Entropy Measures of heart rate variability for short ECG datasets in patients with congestive heart failure
PublicationWe investigated the usefulness of entropy measures calculated for short ECG series in distinguishing healthy subjects from patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). Four entropy measures were tested: Approximate Entropy (ApEn), Sample Entropy (SampEn), Fuzzy Entropy (Fuzzy En) and Permutation Entropy (PE), each computed for ECG series of 1000, 500, 250 and 100 RR intervals. We found that with a reduction of the data set length...

Entropy Measures in the Assessment of Heart Rate Variability in Patients with Cardiodepressive Vasovagal Syncope
PublicationSample entropy (SampEn) was reported to be useful in the assessment of the complexity of heart rate dynamics. Permutation entropy (PermEn) is a new measure based on the concept of order and was previously shown to be accurate for short, non-stationary datasets. The aim of the present study is to assess if SampEn and PermEn obtained from baseline recordings might differentiate patients with various outcomes of the head-up tilt test...

The relations connecting perturbations are analytically established. These perturbations specify acoustic and entropy modes in an arbitrary stratified gas affected by a constant...

APPLICATION OF ENTROPY-BASED METHODS TO DISTINGUISH HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS WITH NORMAL SINUS RHYTHM FROM PATIENTS WITH CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE
PublicationIn this paper, we examined whether entropy-based methods are able to differentiate healthy individuals from patients with congestive heart failure. To this aim, we applied two methods: Permutation Entropy and Block Entropy. Long-term ECG recordings (75 000 RR intervals) were analyzed. The results proved that both methods can distinguish those groups on condition that the parameters are appropriately chosen.

Magnetosonic Excitation of the Entropy Perturbations in a Plasma with Thermal Conduction Depending on Temperature
PublicationNonlinear excitation of the entropy perturbations by magnetosonic waves in a uniform and infinite plasma model is considered. The wave vector of slow or fast mode forms an arbitrary angle (0 B B ) with the equilibrium straight magnetic field, and all perturbations are functions of the time and longitudinal coordinate. Thermal conduction is the only factor which destroys isentropicity of wave perturbations and causes the nonlinear...

Computing algebraic transfer entropy and coupling directions via transcripts
PublicationMost random processes studied in nonlinear time series analysis take values on sets endowed with a group structure, e.g., the real and rational numbers, and the integers. This fact allows to associate with each pair of group elements a third element, called their transcript, which is defined as the product of the second element in the pair times the first one. The transfer entropy of two such processes is called algebraic transfer...

The second method considers distributions of ordinal patterns of length three, whereby patterns with repeated values are counted as different patterns. Both methods provide...

Problem of proper decomposition and initialization of acoustic and entropy modes in a gas affected by the mass force
PublicationThe relations connecting perturbations specific for acoustic and entropy modes in an accelerated fluid or in a fluid affected by constant mass force, are derived. They allow to decompose the total vector of perturbations and the overall energy into acoustic and non-acoustic parts uniquely at any instant. In order to do this, three quantities are required, for example total perturbations in entropy, pressure and velocity. The evaluations...

Thermodynamic interpretation and prediction of CO2 solubility in imidazolium ionic liquids based on regular solution theory

In the present work, the parameters of this model were determined for the CO2 absorption in eleven imidazolium ionic liquids. The y-intercept (A) of the RST model for the investigated imidazolium liquids increases with increasing temperature whereas the slope (B) remains constant. The values of RST parameters...

Dynamics of quantum entanglement
PublicationA model of discrete dynamics of entanglement of a bipartite quantum state is considered. It involves a global unitary dynamics of the system and periodic actions of local bistochastic or decaying channel. For initially pure states the decay of entanglement is accompanied by an increase of von Neumann entropy of the system. We observe and discuss revivals of entanglement due to unitary interaction of subsystems. For some mixed states...

The configurational term describes the contribution to entropy, which originates from spatial distribution of...

Nonlinear resultant theory of shells accounting for thermodiffusion
PublicationThe complete nonlinear resultant 2D model of shell thermodiffusion is developed. All 2D balance laws and the entropy imbalance are formulated by direct through-the-thickness integration of respective 3D laws of continuum thermodiffusion. This leads to a more rich thermodynamic structure of our 2D model with several additional 2D fields not present in the 3D parent model. Constitutive equations of elastic thermodiffusive shells...

Entropy Production Associated with Aggregation into Granules in a Subdiffusive Environment
PublicationWe study the entropy production that is associated with the growing or shrinking of a small granule in, for instance, a colloidal suspension or in an aggregating polymer chain. A granule will fluctuate in size when the energy of binding is comparable to k_{B}T, which is the “quantum” of Brownian energy. Especially for polymers, the conformational energy landscape is often rough and has been commonly modeled as being self-similar...

So, we study in the theoretical part the difference between...

About definition of modes and magnetosonic heating in a plasma’s flow: Especial cases of perpendicular and nearly perpendicular wave vector and magnetic field
PublicationDynamics of hydrodynamic perturbations in a plasma depend strongly on an angle between the wave vector and equilibrium straight magnetic field. The case of perpendicular propagation is especial. There are only two (fast) magnetosonic modes since two (slow) ones degenerate into the stationary one with zero speed of propagation. This demands individual definition of wave modes by the links of hydrodynamic relations. These links are...
