User experience evaluation study on the quality of 1K, 2K, and 4K H.265/HEVC video content
PublikacjaNowadays, most content creators focus on distributing rich media at the highest possible resolution. Currently, the majority of sold consoles, media players, computer hardware, as well as displays and TVs are advertised as 4K-compatible. The same trend is observed in the case of popular online streaming services and terrestrial TV broadcasts. Generally speaking, it is assumed that higher bitrates provide higher subjective judgements....

Elucidating the impact of enzymatic modifications on the structure, properties, and applications of cellulose, chitosan, starch and their derivatives: a review
PublikacjaPolysaccharides, as one of the most prominent natural biopolymers, display numerous biological activities and industrial applications. Nevertheless, some polysaccharides lack biological properties or display weak biological activities. Besides, practical usages of polysaccharides still remain challenging because of their poor solubility and inappropriate hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance. Hence, enzymatic or chemical modifications...

Observing its long-term effects on a short-term, multi-day evaluation of the effectiveness of hearing aid use
PublikacjaThe main objective of the research study was to develop a method for evaluating the effectiveness of hearing protection with hearing aids tailored to the needs and prevailing conditions in the acoustic environments where the elderly most often reside. The method was also intended to estimate the benefits of hearing aids and allow prediction of such an effect based on a short-term trial. It is noteworthy that a short-term evaluation...

Wild oscillations in a nonlinear neuron model with resets: (II) Mixed-mode oscillations
PublikacjaThis work continues the analysis of complex dynamics in a class of bidimensional nonlinear hybrid dynamical systems with resets modeling neuronal voltage dynamics with adaptation and spike emission. We show that these models can generically display a form of mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs), which are trajectories featuring an alternation of small oscillations with spikes or bursts (multiple consecutive spikes). The mechanism by...

Parki tematyczne w rozwoju lokalnym miasteczek i wsi

Dobrze się dzieje, gdy takie przedsięwzięcie wspiera lokalne tradycje, zwyczaje i walory kulturowe miasta czy wsi; gdy promowane są miejscowe produkty i żywność. Niestety, nie zawsze tak jest. Niektóre miasta i gminy chętniej przyjmują zupełnie inną politykę...

Entanglement and Nonlocality are Inequivalent for Any Number of Parties
PublikacjaUnderstanding the relation between nonlocality and entanglement is one of the fundamental problems in quantum physics. In the bipartite case, it is known that these two phenomena are inequivalent, as there exist entangled states of two parties that do not violate any Bell inequality. However, except for a single example of an entangled three-qubit state that has a local model, almost nothing is known about such a relation in multipartite...
