for unmanned vehicles operating both on the surface and underwater. A sophisticated solution for autonomous non-global navigational satellite system navigation is comparative (terrain reference) navigation. We present a method for fast processing of 3D multibeam sonar data to make depth area comparable with depth areas from bathymetric electronic navigational charts as source maps during...

Processing of Marine Satellite Data in WEB-BASED GIS
PublicationGIS systems are important modern word. They allow to quickly analyse and corelate various data bound to their geographical context. The paper describes Web-base GIS with ability to integrate and analyse data from many sources such as: satellite imagery, threat simulation models, marine vessels Automatic Identification System, raster and vector topographic charts. Some details of system architecture and implementation are presented...

Choosing Exploration Process Path in Data Mining Processes for Complex Internet Objects
PublicationWe present an experimental case study of a novel and original framework for classifying aggregate objects, i.e. objects that consist of other objects. The features of the aggregated objects are converted into the features of aggregate ones, by use of aggregate functions. The choice of the functions, along with the specific method of classification can be automated by choosing of one of several process paths, and different paths...

How ethics combine with big data: a bibliometric analysis
PublicationThe term Big Data is becoming increasingly widespread throughout the world, and its use is no longer limited to the IT industry, quantitative scientific research, and entrepreneurship, but entered as well everyday media and conversations. The prevalence of Big Data is simply a result of its usefulness in searching, downloading, collecting and processing massive datasets. It is therefore not surprising that the number of scientific...

Multivariate analysis of impedance data obtained for coating systems of varying thickness applied on steel
PublicationElectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has proven to be a valuable test method for the electrochemical characterization of protective coatings on metals. The common way of analysis in impedance spectroscopy is to model the impedance spectrum by means of an equivalent circuit and to extract the quantity of interest using optimization techniques. A model, corresponding to the behavior of the sample under testing, is important...

The Importance of Demand and Environment for Defining and Establishing the Role of Data Stewards
PublicationData stewardship is now a central part of FAIR research data management. Although various types of positions called data stewards have been created at academic institutions over the last years, no demand-oriented, formal model of data stewardship and the associated roles exist so far. This workshop report presents the outcomes of the panel discussion “The Importance of Demand and Environment for Defining Data Stewardship” held...

Shoreline Extraction Based on LiDAR Data Obtained Using an USV
PublicationThis article explores the use of Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) derived point clouds to extract the shoreline of the Lake Kłodno (Poland), based on their geometry properties. The data collection was performed using the Velodyne VLP‐16 laser scanner, which was mounted on the HydroDron Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV). A modified version of the shoreline extraction method proposed by Xu et al. was employed, comprising of the following...
