A simplified energy dissipation based model of heat transfer for subcooled flow boiling
PublikacjaIn the paper a model is presented based on energetic considerations for subcooled flow boiling heat transfer. The model is the extension of authors own model developed earlier for saturated flow boiling and condensation. In the former version of the model we used the heat transfer coefficient for the liquid single-phase as a reference level, due to the lack of the appropriate model for heat transfer coefficient for the subcooled...

Performance/energy aware optimization of parallel applications on GPUs under power capping
PublikacjaIn the paper we present an approach and results from application of the modern power capping mechanism available for NVIDIA GPUs to the bench- marks such as NAS Parallel Benchmarks BT, SP and LU as well as cublasgemm- benchmark which are widely used for assessment of high performance computing systems’ performance. Specifically, depending on the benchmarks, various power cap configurations are best for desired trade-off of performance...

Gas Turbine Cycle with External Combustion Chamber for Prosumer and Distributed Energy Systems
PublikacjaThe use of various biofuels, usually of relatively small Lower Heating Value (LHV), affects the gas turbine efficiency. The present paper shows that applying the proposed air by-pass system of the combustor at the turbine exit causes tan increase of efficiency of the turbine cycle increased by a few points. This solution appears very promising also in combined gas/steam turbine power plants. The comparison of a turbine set operating...

Energy Neutrality Versus Carbon Footprint Minimization In Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants
PublikacjaThe study presents analysis of the carbon footprint (CF) in six medium and large-size municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) located across Poland. The novelty of the presented study is searching the relationship between level of energy neutrality and CF in the case studies. Although energy and CF go hand-in-hand to some degree but moving towards energy neutrality in WWTPs might also lead to an increase in the total CF of...

Energy neutrality versus carbon footprint minimization in municipal wastewater treatment plants
PublikacjaThis work aimed to compare the carbon footprint (CF) of six full-scale wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The CF was estimated in the range of 23–100 kg CO2e per population equivalent. In the total CF, the direct emissions held the highest share (62–74%) for the plants with energy recovery from biogas. In the plants depending entirely on the power grid, the indirect emissions due to energy consumption dominated the total CF (69–72%)....

Design analysis of ORC micro-turbines making use of thermal energy of oceans
PublikacjaThe article presents the results of the analysis of energy conversion cycles making use of thermal energy of oceans. The objects of analysis were two cases of closed Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants, which were: the cycle in which the vapour of the working medium was produced by warm oceanic water in the circum-equatorial zone, and the so-called “arctic” cycle in which this vapour was produced by non-frozen water in the circumpolar...

Phase change thermal energy storage – the experience of the materials preparation for the specific applications.
PublikacjaThermal energy storage and temperature stabilization is very important in many engineering applications. There are three kinds of thermal energy storage: sensible heat, latent heat and reversible chemical reaction heat. Phase change materials (PCM) absorb, store and release large amounts of energy in the form of latent heat, at constant temperature, called the transition temperature. Many innovative applications could be found...

Use of numerical methods in the analysis of traction energy systems—an overview of the practical examples
PublikacjaA characteristic feature of trolleybus transport is the random nature of traffic caused by congestion. It predestinates statistical and numerical methods for the analysis of trolleybus energy system. There are presented 3 methods of trolleybus traction system analysis: simulation of supply system based on Monte Carlo method, analysis of energy recovery potential based on statistical data analysis and benchmark of trolleybus supply...

Crystal structure and low-energy Einstein mode in ErV2Al20 intermetallic cage compound
PublikacjaSingle crystals of a new ternary aluminide ErV2Al20 were grown using a self-flux method. The crystal structure was determined by powder X-ray diffraction measurements and Rietveld refinement, and physical properties were studied by means of electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat measurements. These measurements reveal that ErV2Al20 is a Curie-Weiss paramagnet down to 1.95 K with an effective magnetic...

An Ultra-Low-Energy Analog Comparator for A/D Converters in CMOS Image Sensors
PublikacjaThis paper proposes a new solution of an ultra-low-energy analog comparator, dedicated to slope analog-to-digital converters (ADC), particularly suited for CMOS image sensors (CISs) featuring a large number of ADCs. For massively parallel imaging arrays, this number may be as high as tens-hundreds of thousands ADCs. As each ADC includes an analog comparator, the number of these comparators in CIS is always high. Detailed analysis...

A method to assess transverse vibration energy of ship propeller shaft for diagnostic purposes
PublikacjaThe article discusses a key problem of ship propulsion system vibration diagnostics, which concerns assessing this part of mechanical energy transmitted from the main engine to the ship propeller which is dissipated due to propeller shaft vibration. A simplified calculation model is proposed which allows the total energy of the generated torsional vibration to be assessed from the shaft deflection amplitude measured at the mind-span...

Annihilation rates of low-energy positron scattering from simple diatomic molecules
PublikacjaWe discuss the calculations of Zeff coefficients for a series of diatomic molecules over the range of energies below the positronium formation. During the development of a general code for polyatomic, nonlinear molecules colliding with positrons, it was discovered that the earlier one, employed only for diatomic molecules, had an error. The error is corrected and the corrected results are presented here. We also discuss a way of...

Super capacitor energy bank MEDCOM UCER-01 in Gdynia trolleybus system
PublikacjaSince 2001, trolleybus system in Gdynia has been involved in many activities related to the reduction of power consumption, both in terms of implementation and research and development. The installation of the supercapacity energy bank on substation Wielkopolska in 2014 year was one of them. It is the first such big stationary supercapacitor storage system installed in trolleybus supply system in the Middle - Eastern Europe. The...

Geometry optimization of steroid sulfatase inhibitors - the influence on the free binding energy with STS
PublikacjaIn the paper we review the application of two techniques (molecular mechanics and quantum mechanics) to study the influence of geometry optimization of the steroid sulfatase inhibitors on the values of descriptors coded their chemical structure and their free binding energy with the STS protein. We selected 22 STS-inhibitors and compared their structures optimized with MM+, PM7 and DFT B3LYP/6–31++G* approaches considering separately...

Optimization of the efficiency of braking energy recovery in rail transport by changing arrival time
PublikacjaThe article refers to the previous work of the authors, in which the model of traffic organization of cooperating trains including the optimization of the use of energy returned to the catenary was presented. In the presented article, the model was modified by changing the main control variable, which affects the efficient use of energy. Departure time was changed for the arrival time of the train to the stop or station. The optimization...

Interaction of 4-nitrothiophenol with low energy electrons: Implications for plasmon mediated reactions
PublikacjaThe reduction of 4-nitrothiophenol (NTP) to 4-4′-dimercaptoazobenzene (DMAB) on laser illuminated noble metal nanoparticles is one of the most widely studied plasmon mediated reactions. The reaction is most likely triggered by a transfer of low energy electrons from the nanoparticle to the adsorbed molecules. Besides the formation of DMAB, dissociative side reactions of NTP have also been observed. Here, we present a crossed electron-molecular...

Global minima of the ground and first excited doublet states of the trimer are found and Born-Oppenheimer potential energy surfaces of the Li atom interacting with the LiCs molecule were calculated for these states. The lithium atom is placed at various distances and bond angles from the lithium-caesium dimer. Three-body nonadditive forces...
