Quantification of Radiation-Induced Single-Strand Breaks in Plasmid DNA using a TUNEL/ELISA-Based Assay
PublicationWprowadzono nową metodę służącą do oznaczania in vitro pojedynczych pęknięć nici DNA powstałych pod wpływem naświetlań. Porównano wyniki otrzymane z nowej metody z modelem teoretycznym.

Application of data segmentation and segregation in alarm dedicated glass breaks detection method, based on Wavelet Transformatio

Application of Rock Solid Attributes for robust identyfication of glass breaks acoustic signals via wavelet transformation

The Decisional DNA-Based Smart Bike for Internet of Things
PublicationIn this paper, we introduce a novel application of the Internet of Things, the Decisional DNAbased Smart Bike. The Decisional DNA is a domain-independent, flexible and standard knowledge representation structure; it allows its domains to acquire and store experiential knowledge and formal decision events in an explicit way. By using Decisional DNA, the sensor-equipped bicycle is able to learn its user’s weight, riding habits, etc....

On Tradeoffs Between Width- and Fill-like Graph Parameters
PublicationIn this work we consider two two-criteria optimization problems: given an input graph, the goal is to find its interval (or chordal) supergraph that minimizes the number of edges and its clique number simultaneously. For the interval supergraph, the problem can be restated as simultaneous minimization of the path width pw(G) and the profile p(G) of the input graph G. We prove that for an arbitrary graph G and an integer t ∈ {1,...

W-like bound entangled states and secure key distillation
PublicationWe construct multipartite entangled states with underlying W-type structuresatisfying positive partial transpose (PPT) condition under any (N −1)|1 partition. Then we showhow to distill a N-partite secure key from the states using two different methods: direct applicationof local filtering and novel random key distillation scheme in which we adopt the idea from recentresults on entanglement distillation. Open problems and possible...

Oxolane Ammonium Salts (Muscarine-Like)—Synthesis and Microbiological Activity
PublicationCommercially available 2-deoxy-D-ribose was used to synthesize the appropriate oxolane derivative—(2R,3S)-2-(hydroxymethyl)oxolan-3-ol—by reduction and dehydration/cyclization in an acidic aqueous solution. Its monotosyl derivative, as a result of the quaternization reaction, allowed us to obtain eight new muscarine-type derivatives containing a quaternary nitrogen atom and a hydroxyl group linked to the oxolane ring. Their structure...

Two-dimensional hydrogen-like atom in a weak magnetic field
PublicationWe consider a non-relativistic two-dimensional (2D) hydrogen-like atom in a weak, static, uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the atomic plane. Within the framework of the Rayleigh-Schr¨odinger perturbation theory, using the Sturmian expansion of the generalized radial Coulomb Green function, we derive explicit analytical expressions for corrections to an arbitrary planar hydrogenic bound-state energy level, up to the fourth...

Impact of Cyclist Facility Availability at Work on the Number of Bike Commuters
PublicationThe article describes the results of research designed to establish whether cycle provision can influence the number of employees commuting by bike. To that end, employee surveys were conducted in three IT companies in 2012 and 2016. The questionnaire asked about travel behaviour and what the staff thought about their company’s provision of cyclist facilities. Since 2012 each of the companies has moved its head office and the...

Exercise bike powered electric generator for fitness club appliances
PublicationA generator powered by a stationary bicycle for the purposes of generating electricity for fitness club appliances is considered. A generator is connected to a stationary bicycle in such a way as the circular rotation of the front wheel rotates the coils of wires inside the generator between the poles of the magnets inside the generator. The resulting Direct Current is channeled to the attached battery bank and converted into different...

Relativistic two-dimensional hydrogen-like atom in a weak magnetic field
PublicationA two-dimensional (2D) hydrogen-like atom with a relativistic Dirac electron, placed in a weak, static, uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the atomic plane, is considered. Closed forms of the first- and second-order Zeeman corrections to energy levels are calculated analytically, within the framework of the Rayleigh–Schrödinger perturbation theory, for an arbitrary electronic bound state. The second-order calculations are...

Preparation and Characterization of Diamond-like Carbon Coatings for Biomedical Applications—A Review
PublicationDiamond-like carbon (DLC) films are generally used in biomedical applications, mainly because of their tribological and chemical properties that prevent the release of substrate ions, extend the life cycle of the material, and promote cell growth. The unique properties of the coating depend on the ratio of the sp3/sp2 phases, where the sp2 phase provides coatings with a low coefficient of friction and good electrical conductivity,...

Numerical Simulations of Seepage in Dikes Using unsaturated and Two-Phase Flow Models
PublicationModeling of water flow in variably saturated porous media, including flood dikes, is often based on the Richards equation, which neglects the flow of pore air, assuming that it remains at constant atmospheric pressure. However, there is also evidence that the air flow can be important, especially when the connectivity between the pore air and atmospheric air is lost. In such cases a full two-phase air-water flow model should be...

Experimental results of full scattering profile from finger tissue-like phantom
PublicationHuman tissue is one of the most complex optical media since it is turbid and nonhomogeneous. We suggest a new optical method for sensing physiological tissue state, based on the collection of the ejected light at all exit angles, to receive the full scattering profile. We built a unique set-up for noninvasive encircled measurement. We use a laser, a photodetector and finger tissues-mimicking phantoms presenting different optical...
