The convergence of gender wage differences - myth or fact - multi country multi sector analysis
PublicationThe Becker’s theory of discrimination predicts that in the long run the gender wage differences should disappear. In our empirical analysis we verify the testable implications of this mode considering the hypothesis of gender wage gap convergence. The study takes into account 31 sectors in 13 European countries for the period between 1970 and 2005. We distinguish between wages paid to different groups of workers classified according...

Old-timer Vehicle - Braking Efficiency Measurement at Vehicle Inspection Stations and Roadworthiness Validity Certificate.
PublicationObtaining the Roadworthiness Validity Certificate for an old-timer vehicle involves an appropriate test performance, namely, "Old-timer Vehicle Technical Specification Compliance Test". It seems obvious that this kind of test should include a considerable checklist, however, the current legal regulations connected with this test are not specific enough. One of the certificates issued on this test results is "Old-timer Vehicle Technical...

On the size of identifying codes in triangle-free graphs
PublicationIn an undirected graph G, a subset C⊆V(G) such that C is a dominating set of G, and each vertex in V(G) is dominated by a distinct subset of vertices from C, is called an identifying code of G. The concept of identifying codes was introduced by Karpovsky, Chakrabarty and Levitin in 1998. For a given identifiable graph G, let gammaID(G) be the minimum cardinality of an identifying code in G. In this paper, we show that for any connected...

Hydrodynamic Model of the New Waterway through the Vistula Spit
PublicationThe decision to build a new waterway (strait) in the Polish part of the Vistula Spit was made in 2017. The new connection between the Gulf of Gdańsk and the Vistula Lagoon is planned as an artificial navigable channel with a lock and a small port. During storm surges and wind tides in the gulf or in the lagoon, sluicing will be re-quired for vessels to tackle the Vistula Spit. This procedure does not require significant water flow...

Building a Nest by an Automaton
PublicationA robot modeled as a deterministic finite automaton has to build a structure from material available to it. The robot navigates in the infinite oriented grid $Z x Z$. Some cells of the grid are full (contain a brick) and others are empty. The subgraph of the grid induced by full cells, called the {\em field}, is initially connected. The (Manhattan) distance between the farthest cells of the field is called its {\em span}. The robot...

Systemy Smart Cities - studium przypadku
PublicationThe paper presents the architecture of an enterprise service bus used in the construction of information systems processing large amounts of data for decision-making needs at the City Hall in Gdańsk. The key concept of processes of bus development involves installation of developing environment, database connection, flow mechanisms and data presentation. The issue was supported by models such as KPI (Key Processes Identifier) and...

A space-efficient algorithm for computing the minimum cycle mean in a directed graph
PublicationAn algorithm is introduced for computing the minimum cycle mean in a strongly connected directed graph with n vertices and m arcs that requires O(n) working space. This is a considerable improvement for sparse graphs in comparison to the classical algorithms that require O(n^2) working space. The time complexity of the algorithm is still O(nm). An implementation in C++ is made publicly available at http://www.pawelpilarczyk.com/cymealg/.

KOMPUTER W LABORATORIUM VS LABORATORIUM W KOMPUTERZE
PublicationAbstract. In March 2020, all of the sudden, university teachers have been made to run all the classes remotely. But, how to deal with lab classes for future engineers? Different aspects of teaching labs on Moodle, that should be taken in consideration, are not only connected with the content of the class, but also with transferring the knowledge and materials to the students in a way that would avoid distractions and help students...

SYNTHESIS OF PHOSPHORUS TACRINE ANALOGUES AS A NEW POTENTIAL ANTI-ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AGENTS
PublicationA series of novel phosphorus tacrine derivatives was obtained in three steps, including synthesis of 9-chlorotacrine, connection of 9-chlorotacrine with hexamethylenediamine, 1,8-diaminooctane and 1,12-diaminododecane linkers and reaction of obtained tacrine diamine analogues with corresponding acid ester to give nine tacrine organophosphorus compounds. All of the obtained final structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR,...

Problems of Selecting Protection for Shunt Reactors Working in Extra-High Voltage Grids
PublicationThis paper presents difficulties encountered when designing protection devices for shunt reactors connected directly to extra-high voltage grids. Using the example of the 400 kV Ełk Bis substation, it has been demonstrated that protection of a shunt reactor based on equipment using measurements of electrical signals from voltage and current transformers has its limitations and, in some cases, may be insufficient.

Partycypacja społeczeństwa informacyjnego w kształtowaniu przestrzeni współczesnego miasta/ Participation of the information society in the modern city creation
PublicationNiesłabnąca popularność narzędzi służących do kreowania map świadczy o zainteresowaniu społeczeństwa informacyjnego przestrzenią współczesnego miasta i zmianami w niej zachodzącymi.

The issue of uncertainty of visual measurement techniques for long distance measurements based on the example of applying electric traction elements in diagnostics and monitoring
PublicationRail transport is the most economical and energy-effective in the field of land transport, in particular electrified. In order to ensure efficient and reliable operation of electrified rail transport, the issues of monitoring and diagnostics of the traction infrastructure and vehicles are extremely important. The most critical point in the transmission of electric energy to the vehicle is the sliding contact of the current collector...

Model of Volunteer Based Systems.
PublicationThere are two main approaches to processing tasks requiring high amounts of computational power. One approach is using clusters of mostly identical hardware, placed in dedicated locations. The other approach is outsourcing computing resources from large numbers of volunteers connected to the Internet. This chapter attempts to formulate a mathematical model of the volunteer based approach to distributed computations and apply it...

Spatial Aspects of Tram and Trolleybus Supply System
PublicationNowadays the issue of electric energy saving in public transport is becoming a key area of interest which is connected both with a growth in environmental awareness of the society and an increase in the prices of fuel and electricity. It can be achieved by reducing of the transmission losses in supply system or by the improving of the usage of the regenerative breaking. The spatial differentiation of the energy supply system of...
