Exploring universities' efficiency differentials between countries in a multi-year perspective: an application of bootstrap DEA and Malmquist index to Italy and Poland, 2001-2011
PublikacjaThis study employs data envelopment analysis (DEA) to evaluate relative efficiency of a sample of 54 Italian and 30 Polish public universities for the period between 2001 and 2011. The examination is conducted in two steps: first unbiased DEA efficiency scores are estimated and then are regressed on external variables to quantitatively asses the direction and magnitude of the impact of potential determinants. The analysis shows...

Mutual Interaction between Temperature and DO Set Point on AOB and NOB Activity during Shortcut Nitrification in a Sequencing Batch Reactor in Terms of Energy Consumption Optimization
PublikacjaRecently, many wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have had to deal with serious problems related to the restrictive requirements regarding the euent quality, as well as significant energy consumption associated with it. In this situation, mainstream deammonification and/or shortened nitrification-denitrification via nitrite (so-called “nitrite shunt”) is a new promising strategy. This study shows the mechanisms and operating conditions...

FPGA-Based System for Electromagnetic Interference Evaluation in Random Modulated DC/DC Converters
PublikacjaField-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) provides the possibility to design new “electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) friendly” control techniques for power electronic converters. Such control techniques use pseudo-random modulators (RanM) to control the converter switches. However, some issues connected with the FPGA-based design of RanM, such as matching the range of fixed-point numbers, might be challenging. The modern programming...

Partial hyperbolicity and central shadowing
PublikacjaWe study shadowing property for a partially hyperbolic diffeomor- phism f. It is proved that if f is dynamically coherent then any pseudotrajec- tory can be shadowed by a pseudotrajectory with “jumps” along the central foliation. The proof is based on the Tikhonov-Shauder fixed point theorem.

Functional delay fractional equations
PublikacjaIn this paper, we discuss functional delay fractional equations. A Banach fixed point theorem is applied to obtain the existence (uniqueness) theorem. We also discuss such problems when a delay argument has a form α(t) = αt, 0 < α < 1, by Rusing the method of successive approximations. Some existence results are also formulated in this case. An example illustrates the main result.

Computations of the least number of periodic points of smooth boundary-preserving self-maps of simply-connected manifolds
PublikacjaLet $r$ be an odd natural number, $M$ a compact simply-connected smooth manifold, $\dim M\geq 4$, such that its boundary $\partial M$ is also simply-connected. We consider $f$, a $C^1$ self-maps of $M$, preserving $\partial M$. In [G. Graff and J. Jezierski, Geom. Dedicata 187 (2017), 241-258] the smooth Nielsen type periodic number $D_r(f;M,\partial M)$ was defined and proved to be equal to the minimal number of $r$-periodic points...

The vast majority of size-structured models are also treatable. Our model generalizes a number...

Therefore, there may be a relationship between index values and GNSS positioning results. A thorough understanding of ionospheric indices and their relationship to positioning results can help monitor and forecast...

An algorithmic approach to estimating the minimal number of periodic points for smooth self-maps of simply-connected manifolds
PublikacjaFor a given self-map f of M, a closed smooth connected and simply-connected manifold of dimension m 4, we provide an algorithm for estimating the values of the topological invariant D^m_r [f], which equals the minimal number of r-periodic points in the smooth homotopy class of f. Our results are based on the combinatorial scheme for computing D^m_r [f] introduced by G. Graff and J. Jezierski [J. Fixed Point Theory Appl. 13 (2013),...

In our work we summarize the...

ESTIMATING AVERSION TO RANK INEQUALITY UNDERLYING SELECTED ITALIAN INDICES OF INCOME INEQUALITY
PublikacjaIn this paper, we estimate aversion to rank inequality (ATRI) underlying selected Italian income inequality indices, I, notably the Pietra index, the Bonferroni index and the “new” Zenga index. We measure ATRI by the parameter v of the generalised Gini index G(v). ATRI is distinct from aversion to income inequality, as measured by parameter ε of Atkinson’s index A(ε). We propose eliciting v from the equation I = GE(v). As, in general,...
