Nanoparticle-assisted biohydrogen production from pretreated food industry wastewater sludge: Microbial community shifts in batch and continuous processes
PublikacjaBiohydrogen production from industrial waste has gained a significant attention as a sustainable energy source. In this study, the enrichment of biohydrogen production from pretreated dissolved air flotation (DAF) sludge, generated from food industry wastewater treatment plants, was investigated using SiO2@Cu-Ag dendrites cor- e–shell nanostructure (NS). The effect of NS on the changes of the microbial community and biohydrogen...

Bioreactors and biophoton-driven biohydrogen production strategies
PublikacjaGiven the current issues with global warming and rising greenhouse gas emissions, biohydrogen is a viable alternative fuel option. Technologies to produce biohydrogen include photo fermentation, dark fermentation, direct and indirect bio-photolysis, and two-stage fermentation. Biological hydrogen generation is a green and promising technique with mild reaction conditions and low energy consumption compared to thermochemical and...

Protect our right to light
Publikacja“The struggle for light” is how the Swiss architect Le Corbusier described the history of architecture in 1935. Today, with the skies crowded out by buildings in modern cities, those words should ring in the ears of policymakers and planners. Skyscraper construction is booming. China is the leader, last year completing 88 of the 143 buildings around the world that are taller than 200 metres (see ‘Vertical growth’). As the nation’s...

Highly stable CsFAPbIBr perovskite solar cells with dominant bulk recombination at real operating temperatures
PublikacjaMixed-cation mixed-halide perovskite solar cells have been characterized in DC at different temperatures (from −20 °C up to 50 °C) and the time evolution of the device efficiency has been assessed using different degradation protocols (indoors and outdoors). The completely planar p–i–n structure is ITO/CuNiOx/PTAA/CsFAPbIBr/PCBM/PEI/Ag. Pristine current–voltage characteristics barely show hysteresis, at any temperature. Open circuit...

Photovoltaic properties of cadmium selenide–titanyl phthalocyanine planar heterojunction devices
PublikacjaPhotovoltaic phenomenon taking place in cadmium selenide (CdSe)/titanyl phthalocyanine (TiOPc) planar heterojunction devices is described. Mechanisms of free charge carrier generation and their recombination in the dark and under illumination are analyzed, chosen photovoltaic parameters are presented.

Hydrothermal Cobalt Doping of Titanium Dioxide Nanotubes towards Photoanode Activity Enhancement
PublikacjaDoping and modification of TiO2 nanotubes were carried out using the hydrothermal method. The introduction of small amounts of cobalt (0.1 at %) into the structure of anatase caused an increase in the absorption of light in the visible spectrum, changes in the position of the flat band potential, a decrease in the threshold potential of water oxidation in the dark, and a significant increase in the anode photocurrent. The material...

Oxygen sensitivity of hydrogenesis’ and methanogenesis’
PublikacjaIn the chapter, results of dark fermentation of sour cabbage in presence of oxygen with concentrations 2-9% are presented. The presence of oxygen in such concentration inhibits methanogesis (and methane production more than 2 times) and increases hydrogen production 6 times. It also shortens the fermentation process above 40%.

A CMOS Pixel With Embedded ADC, Digital CDS and Gain Correction Capability for Massively Parallel Imaging Array
PublikacjaIn the paper, a CMOS pixel has been proposed for imaging arrays with massively parallel image acquisition and simultaneous compensation of dark signal nonuniformity (DSNU) as well as photoresponse nonuniformity (PRNU). In our solution the pixel contains all necessary functional blocks: a photosensor and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with built-in correlated double sampling (CDS) integrated together. It is implemented in...

Cathodically activated Au/TiO2 nanocomposite synthesized by a new facile solvothermal method: An efficient electrocatalyst with Pt-like activity for hydrogen generation
PublikacjaWe report here a facile, template-free and one-step solvothermal approach for the synthesis of high-temperature stable gold/titania nanocomposite (NCs), providing a new, simple, quick and inexpensive wet-chemical route. Our approach is based on the assembly of gold salt and titanium butoxide in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Also, we present here, for the first time, a cathodically activated Au/TiO2 catalyst with Pt/C activity for...

MACHINE LEARNING–BASED ANALYSIS OF ENGLISH LATERAL ALLOPHONES
PublikacjaAutomatic classification methods, such as artificial neural networks (ANNs), the k-nearest neighbor (kNN) and selforganizing maps (SOMs), are applied to allophone analysis based on recorded speech. A list of 650 words was created for that purpose, containing positionally and/or contextually conditioned allophones. For each word, a group of 16 native and non-native speakers were audio-video recorded, from which seven native speakers’...

Photoelectric properties of a novel MEH-PPV/F16ZnPc heterojunction
PublikacjaPhotoelectric properties of a novel poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy-p-phenylenevinylen)] (MEH-PPV)/perfluorozincphthalocyanine (F16ZnPc) planar heterojunction provided with BCP and MoO3 buffer layers sandwiched between indium tin oxide (ITO) and Ag are shown. Efficient photogeneration of charge carriers at this junction is observed. Effect of bathocuproine (BCP) and MoO3 buffer layers on the performance of cells is analysed....

Sensitive Demonstration of the Twin-Core Couplers including Kerr Law Non-Linearity via Beta Derivative Evolution
PublikacjaTo obtain new solitary wave solutions for non-linear directional couplers using optical meta-materials, a new extended direct algebraic technique (EDAT) is used. This model investigates solitary wave propagation inside a fiber. As a result, twin couplers are the subject of this study. Kerr law is the sort of non-linearity addressed there. Because it offers solutions to problems with large tails or infinite fluctuations, the resulting...

Fixed Pattern Noise Reduction and Linearity Improvement in Time-Mode CMOS Image Sensors
PublikacjaIn the paper, a digital clock stopping technique for gain and offset correction in time-mode analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) has been proposed. The technique is dedicated to imagers with massively parallel image acquisition working in the time mode where compensation of dark signal non-uniformity (DSNU) as well as photo-response non-uniformity (PRNU) is critical. Fixed pattern noise (FPN) reduction has been experimentally validated...

Fermentative Conversion of Two-Step Pre-Treated Lignocellulosic Biomass to Hydrogen
PublikacjaFermentative hydrogen production via dark fermentation with the application of lignocellulosic biomass requires a multistep pre-treatment procedure, due to the complexed structure of the raw material. Hence, the comparison of the hydrogen productivity potential of different lignocellulosic materials (LCMs) in relation to the lignocellulosic biomass composition is often considered as an interesting field of research. In this study,...
