Negative Poisson’s ratio from pentagons: A new auxetic structure combining three different auxetic mechanisms
PublikacjaA novel class of two-dimensional auxetic structures based on the pentagon motif is proposed. Their mechanical properties are investigated by combining molecular mechanics simulations with a simple three-parameter mechanical model which assumes perfectly elastic behavior. It is predicted that the proposed structures – termed as double re-entrant honeycomb – may possess unique mechanical characteristics, which include complete and...

EH36 steel for shipbuilding - fracture documentation for CTOD test (plate thicnkness 60mm), a0/W = 0.6
Dane BadawczeThe basic method of ductility designation of structural steels is the Charpy impact test. The test consists of a single strike of the specimen using a Charpy pendulum. Its result is the value of work necessary to break a specimen at a test temperature. Despite its many advantages, such as its short implementation time and low costs, it has its disadvantages,...

Centrally Pivoted Tilting Pad Thrust Bearing with Carbon-Based Coated Collar—Experimental Results of Low- and Medium-Speed Operation
PublikacjaExperimental results of the research on a tilting pad thrust bearing with symmetrical pad support in the conditions of high loads and low speeds are presented in the paper. As described in the literature review, experimental results of tilting pad bearings at low speed/high load regime and transient conditions are rare. Unusual material selection - steel pad against a DLC-type coating on the collar was utilized. Such material combination...

Assessing Acute Toxicity of Selected Packages Internal Layers Extracts using Microtox®
PublikacjaIn the scientific literature related to the widely understood issue of packaging materials designed to have contact with food (food contact materials), there is much information on raw materials used for their production, as well as their physiochemical properties, types and parameters. Unfortunately, not much attention is given to the issues concerning migration of toxic substances from packaging and its actual influence on the...

For a concentration 60.0 mg L-1 of cephalexin, optimum removal conditions were: pH of the sample 3.0, adsorbent amount 1.0 g, contact time 20.0 min, added amount of sodium chloride to adjust the ionic strength of the solution 7.0 g L-1. Langmuir isotherm was the best...

Three Principles for Healthy Living with Light and Lighting
PublikacjaThe lockdown measures applied to cities and towns during the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic have had a widespread impact on people’s lives. Some have found themselves confined to their homes, with limited social contact and a reduced quality of life. Others have found that the lockdown improved their wellbeing, as more time was spent outside, instead of commuting and working in an office building, plus the benefits of spending increased...

Micro-modelling of shear localization during quasi-static confined granular flow in silos using DEM
PublikacjaThe paper deals with the quasi-static confined flow of cohesionless sand in a plane strain model silo with parallel walls and a slowly movable bottom. Numerical modelling was carried out by the discrete element method (DEM) using spheres with contact moments to approximately capture a non-uniform shape of sand particles. Different initial void ratios of sand and silo wall roughness grades were employed. Regular triangular grooves...

On rotational instability within the nonlinear six-parameter shell theory
PublikacjaWithin the six-parameter nonlinear shell theory we analyzed the in-plane rotational instability which oc- curs under in-plane tensile loading. For plane deformations the considered shell model coincides up to notations with the geometrically nonlinear Cosserat continuum under plane stress conditions. So we con- sidered here both large translations and rotations. The constitutive relations contain some additional mi- cropolar parameters...

Wear of Ultra-thin DLC or Tungsten-modified DLC Coatings under Reciprocating Sliding
PublikacjaIn the paper results are presented from tests in reciprocating sliding of self mated specimens of DLC and tungsten modified DLC coatings on stainless steel substrate. The contact geometry chosen for the research task was ball on flat. The contacts were lubricated either with distilled water or medical saline solution. Results are presented with regard to wear resistance as a function of material type and lubricant used.

Digital Fingerprinting based on Quaternion Encryption for Image Transmission
PublikacjaIn this paper a new digital fingerprinting scheme for images is proposed. A proposed method is based on quaternion encryption with Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) mode of operation. Quaternions are hyper-complex numbers of rank 4 and thus often applied to mechanics in three-dimensional space. The encryption algorithm is designed for grey-tone images. For purpose of encryption, the algorithm uses the rotation of data vectors presented...

Dynamical objectivity in quantum Brownian motion
PublikacjaClassical objectivity as a property of quantum states —a view proposed to explain the observer-independent character of our world from quantum theory, is an important step in bridging the quantum-classical gap. It was recently derived in terms of spectrum broadcast structures for small objects embedded in noisy photon-like environments. However, two fundamental problems have arisen: a description of objective motion and applicability...

Analytical studies of spectrum broadcast structures in quantum Brownian motion
PublikacjaSpectrum broadcast structures are a new and fresh concept in the quantum-to-classical transition, introduced recently in the context of decoherence and the appearance of objective features in quantum mechanics. These are specific quantum state structures, responsible for the objectivization of the decohered state of a system. Recently, they have been demonstrated by means of the well-known quantum Brownian motion model of the recoilless...
