A general framework of new subdivision regulations.

Keratin-Butyrate Scaffolds Promote Skin Wound Healing in Diabetic Rats Through Down-Regulation of IL-1β and Up-Regulation of Keratins 16 and 17
PublicationImpaired wound healing particularly in diabetics creates a significant healthcare burden. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of keratin-butyrate fibers (FKDP +0.1%NaBu) in a full-thickness skin wound model in 30 diabetic rats. Physicochemical examination showed that the obtained dressing possesses a heterogeneous structure and butyrate was slowly released into the wound. Moreover, the obtained dressing is nontoxic and supports...

Phosphorylation‐mediated regulation of heat shock response in Escherichia coli
PublicationEscherichia coli has two heat shock regulons under the transcriptional control of Esigma(32) and Esigma(E) RNA polymerases. These polymerases control the expression of genes, the products of which are needed for correct folding of proteins in the cytoplasm and the extracytoplasm respectively. In this study, we report that mutations in a tyrosine phosphatase-encoding gene led to decreased activity of these heat shock regulons. The...

Comparative testing of numerical models of river ice jams
PublicationIce processes in general, and ice jams in particular, play a dominant role in the hydrologic regime of Canadian rivers, often causing extreme floods and affecting the life cycle of many aquatic, terrestrial, and avian species. Various numerical models have been developed to help simulate the formation and consequences of these very dynamic and often destructive jam events. To test and compare the performance of existing models,...

Network Approach to Increments of RR-intervals for Visualization of Dynamics of Cardiac Regulation
PublicationThe transition network for RR -increments is pre- sented in a directed and weighted graph, with vertices represent- ing RR -increments and edges corresponding to the order in a sequence of increments. The adjacency matrix and the transition matrix of this network provide a graphical tool which could be useful in the assessment of cardiac regulation. As an example, the method is applied in detecting differences between diurnal activity...

A new factor LapD is required for the regulation of LpxC amounts and lipopolysaccharide trafficking
PublicationLipopolysaccharide (LPS) constitutes the major component of the outer membrane and is essential for bacteria, such as Escherichia coli. Recent work has revealed the essential roles of LapB and LapC proteins in regulating LPS amounts; although, if any additional partners are involved is unknown. Examination of proteins co-purifying with LapB identified LapD as a new partner. The purification of LapD reveals that it forms a complex...

Regulation of Cellular Redox Homeostasis by (–)-Epicatechin and Cocoa Extracts—A Pilot Study
PublicationCocoa polyphenols play an important role in protection against diseases in which oxidative stress is implicated as a causal or contributing factor. The main aim of this study was to elucidate the influence of different cocoa extracts and main cocoa bioactive compound (–)-epicatechin on cell growth and support of antioxidant cellular barrier in colon adenocarcinoma cell line model (HT29). Results show that the tested cocoa bioactivity...

Epigenetic regulation and regeneration: the search for differentially methylated genes in the MRL mouse
PublicationThe MRL mouse is an inbred laboratory strain, which was developed in the 60’s of the 20th century and has been extensively used as a model of lupus erythematosus. The regenerative abilities of the strain were discovered in the 90' when the MRL mouse was shown to close 2 mm hole punches made in the ear pinnae four weeks after injury without scarring. The phenomenon has not been observed in other mouse strains, where the holes...

THE STUDY OF WATER POLLUTION OF THE LOWER VISTULA RIVER BY PLASTIC PARTICLES
PublicationSince the beginning of widespread use of plastic its consumption and production has been constantly increasing. As a result of human activity part of waste ends up in our environment and is deposited in each of the elements of the biosphere. These impurities can be in the form of large elements, small particles fragmented to macroscopic level (pellets, facial scrub grains) and the microparticles visible under a microscope. Particularly...

Arch footbridge over Warta river in Wronki - design and construction
PublicationThe paper presents the concept of dynamic redesign of lively footbridge. The goal was to reduce probable dynamic excitation and change detailed structural concept. After the complex study the new design was created. In effect completely new static and dynamic properties were reached. Static and dynamic assumptions are explainde. General information, photos and drawings are presented. The final price of the project amounted to 1.25...

Preliminary study on toxicity of aquatic ecosystems in Bug river basin
PublicationW pracy zaprezentowano badania toksyczności wody, osadów i ścieków wykonane w dorzeczu rzeki Bug w 2001 r. Stosując standardowe mikrobiotesty, określono toksyczność wobec roślin, bakterii i skorupiaków. Wody powierzchniowe w dorzeczu rzeki Bug zakwalifikowano jako nietoksyczne, z wyjątkiem górnego dorzecza i punktu w Terespolu. Większość próbek ścieków wykazywała toksyczność wobec organizmów wskaźnikowych, przy czym różnice w odpowiedzi...

Preliminary estimation of groundwater recharge on Brda river outwash plain
PublicationEstimation of groundwater recharge is one of the most challenging subjects in hydrogeology. It is a critical factor influencing the pollution migration, assessment of aquifer vulnerability to contamination, small-scale groundwater budget calculation, modeling of nutrient cycling and detailed flow path calculations. In Poland an infiltration rate method is widely used, which depends on a system of rate coefficients referring to...

Experiencing historic waterways and water landscapes of the Vistula River Delta
PublicationThe paper gives insights into the characteristics of Vistula River Delta water landscapes, referring to the process of creating land out of water by Polish, Dutch and German settlers. Based on this, the paper presents an integrated strategy formed upon studies in cultural geography and aesthetics, and focused on enhancing the unique characteristics of the region and its rediscovery by tourism. The long process of constructing Vistula...

Application of a fuzzy neural network for river water quality prediction
PublicationMonitoring i modelowanie zmian w jakości wód powierzchniowych stanowią jeden z kluczowych elementów monitoringu i zarządzania ochroną środowiska na skalę globalną.

Modeling of Ice Passage Through Reservoirs System on the Vistula River
PublicationNumerical model was used to assess ice passage through proposed reservoir on the lower Vistula River. Model results were compared with observation on the Vistula River, but because the dam is not constructed yet, the direct comparison was not possible. The study focused on ice movement and accumulation in the reservoir for variety of low flow condition with and without wind effect. Bridge’s piers in the upper part of the reservoir...

A Numerical Model Study on Grasse River Ice Control Structures
PublicationIce jams in the Grasse River have caused the erosion of capping material designed to prevent the resurfacing of the bed sediment in the PCB-contaminated area. Two in-stream ice-control structures are proposed to avoid the jam-induced erosion of the capping material. These two ice-control options are a pier-type ice-control structure and a reconstruction of a small hydropower dam upstream of the capping site. A numerical model study...
