Cerclage cable augmentation does not increase stability of the fixation of intertrochanteric fractures. A biomechanical study
PublikacjaBackground: Intertrochanteric fractures with a posteromedial intermediate fragment are unstable because of the loss of medial support. Additional fixation with a cerclage is used in subtrochanteric fractures, but not in intertrochanteric fractures. The aim of this biomechanical study is to evaluate whether cerclage fixation improves stability of intertrochanteric fractures. Hypothesis: Our hypothesis is that the cerclage fixation...

Modelling of subarachnoid space width changes in apnoea resulting as a function of blood flow parameters
PublikacjaDuring apnoea, the pial artery is subjected to two opposite physiological processes: vasoconstriction due to elevated blood pressure and vasorelaxation driven by rising pH in the brain parenchyma. We hypothesized that the pial artery response to apnoea may vary, depending on which process dominate. Apnoea experiments were performed in a group of 19 healthy, non-smoking volunteers (9 men and 10 women). The following parameters...

Application of Fracture Mechanics for Energetic Effects Predictions While Wood Sawing
PublikacjaIn the classical approach, energetic effects (cutting forces and cutting power) of wood sawing process are generally calculated on the basis of the specific cutting resistance, which is in the case of wood cutting the function of more or less important factors. Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation
PublikacjaWe consider two-parameter bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation. Our main theorem shows that bifurcation occurs if and only if the linearization of our problem has nontrivial solutions. In fact our proof, based on the concept of the Brouwer degree, gives more, namely that from each bifurcation point there branches off a continuum of solutions.

The minimum number of rounds within which Builder can win, assuming both players play perfectly, is the \emph{on-line Ramsey number} $\tilde{r}(G,H)$. In...

Average Redundancy of the Shannon Code for Markov Sources
PublikacjaIt is known that for memoryless sources, the average and maximal redundancy of fixed–to–variable length codes, such as the Shannon and Huffman codes, exhibit two modes of behavior for long blocks. In this paper, we extend these findings, concerning the Shannon...
