Long‐time scale simulations of virus‐like particles from three human‐norovirus strains
PublikacjaThe dynamics of the virus like particles (VLPs) corresponding to the GII.4 Houston, GII.2 SMV, and GI.1 Norwalk strains of human noroviruses (HuNoV) that cause gastroenteritis was investigated by means of long-time (about 30 μs in the laboratory timescale) molecular dynamics simulations with the coarse-grained UNRES force field. The main motion of VLP units turned out to be the bending at the junction between the P1 subdomain (that...

Absorption spectroscopy setup for determination of whole human blood and blood–derived materials spectral characteristics
PublikacjaA dedicated absorption spectroscopy system was set up using tungsten-halogen broadband source, optical fibers, sample holder, and a commercial spectrometer with CCD array. Analysis of noise present in the setup was carried out. Data processing was applied to the absorption spectra to reduce spectral noise, and improve the quality of the spectra and to remove the baseline level. The absorption spectra were measured for whole blood...

Social Capital, Human Capital, Tacit Knowledge, and Innovations: A Polish-US Cross-Country Study
PublikacjaThis study measures the relationship between human and social capital (internal and external) and tacit knowledge sharing's influence on innovativeness among knowledge workers employed in Polish (n=1050) and US (n=1118) organizations. The structural equation modeling method revealed that internal social capital matters more for organizational innovativeness in the US. In Poland, both external and internal were important. Specifically,...

To donate or not to donate? Future healthcare professionals’ opinions on biobanking of human biological material for research purposes
PublikacjaBackground Over the last few decades biobanks have been recognised as institutions that may revolutionisebiomedical research and the development of personalised medicine. Poland, however, still lacks clear regulationsregarding the running of biobanks and the conducting of biomedical research. While the awareness of the generalpublic regarding biobanks is low, healthcare professions and medical students also...

The influence of Nigella sativa essential oil on proliferation, activation, and apoptosis of human T lymphocytes in vitro
PublikacjaIn previous work, we tested the immunomodulatory effect of Nigella sativa (NS) fatty oil. Our results demonstrated that unrefined, obtained by cold pressing black cumin seed oil inhibited lymphocytes’ proliferation and induced their apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. In this study, we examined the immunomodulatory properties of essential oil (EO) obtained from the NS seeds by hydrodistillation and its two main constituents:...

Preferred Benchmarking Criteria for Systematic Taxonomy of Embedded Platforms (STEP) in Human System Interaction Systems
PublikacjaThe rate of progress in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has significantly increased over the past ten years and continues to accelerate. Since then, AI has made the leap from research case studies to real production ready applications. The significance of this growth cannot be undermined as it catalyzed the very nature of computing. Conventional platforms struggle to achieve greater performance...

Direct electrical stimulation of the human brain has inverse effects on the theta and gamma neural activities
PublikacjaObjective: Our goal was to analyze the electrophysiological response to direct electrical stimulation (DES) systematically applied at a wide range of parameters and anatomical sites, with particular focus on neural activities associated with memory and cognition. Methods: We used a large set of intracranial EEG (iEEG) recordings with DES from 45 subjects with electrodes...

Validation of Hydraulic Mechanism during Blowout Trauma of Human Orbit Depending on the Method of Load Application
PublikacjaThe more we know about mechanisms of the human orbital blowout type of trauma, the better we will be able to prevent them in the future. As long as the buckling mechanism’s veracity is not in doubt, the hydraulic mechanism is not based on equally strong premises. To investigate the correctness of the hydraulic mechanism’s theory, two different methods of implementation of the hydraulic load to the finite element method (FEM) model...

Multifactor consciousness level assessment of participants with acquired brain injuries employing human–computer interfaces
PublikacjaBackground A lack of communication with people suffering from acquired brain injuries may lead to drawing erroneous conclusions regarding the diagnosis or therapy of patients. Information technology and neuroscience make it possible to enhance the diagnostic and rehabilitation process of patients with traumatic brain injury or post-hypoxia. In this paper, we present a new method for evaluation possibility of communication and the...

Human-associated bacteria and their mobile genetic elements - important minority in wastewater and wastewater impacted ecosystems
PublikacjaSince human-associated bacteria have been recognized as vectors in two - way gene transmission between the pathogenic and environmental populations, health hazard connected with wastewater discharge requires reevaluation. In this paper the particular attention was given to antimicrobial-resistance of Escherichia coli and enterococci isolated from wastewater and wastewater impacted environments. The obtained results showed that...

Transcriptional profile of in vitro expanded human epidermal progenitor cells for the treatment of non-healing wounds
PublikacjaBackground Epidermal progenitor cells (EPCs) have been under extensive investigation due to their increasing potential of application in medicine and biotechnology. Cultured human EPCs are used in the treatment of chronic wounds and have recently became a target for gene therapy and toxicological studies. One of the challenges in EPCs culture is to provide a high number of undifferentiated, progenitor cells displaying high viability...

Modulation of CYP1A1, CYP1A2 and CYP1B1 expression by cabbage juices and indoles in human breast cell lines
PublikacjaEpidemiological studies have shown that consumption of cab- bage and sauerkraut is connected with significant reduction of breast cancer incidences. Estrogens are considered a major breast cancer risk factor and their metabolism by P450 enzymes substan- tially contributes to carcinogenic activity. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cabbage and sauerkraut juices of differ- ent origin on the expression profile...

Imidazoacridinone C-1311 induces both autophagy and senescence in human lung cancer A549 cells

ABC transporters Cdr1p, Cdr2p and Cdr3p of a human pathogen Candida albicans are general phospholipid translocators
