Ship’s de-perming process using coils lying on seabed
PublikacjaA ship built from ferromagnetic steel disturbs the uniformity of the Earth’s magnetic field. Changes of ship’s signature are due to the magneto-mechanical interaction of the hull with the Earth’s magnetic field. The ship’s magnetic field can be detected by a magnetic naval mine. For this reason, the vessel has to be demagnetized. There are several methods of ship’s de-perming. The results of experimental and computer simulations...

Recycling of Industrial Waste as Soil Binding Additives—Effects on Soil Mechanical and Hydraulic Properties during Its Stabilisation before Road Construction
PublikacjaTo improve the in situ soil stabilization, different chemical additives are used (ion exchange compounds, additives based on H2SO4 or vinyl polymers, and organic additives using lignosul- fonates). One interesting alternative is the production of additives from various waste materials. The extensive testing of waste-based blends with soil was performed; the mechanical (unconfined compressive strength (UCS)) and hydraulic (capillary...

The influence of the UV irradiation on degradation of virgin rapeseed oils
PublikacjaThis paper presents research which is a continuation of the investigations described earlier. The aim of these studies was to determine the influence of UV irradiation on flavor and the oxidative stability of different rapeseed oils varieties. For the purpose of this study, oil samples underwent accelerated deterioration for 4.5 h under a UV light test. In the obtained sample, characteristic values (peroxide (PV, 1.23–1.62 meq...

Preparation of soil and sediment samples for the determination of organometallic compounds

Analysis of Excavation-induced Deformation with Different Soil Models
PublikacjaMonitorowany wykop budowlany w centrum Warszawy poddano symulacjom numerycznym z wykorzystaniem metody elementów skończonych. Wykop zrealizowany został w pre-konsolidowanych utworach spoistych z zastosowaniem ścian szczelinowych i metody stropowej.

Chapter 20. Biodegradability of synthetic and mineral base oils

Emulsifying properties of surfactants and biosurfactants in the context of soil remediation
We wszystkich próbkach stwierdzono niestabilności...

Modeling the application of steel slag in stabilizing expansive soil
PublikacjaThe objective of this study was to evaluate the suitability of steel slag as an additive to the engineering properties of weak clay soil. Different geotechnical laboratory tests were conducted on both stabilized and natural soils. Steel slag (SS) was added at a rate of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25% to the soil. Specific gravity, grain size analysis, Atterberg limit test, compaction test, free swell, California bearing ratio (CBR),...

LDFEM analysis of FDP auger installation in cohesive soil
PublikacjaThis paper deals with large deformation finite element (LDFE) preliminary modelling of Full Displacement Pile (FDP) installation in cohesive soil deposit located in Jazowa, Poland. The detailed FDP auger geometry is applied and the drilling process is modelled with full 3D Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) formulation. The total stress approach and elastic-perfectly plastic model with rate-dependent Mises plasticity is used. The...

Geotechnical characterization of soft soil deposits in Northern Poland
PublikacjaThis paper presents a geotechnical characterization of deltaic soft soil deposits in the Vistula Marshlands, northern Poland. It shows the limited applicability of organic soil classifications based on Cone Penetration Tests (CPTU) and Dilatometer Tests (DMT). None of the in-situ-based classifications correctly identifies peat. Analysis of the behaviour of contractive/dilative soil layers according to Robertson's updated classification...

Ecological and Health Effects of Lubricant Oils Emitted into the Environment
PublikacjaLubricating oils used in machines with an open cutting system, such as a saw or harvester, are applied in forest areas, gardening, in the household, and in urban greenery. During the operation of the device with an open cutting system, the lubricating oil is emitted into the environment. Therefore, the use of an oil base and refining additives of petroleum origin in the content of lubricants is associated with a negative impact...

Physicochemical aspects of the application of surfactants and biosurfactants in soil remediation
