Fabrication and photoactivity of organic-inorganic systems based on titania nanotubes and PEDOT containing redox centres formed by different Prussian Blue analogues
PublicationHerein, the heterojunction composed of an inorganic substrate: ordered hydrogenated titania nanotubes (H-TiO2NTs) and a deposited organic film: poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is reported. The conducting polymer is modified with different transition metal haxacyanoferrates (Mehcf), wherein as metal: copper, iron, cobalt and nickel are introduced. The presence of various metal centres provides characteristic redox activity...

Heat capacities and thermodynamic properties of antimony substituted lanthanum orthoniobates
PublicationThe results of heat capacity measurements for the lanthanum orthoniobate substituted with 10, 20 and 30 mol% of antimony (LaNb0.9Sb0.1O4, LaNb0.8Sb0.2O4 and LaNb0.7Sb0.3O4) are presented and discussed. Temperature dependence of low temperature heat capacity was analyzed within the Debye and Einstein models. The Debye temperature decreased, whereas the Einstein temperature increased with antimony content. The decrease of the Debye...

Does the low optical band gap of yellow Bi3YO6 guarantee the photocatalytical activity under visible light illumination?
PublicationBi3YO6, which is known as an ionic conductor, was tested here as an electrode and photoanode in contact with aqueous electrolytes. Bi3YO6 was deposited onto the Pt substrate and the such prepared electrode was polarized in various aqueous electrolytes. The optical energy band gap of the material equal to 1.89 eV was determined using the Kubelka-Munk function resulting from the UV-Vis spectrum (allowed indirect transition) and also...

The analytical design method of railway route’s main directions intersection area
PublicationThe paper presents a design method related to railway track sections situated in a bend. In the method advantage is taken of an analytical form of description by using appropriate mathematical formulae. This may becomeparticularly usefulwhen the investigations are based on the data obtained from mobile satellite measurements. In the paper attention is concentrated on an universal approach creating an opportunity to diversify the...

Methodology for assessing the lighting of pedestrian crossings based on light intensity parameters
PublicationOne of the possible preventive measures that could improve safety at crossings is to assess the state of illumination of the lighting installation located in the transition area for pedestrians. The City of Warsaw has undertaken to comprehensively assess the pedestrian crossings to determine the level of road safety and the condition of lighting. The lighting conditions related to pedestrian crossings without traffic lights in...

Structure and thermoelectric properties of nickel-doped copper selenide synthesised in a hydrogen atmosphere
PublicationNickel-doped copper selenide—Cu2-xNixSe (x = 0; 0.01; 0.02; 0.03)—materials with high thermoelectric properties were synthesised through reduction of reagents in hydrogen. The impact of the nickel content on both the microstructure and thermoelectric properties was examined. The nickel-doped samples’ microstructure differed significantly from pristine copper selenide. Besides Cu2Se, copper precipitations were present in the materials....

Superconductivity in the superhard boride WB4.2
PublicationWe show that the superhard boride WB4.2 is a superconductor with a Tc of 2.05(5) K. Temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and specific heat measurements were used to characterize the superconducting transition. The Sommerfeld constant γ for WB4.2 is 2.07(3) mJ mol−1 K−2 and the ΔC/γTc=1.56, which is somewhat higher than what is expected for weakly coupled Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer type superconductors....

Stabilization of the pyrochlore phase of Mn2Sb2O7 by double substitution
PublicationPolycrystalline samples of (Ce4+Mn2+3)(Ga3+Sb5+3)O14 were synthesized by a high-temperature solid-state reaction. In contrast with the parent Mn2Sb2O7 compound that adopts a rhombohedral or monoclinic structure at T > 600 °C, the pyrochlore structure of CeMn3GaSb3O14 is retained up to at least T = 1070°C. High-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements show no sign of a superstructure or distortion from cubic symmetry...

Broadband Compact Single-Layer Magic-T Junction with Separation of DC Signals between All Ports
PublicationA novel structure for a four-port microstrip magic-T junction is presented. The device is composed of microstrip and slotline circuits etched onto two sides of a dielectric substrate. The device is extremely compact and occupies an area more than three times smaller than similar structures recently reported in the literature. The novelty of the device lies in the use of microstrip/slotline transitions for both input ports: summation...
