Positive Risk of Creativity in Software Projects: an Expected Result, a Threat or an Opportunity?
PublicationPositive risk of creativity appears when there is an excess of creativity. This paper aims at exploring the concept of positive risk of creativity in software projects. It presents a taxonomy of positive risks as well as case studies of positive risks in diploma software projects. It also attempts to answer the question whether positive risks should be treated as expected results of applying creativity process, or they cause additional...

Adapting new tools of urban freight management based on Gdynia’s dedicated delivery bays example – an analysis of the process
PublicationThe article presents an analysis of a process which ultimately helped Gdynia to designate pilot delivery sites in its downtown area using international experience. A verification was conducted of policy transfer theory and its practical implementation based on an URBACT Freight Tails project. While the choice of the solution was based on critical analysis of existing practical examples, it needed to be adapted to the local conditions...

Open Data Capability Architecture - An Interpretive Structural Modeling Approach
PublicationDespite of increasing availability of open data as a vital organizational resource, large numbers of startups and organizations fail when it comes to utilizing open data effectively. This shortcoming is attributable to the poor understanding of what types of capabilities are required to successfully conduct data related activities. At the same time, research on open data capabilities and how they relate to one another remains sparse....

Newton’s Method for the McKendrick-von Foerster Equation
PublicationIn the paper we study an age-structured model which describes the dynamics of one population with growth, reproduction and mortality rates. We apply Newton’smethod to the McKendrick-von Foerster equation in the semigroup setting. We prove its first- and second-order convergence.

Thermal ablation modeling via bioheat equation
PublicationWe consider Pennes’ bioheat equation and discuss an implicit numerical scheme which has better stability properties than other approaches. Our discussion concerns Carthesian geometry problems, however it carries over to spherical geometry models and more complicated shapes.

A comprehensive approach to double inverted pendulum modelling
PublicationThe problem of mathematical modelling and indication of properties of a DIP has been investigated in this paper. The aim of this work is to aggregate the knowledge on a DIP modelling using the Euler-Lagrange formalism in the presence of external forces and friction. To indicate the main properties important for simulation, model parameters identification and control system synthesis, analytical and numerical tools have been used....

GROWTH AND STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN TRANSITION COUNTRIES: THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG?
PublicationThe objective of this study is to test empirically the relationship between structural changes (changes in gross value added and employment) and economic growth. We used a panel Granger-causality analysis based on annual data for eight transition countries, covering the period 1995–2011. The main finding is that the causality relations analysed are heterogeneous processes and are identified more often...

Discrete Modelling of Micro-structural Phenomena in Granular Shear Zones
PublicationThe micro-structure evolution in shear zones in cohesionless sand for quasi-static problems was analyzed with a discrete element method (DEM). The passive sand failure for a very rought retaining wall undergoing horizontal translation towards the sand backfill was discussed. To simulate the behaviour of sand, the spherical discrete element model was used with elements in the form of rigid spheres with contacts moments.

Non-linear viscoelastic modelling of earthquake-induced structural pounding
PublicationCelem artykułu jest analiza nieliniowego lepko-sprężystego modelu siły zderzenia, który ma zastosowanie do symulacji zderzeń pomiędzy konstrukcjami budowlanymi podczas trzęsień ziemi. Efektywność modelu sprawdzono poprzez porównanie wyników symulacji numerycznych z wynikami eksperymentalnymi. Wyniki pracy pokazują, iż w stosunku do innych modeli zderzeń, nieliniowy model lepko-sprężysty umożliwia najdokładniejszą symulację siły...

Sustainability reporting in the airline industry: Current literature and future research avenues
PublicationSustainability reporting (SR) allows organisations to communicate their non-financial impacts to stakeholders. It has also become a widespread business practice in aviation, a transport sector that contributes significantly to global warming. Academia has begun to examine SR in the context of airlines surprisingly late, and no comprehensive reviews of its respective developments have been made so far. Consequently, a systematic...

Balance error generated by numerical diffusion in the solution of Muskingum equation
PublicationIn the paper the conservative properties of the lumped hydrological models with variable parameters are discussed. It is shown that in the case of the non-linear Muskingum equation the mass balance is not satisfied. The study indicates that the mass balance errors are caused by the improper form of equation and by the numerical diffusion which is generated in the solution. It has been shown that the classical way of derivation...

Designing Control and Protection Systems with Regard to Integrated Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Aspects
PublicationThis article addresses current problems of risk analysis and probabilistic modelling for functional safety management in the life cycle of safety-related systems. Two main stages in the lifecycle of these systems are distinguished, namely the design and operation. The risk analysis and probabilistic modelling differ in these stages in view of available knowledge and data. Due to the complexity and uncertainty involved, both qualitative...

The balanced scorecard method applying in small and medium enterprise management

Multi-Agent Signal Filtering for Electrical Energy Demand Management
PublicationConsumers participating in electrical energy Demand Response (DR) programs may be exposed to energy-use related decisions at instants of time which are generally hard to predict. This is especially cumbersome to residential consumers who are less capable of investing in special equipment, or devoting significant time to analyze information and take decisions. To ease residential consumer participation, a multi-agent system proposed...
