Shape Optimisation of Kaplan Turbine Blades Using Genetic Algorithms
PublikacjaThis monograph is a comprehensive guide to a method of blade profile optimisation for Kaplan-type turbines. This method is based on modelling the interaction between rotor and stator blades. Additionally, the shape of the draft tube is investigated. Variable-fidelity shape optimization of dual-rotor wind turbines
PublikacjaPurpose Dual-rotor wind turbines (DRWTs) are a novel type of wind turbines that can capture more power than their single-rotor counterparts. Because their surrounding flow fields are complex, evaluating a DRWT design requires accurate predictive simulations, which incur high computational costs. Currently, there does not exist a design optimization framework for DRWTs. Since the design optimization of DRWTs requires numerous model...

Damage detection in plates based on Lamb wavefront shape reconstruction
PublikacjaMany of the current studies in the area of damage detection using elastic wave propagation are based on deploying sensor networks with a large number of piezoelectric transducers to detect small-size cracks. A major limitation of these studies is that cracks are usually larger and have different shapes in real cases. Moreover, using a large number of sensing nodes for damage detection is both costly and computationally intensive....

Shape and force control of cable structures with minimal actuators and actuation
PublikacjaShape adjustment and stress control can be considered as one of the effective parameters in prestressed cable structures since such structures are widely constructed nowadays due to their characteristics. The assembly errors and applied loads hugely affect the cables’ nodal positions and stress due to their delicacy. The former could disturb the shape, which affects the appearance and the function of the structure. In contrast,...

Optimum shape of turnout diverging track with segments of variable curvature
PublikacjaIn the paper an attempt has been made to focus on shaping the variable curvature in the diverging track of the railway turnout. Basing on some earlier studies, solutions provided with a circular arc in the mid-zone, and in the extreme regions with segments of non-linear curvature of equal length and zero curvature at the start and end of the turnout, have been assumed as models. The most advantageous type of curvature has been...

Two- and three-dimensional cases are considered. Furthermore, an exact pseudo solution is given and its uselessness is discussed. Two new solutions are introduced, namely an approximate solution due to form of the functional and solution by means of optimisation...
