From fluid mechanics backgrounds to modern field theory
PublicationOur presentation keeps a historical line of reasoning, since we start from old concepts of fluid mechanics and finish on concepts of modern field theory. We want to show that some facts from the nature phenomena, which have firstly been discovered on the ground of fluid mechanics, were next incorporated into physics and later become the important pattern for whole mathematical physics. Especially, well-known continuum models, which...

Surface quality control of a thin SiN layer by optical measurements
PublicationFiber optic interferometers have a wide range of applications, including biological and chemical measurements. Nevertheless, in the case of a reflective interferometer setup, standard silver mirrors cannot be used in every measurement, due to their chemical activity. This work investigates the surface quality of a thin optical layer of silicon nitride (SiN), which can serve as an alternative material for silver mirrors. We present...

Product Graph Invariants with Applications in the Theory of Information
PublicationThere are a large number of graph invariants. In the paper, we consider some of them, e.g. the independence and chromatic numbers. It is well know that we cannot efficiently calculate these numbers for arbitrary graphs. In the paper we present relations between these invariants and concepts from the theory of information. Concepts such as source coding and transmission over a noisy channel with zero probability of error are modeled...

On the Buckling Response of Axially Pressurized Nanotubes Based on a Novel Nonlocal Beam Theory
PublicationIn the present study, the buckling analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) on the basis of a new refined beam theory is analyzed. The SWCNT is modeled as an elastic beam subjected to unidirectional compressive loads. To achieve this aim, the new proposed beam theory has only one unknown variable which leads to one equation similar to Euler beam theory and is also free from any shear correction factors. The equilibrium...

Spectroscopic Optical Coherence Tomography for Thin Layer and Foil Measurements
PublicationThe main goal of this research was to assess if it is possible to evaluate the thickness of thin layers (both thin films on the surface and thin layers below the surface of the tested object) and foils using optical coherence tomography (OCT) for thickness assessment under the resolution of the standard commercially available OCT measurement system. In the proposed solution, light backscattered from the evaluated thin layer has...

Mechanical exfoliation and layer number identification of single crystal monoclinic CrCl3
PublicationAfter the recent finding that CrI3, displays ferromagnetic order down to its monolayer, extensive studies have followed to pursue new two-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials. In this article, we report on the growth of single crystal CrCl3 in the layered monoclinic phase. The system after mechanical exfoliation exhibits stability in ambient air (the degradation occurs on a time scale at least four orders of magnitude longer than...

Influence of titanium layer on counter electrode on electrical parameters of DSSC
PublicationIn this paper the influence of the Ti layer thickness at counter-electrode on electrical parameters of DSSCs was examined. The transparent conductive oxide – less (TCO-less) counter electrodes (CE) with titanium layers and platinum as catalyst on Bk7 glass were prepared. Thin metallic films were deposited by means of magnetron sputtering (titanium) and Pulsed Laser Deposition (platinum). The counter electrode with Pt layer on Fluorine...

The Use of Direct Shear Test for Optimization of Interlayer Bonding Under a Poroelastic Layer
PublicationPoroelastic Road Surfaces (PERS) are characterised by porous structure with air void content of 20% or higher and stiffness almost 10 times lower than that of a standard asphalt course. Such properties enable noise reduction by up to 12 dB in comparison to SMA 11 mixture. However, the disadvantage of a poroelastic pavement is its low durability, which partially results from delamination from the lower layer. The paper aims to investigate...

Theory of valence-band and core-level photoemission from plutonium dioxide
PublicationThe correlated-band theory implemented as a combination of the local-density approximation with the dynamical mean-field theory is applied to PuO2. An insulating electronic structure, consistent with the experimental valence-band photoemission spectra, is obtained. The calculations yield a nonmagnetic ground state that is characterized by a noninteger filling of the plutonium 5f shell. The noninteger filling as well as the satellites...

Resonance in Rectangular Microstrip Structure Loaded with a Pseudochiral Medium Layer
PublicationA rectangular microstrip structure with multilayer substrate containing dielectric and pseudochiral medium layers is studied in this paper. The effect of Omega medium layer location in the substrate and its thickness on the complex resonant frequency of the rectangular microstrip structure is investigated.

Electromagnetic forced vibrations of composite nanoplates using nonlocal strain gradient theory
PublicationThis article is intended to analyze forced vibrations of a piezoelectric-piezomagnetic ceramic nanoplate by a new refined shear deformation plate theory in conjunction with higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory. As both stress nonlocality and strain gradient size-dependent effects are taken into account using the higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory, the governing equations of the composite nanoplate are formulated....

A general theory for anisotropic Kirchhoff–Love shells with in-plane bending of embedded fibers
PublicationThis work presents a generalized Kirchhoff–Love shell theory that can explicitly capture fiber-induced anisotropy not only in stretching and out-of-plane bending, but also in in-plane bending. This setup is particularly suitable for heterogeneous and fibrous materials such as textiles, biomaterials, composites and pantographic structures. The presented theory is a direct extension of classical Kirchhoff–Love shell theory to incorporate...

X-RAY DIFFRACTION STUDY OF BISMUTH LAYER-STRUCTURED MULTIFERROIC CERAMICS
PublicationGoal of the present research was to apply a solid state reaction route to fabricate bismuth layer-structured multiferroic ceramics described with the formula Bi5FeTi3O15 and reveal the influence of processing conditions on its crystal structure and phase composition. Simple oxide powders Bi2O3, TiO2 and Fe2O3 were used to fabricate Aurivillius-type bismuth layer-structured ferroelectrics. Pressureless sintering in ambient air was...

Patch size setup and performance/cost trade-offs in multi-objective EM-driven antenna optimization using sequential domain patching
PublicationPurpose This paper aims to assess control parameter setup and its effect on computational cost and performance of deterministic procedures for multi-objective design optimization of expensive simulation models of antenna structures. Design/methodology/approach A deterministic algorithm for cost-efficient multi-objective optimization of antenna structures has been assessed. The algorithm constructs a patch connecting extreme Pareto-optimal...

SDN testbed for validation of cross-layer data-centric security policies
PublicationSoftware-defined networks offer a promising framework for the implementation of cross-layer data-centric security policies in military systems. An important aspect of the design process for such advanced security solutions is the thorough experimental assessment and validation of proposed technical concepts prior to their deployment in operational military systems. In this paper, we describe an OpenFlow-based testbed, which was...

This research aimed to produce and characterize a porous layer grown on austenitic stainless steel 316L, obtained via the anodization process near the micro-arc oxidation, i.e., low voltage micro-arc oxidation (LVMAO). The discussed layer significantly influences the properties...

Analysis of magnetic field inside thin-layer ferromagnetic objects
PublicationResults of the numerical analysis of the magnetic field inside an infinitely long, thin-layer ferromagnetic pipe with and without a barrier were presented in this paper. Two wires with current symmetrically placed on two sides of the pipe are the sources of magnetic field. Numerical calculations for the quasi-steady state for chosen frequency band were carried out in the Flux 2D.
