Container port expansion towards the sea in the context of maritime spatial planning
PublicationThe growth of ships causes a significant increase in demand for new port surfaces and demands for the depths of water bodies in the ports. Due to technological changes in the transshipment and development pressure ports lacks space and they move towards the sea with their activities. The paper discusses the reasons for the phenomenon of expansion of ports towards the sea and its effects on maritime spatial planning.

The speciation of organotin compounds in sediment and water samples from the port of Gdynia
PublicationOrganotin compounds (OTC) are toxic towards all living organisms. The application of organitin-based antifouling systems is becoming the main source of OTC in the ocean. Harbor sediments and water contain large deposits of organotin compounds due to application of antifouling systems in the shipping industry. OTC contamination presents a potential risk to the marine environment. Sediment and water samples were collected in 2009...

Various cases of preservation and adaptive reuse Heritage Buildings in the Port of Gdynia
PublicationThe port of Gdynia contains a diverse range of heritage assets, starting with its spatial layout which is an urban concept designed in the first half of the 1920s. It is important to point out, this historically-shaped harbor space is preserved in its general idea and still functioning in port activities. Another significant element is the structural, technological solution which was the basis for constructing the entire port area...

The Use of Gravimetric Measurements to Determine the Orthometric Height of the Benchmark in the Port of Gdynia
PublicationThis paper contains a description of the technology used to make gravimetric measurements of the height of a reference point located in the Port of Gdynia, Poland. Measurements were made using a CG-5 gravimeter manufactured by LaCoste & Romberg Scintrex Inc., and determinations of position used a Leica Viva GS15 receiver integrated with a network of HxGN SmartNet GNSS reference stations. The measuring methodology required gravimeter...

The effect of fishing basin construction on the behaviour of a footbrdge over the port channel
PublicationThe paper analyses possible causes of failure of the rotating footbridge over the Ustka port channel. In July, 2015, strange behaviour of this object was observed in the form of excessive vibrations of bridge platform suspension rods, with the accompanying acoustic effects. A preliminary geotechnical analysis has revealed that this destructive effect was caused by the nearby construction works, namely construction of a fishing...

Short Term Monitor of Photodegradation Processes in Ranitidine Hydrochloride Observed by FTIR and ATR FTIR
PublicationThe effects of degradation of ranitidine hydrochloride exposed to UVB radiation (l = 310 nm) and oxygen in a weathering chamber were studied by Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR). ATR-FTIR profile indicated that the degradation was spatially heterogeneous. Significant amounts of photoproducts were detected only in a directly...

Studies on applicability of new solid-phase microextraction and determination of short - chain monocarboxylic acids
PublicationA convenient approach to monitor the short-chain monocaroboksylic acids (SCAMs) in different samples is gas chromatography (GC) preceded by sample preparation based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The fiber with polar coatings were used to extract the SCAMs from headspace of liquid and solid samples. Recently polimeric ionic liquid (PIL) fiber coatings have been proposed to extract volatile organic compounds, minly polar...

Application of the short time Fourier transformation to the continuous frequency method of measurement of electrode impedance
PublicationPrzedstawiona została nowa metoda pomiaru impedancji elektrodowej. Wykorzystuje ona jako pobudzenie niestacjonarny sygnał napięciowy, którego częstotliwość jest liniową funkcją czasu. Zastosowanie transformacji STFT do analizy napięciowego sygnału pobudzenia i odpowiedzi prądowej umożliwia wyznaczenie widma impedancyjnego. Dokładność otrzymywanych wartości impedancji uwarunkowana jest wielkością okna i zastosowanej funkcji analizującej.

Using Long-Short term Memory networks with Genetic Algorithm to predict engine condition
PublicationPredictive maintenance (PdM) is a type of approach for maintenance processes, allowing maintenance actions to be managed depending on the machine's current condition. Maintenance is therefore carried out before failures occur. The approach doesn’t only help avoid abrupt failures but also helps lower maintenance cost and provides possibilities to manufacturers to manage maintenance budgets in a more efficient way. A new deep neural...

Analytical procedures for short chain chlorinated paraffins determination - How to make them greener?
PublicationThe aim of the following paper was to gather current scientific information about the analytical protocols dedicated to measuring the content level of short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) in various types of environmental samples. Moreover, the data about the basic validation parameters of applied procedures for SCCPs determination are listed. The main issue which is highlighted in the paper is the possibility of the application...

Modifiers for Medical Grade Polymeric Systems used in FDM 3D Printing - Short Review
PublicationFDM 3D printing could find an application in the wide range of biomedical applications. Unfortunately, the quantity of polymeric biomaterials suitable to processing into filaments is limited. The most frequently used biomaterials for medical constructs such as bone grafts, soft tissue scaffolds or another DDS include PCL, PLA, PVA, HPC, EVA copolymer, EC and TPUs. Various modifiers such as TCP, HA, TEC, MMC could be applicated...

Preparation, morphology and properties of natural rubber composites filled with untreated short jute fibres
PublicationGreen composites were obtained by incorporation of short jute fibres in natural rubber matrix using a laboratory two-roll mill. The influence of untreated fibre content (1, 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 phr) on the mechanical properties, dynamic mechanical properties, swelling properties was examined. The behaviour of prepared green composites under cyclic compression was also investigated. Fibre dispersion in rubber matrix was studied by...

An Intelligent Approach to Short-Term Wind Power Prediction Using Deep Neural Networks
PublicationIn this paper, an intelligent approach to the Short-Term Wind Power Prediction (STWPP) problem is considered, with the use of various types of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs). The impact of the prediction time horizon length on accuracy, and the influence of temperature on prediction effectiveness have been analyzed. Three types of DNNs have been implemented and tested, including: CNN (Convolutional Neural Networks), GRU (Gated Recurrent...

How the Depths of the Danish Straits Shape Gdańsk's Port and City Spatial Development
PublicationThe depths of the Danish Straits limit the drafts of ships entering the Baltic Sea. The largest ships calling the Baltic in a laden condition are called Baltimax. The article presents how the dredging works carried out in the Danish Straits in the 1970s enabled the development of the Port of Gdańsk and consequently also influenced the city, being a residential base for employees of the new port and shipyards. The analysed case...

The Application of a Mobile Unmanned Device for Monitoring Water and Sediment Pollution in the Port of Gdynia
PublicationPollution in the Port of Gdynia can encompass various types of substances and contaminants that affect the quality of water and sediment in this region. Ships entering and leaving the port can release pollutants such as oil, fuel, waste, and chemicals into the water. Controlling and monitoring these pollutants is a crucial part of environmental stewardship. In recent years, uncrewed units have been increasingly in use for in situ...
