A cryptic ribosome binding site, false signals in reporter systems and avoidance of protein translation chaos
PublicationThe expression of reporter gene may be induced by activation of cryptic signalling sequences, as we found while constructing the mutS-lacZ fusion gene. We cloned the Escherichia coli lacZ gene encoding beta-galactosidase into a plasmid vector carrying the Thermus thermophilus mutS gene. The clones expected to produce beta-galactosidase as the C-terminal fusion were selected for the complementation of beta-galactosidase activity...

Low-Barrier Hydrogen Bond Determines Target-Binding Affinity and Specificity of the Antitubercular Drug Bedaquiline
PublicationThe role of short strong hydrogen bonds (SSHB) in ligand-target binding remains largely unexplored, thereby hin- dering a potentially important avenue in the rational drug de- sign. Here, we investigate the interaction between bedaquiline (Bq), a potent anti-tuberculosis drug, and the mycobacterial ATP synthase, to unravel the role of a specific hydrogen bond to a conserved acidic residue in the target affinity and specificity....

The role of additives in improving the flammability and calorific value of leather shavings and the binding of chromium compounds in ash
PublicationLeather processing companies are struggling with the problem of increasing costs of post-production waste disposal. Therefore, the issue of thermal waste disposal at the plant and the use of generated heat in the production process is becoming more and more popular. Effect of asymmetric fluid flow distribution on flow boiling in a microchannel heat sink – An experimental investigation
PublicationFlow boiling in microchannels is emerging as an exclusive cooling solution for miniaturized high-power electronic devices alongside having other high heat flux applications. Size miniaturization at microscale strangely increases heat transfer performance as well as flow boiling instabilities. Many flow boiling instabilities are interrelated and result from imperfect hydrodynamic conditions. One of such problems is flow maldistribution among...

Two-phase flows are associated with high heat transfer coefficients because of the latent heat of evaporation and high turbulence level between the liquid and the solid surface. Predicting heat transfer...
