Improvement of Imperfect String Matching Based on Asymetric n-Grams
PublicationTypical approaches to string comparing treats them as either different or identical without taking into account the possibility of misspelling of the word. In this article we present an approach we used for improvement of imperfect string matching that allows one to reconstruct potential string distortions. The proposed method increases the quality of imperfect string matching, allowing the lookup of misspelled words without significant...

SiMiSnoRNA: Collection of siRNA, miRNA, and snoRNA database for RNA Interference
PublicationObjective:The discovery of sequence specific gene silencing which occurs due to the presence of double-stranded RNAs has considerable impact on biology, revealing an unknown level of regulation of gene expression. This process is known as RNA interference (RNAi) or RNA silencing in which RNA molecules inhibit gene expression, typically by causing the destruction of specific mRNA molecule. Two types of small RNA molecules - small...

The Mediation Function of Job Satisfaction's between Organizational Culture Dimensions and Knowledge Sharing
PublicationIt is commonly acknowledged that organizational culture is a valuable element of intellectual capital and as a hidden source of competitive advantage can considerably affect the achieving of strategic business goals. The axiological dimension of organizational culture is mostly identified with a set of shared assumptions and values, while work practices mainly define its behavioral dimension. Both these dimensions influence, among...

Gender as a Moderator of the Double Bias of Mistakes – Knowledge Culture and Knowledge Sharing Effects
PublicationThere is no learning without mistakes. The essence of the double bias of mistakes is the contradiction between an often-declared positive attitude towards learning from mistakes, and negative experiences when mistakes occur. Financial and personal consequences, shame, and blame force desperate employees to hide their mistakes. These adverse outcomes are doubled in organizations by the common belief that managers never make mistakes,...

Tacit Knowledge Sharing and Creativity. How to Derive Innovation from Project Teams?
PublicationModern companies are increasingly likely to work in a project management environment, which ensures their success in the implementation of innovation. The aim of the study is to prove that tacit knowledge is a mediator for creativity and project performance. Creativity as one of the crucial sources of innovation is stimulated by tacit knowledge. Bearing this fact in mind, the authors studied relations between tacit knowledge, creativity...

Analysis of sloping brace stiffness influence on stability and load bearing capacity of a truss
PublicationThe paper is focused on the numerical study of stability and load bearing capacity of a truss with side elastic braces. The structure is made in reality. The rotational and sliding brace stiffnesses were taken into account. Linear buckling analysis and non-linear static analysis with geometric and material nonlinearity were performed for the beam and shell model of the truss with respect to the angle of sloping braces. As a result...

Polyurethane based hybrid ciprofloxacin-releasing wound dressings designed for skin engineering purpose
PublicationPurpose Even in the 21st century, chronic wounds still pose a major challenge due to potentially inappropriate treatment options, so the latest wound dressings are hybrid systems that enable clinical management, such as a hybrid of hydrogels, antibiotics and polymers. These wound dressings are mainly used for chronic and complex wounds, which can easily be infected by bacteria. Materials and methods Six Composite Porous Matrices...

Application of micellar electrokinetic chromatography for detection of silver nanoparticles released from wound dressing
PublicationThe recent emergence of nanotechnology has provided a new therapeutic modality in case of silver nanoparticles. Dressings containing silver form the basis for the treatment of burns and wounds, either acute or chronic ones. The aim of the study was to examine silver release from the different wound dressings: commercially available (Atrauman Ag, Aqua- cel Ag) and experimental (FKDP-AgNPs) using MEKC. In order to characterize prepared keratin...

Effects of metallic silver particles on resonance energy transfer between fluorophores bound to DNA.
PublicationZbadano wpływ filmów wysepek metalicznego srebra na rezonansowe przekazywanie energii między fluoroforami związanymi z DNA. Donorem i akceptorem były odpowiednio 4´,6 diamidyno-2-fenylindon i jodek propydyny. Zmierzone dla tego układu czasy zaniku i widma fluorescencji pokazują, że sąsiedztwo cząstek srebra dramatycznie zwiększa promień Forstera, a tym samym i przekazywanie energii w znakowanym DNA.

THE EFFECT OF LOG SORTING STRATEGY ON THE FORECASTED LUMBER VALUE AFTER SAWING PINE WOOD
PublicationThe optimal transformation path for the resource is determined by the quality of a log combined with its dimension. The commercial value of derived products is also closely connected with the size and extent of containing wood deficiencies. The results of studies with three diverse strategies for log sorting are presented in the paper. Resource assessment by a worker without extensive experience in sorting logs, the certified grading...

Towards Knowledge Formalization and Sharing in a Cognitive Vision Platform for Hazard Control (CVP-HC)
PublicationHazards are present in all workplaces and can result in serious injuries, short and long-term illnesses, or death. In this context, management of safety is essential to ensure the occupational health of workers. Aiming to assist the safety manage-ment process, especially in industrial environments, a Cognitive Vision Platform for Hazard Control (CVP-HC) has been proposed. The CVP-HC is a scalable yet adaptable system capable of...

IS SMALLER BETTER? THE VALUATION OF SOCIAL IMPACTS OF DIFFERENTLY SIZED SPORTING EVENTS. THE CASE OF GDAŃSK
PublicationIntroduction. There is a discourse in the international literature regarding the impact of large sporting events on the place where they are held. In the last few years, particular emphasis has been laid on intangible effects, including social impacts that may occur not only in the case of mega sporting events but also in smaller sporting events. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to estimate the monetary value of intangible...

Tacit Knowledge Sharing and Personal Branding. How to Derive Innovation From Project Teams?
PublicationInnovation, relationships, cooperation, and knowledge are key factors which determine a competitive advantage in the networked economy. A network serves as a contemporary form of market process coordination. Network economy, according to the idea of prosumerism, is founded on collaboration of individual creators based on a network of values instead of hierarchical dependencies. Another feature of a network is that it imposes symmetry...

Tacit Knowledge Sharing and Value Creation in the Network Economy: Socially Driven Evolution of Business
PublicationKey factors which affect competitive advantage in the network economy are innovation, relationships, cooperation, and knowledge. Sharing knowledge is not easy. Companies find it problematic. Presented studies show that the essence of the value creation today is not in sharing explicit but rather tacit knowledge, which is a source of creativity and innovation. Delivering value through knowledge does not only require efficient Transactive...

Bound entanglement maximally violating Bell inequalities: quantum entanglement is not fully equivalent to cryptographic security

Variational principles for bound states of Schrödinger and Dirac equations allowing the use of discontinuous trial functions
PublicationWe present systematic constructions of variational principles for energies of bound states of the Schroedinger and Dirac equations. The principles allow the use of discontinuous trial functions. The method employed is based on a generalized Lagrange procedure. Relationships between our variational principles and those available in the literature are established.
