FPGA-Based System for Electromagnetic Interference Evaluation in Random Modulated DC/DC Converters
PublicationField-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) provides the possibility to design new “electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) friendly” control techniques for power electronic converters. Such control techniques use pseudo-random modulators (RanM) to control the converter switches. However, some issues connected with the FPGA-based design of RanM, such as matching the range of fixed-point numbers, might be challenging. The modern programming...

Low-energy positron collisions with water: elastic and rotationally inelastic scattering
PublicationDifferential, integral and momentum transfer cross sections for the vibrationally elastic and rotationally inelastic scattering of positrons from water at low collision energy (E ≤ 10 eV) are reported. Several models within the R-matrix method are used to compute the body-fixed T-matrices, while the scattering calculations are performed within the fixed-nuclei approximation corrected with the standard Born-closure formula. These...

Partial hyperbolicity and central shadowing
PublicationWe study shadowing property for a partially hyperbolic diffeomor- phism f. It is proved that if f is dynamically coherent then any pseudotrajec- tory can be shadowed by a pseudotrajectory with “jumps” along the central foliation. The proof is based on the Tikhonov-Shauder fixed point theorem.

Wavelet-based denoising method for real phonocardiography signal recorded by mobile devices in noisy environment
PublicationThe main obstacle in development of intelligent autodiagnosis medical systems based on the analysis of phonocardiography (PCG) signals is noise. The noise can be caused by digestive and respiration sounds, movements or even signals from the surrounding environment and it is characterized by wide frequency and intensity spectrum. This spectrum overlaps the heart tones spectrum, which makes the problem of PCG signal filtrating complex....

PublicationEfficiency of various gas detection algorithms by applying fluctuation enhanced sensing method was discussed. We have analyzed resistance noise observed in resistive WO3- nanowires gas sensing layers. Power spectral densities of the recorded noise were used as the input data vectors for two algorithms: the principal component analysis (PCA) and the support vector machine (SVM). The data were used to determine gas concentration...

These approaches are examined based on strong motion recordings from four instrumented SMRF buildings in California to informbest practices for seismic response simulation. These buildings represent...

The Maslov index and the spectral flow—revisited
PublicationWe give an elementary proof of a celebrated theorem of Cappell, Lee and Miller which relates the Maslov index of a pair of paths of Lagrangian subspaces to the spectral flow of an associated path of self-adjoint first-order operators. We particularly pay attention to the continuity of the latter path of operators, where we consider the gap-metric on the set of all closed operators on a Hilbert space. Finally, we obtain from Cappell,...

Nonadditivity of quantum and classical capacities for entanglement breaking multiple-access channels and the butterfly network
PublicationWe analyze quantum network primitives which are entanglement breaking. We show superadditivity of quantum and classical capacity regions for quantum multiple-access channels and the quantum butterfly network. Since the effects are especially visible at high noise they suggest that quantum information effects may be particularly helpful in the case of the networks with occasional high noise rates. The present effects provide a qualitative...

Resonant ultrasonic spectroscopy in high-voltage varistor spectroscopy
PublicationResonant spectroscopy is an effective non-destructive testing method focused on defects in tested objects. The testing procedure, based on the resonant pattern, allows rejection of the tested samples with defects which do not fit the pattern. A sweeping frequency method has been used to measure the spectrum of resonances in high-voltage varistors. As a result we can observe resonances that depend directly on inhomogeneity of the...

Dynamical description of quantum computing: generic nonlocality of quantumnoise
PublicationWe develop a dynamical non-Markovian description of quantum computing in the weak-coupling limit, in the lowest-order approximation. We show that the long-range memory of the quantum reservoir (such as the 1/t4 one exhibited by electromagnetic vacuum) produces a strong interrelation between the structure of noise and the quantum algorithm, implying nonlocal attacks of noise. This shows that the implicit assumption of quantum error...

Suppression of distortions in signals received from Doppler sensor for vehicle speed measurement
PublicationDoppler sensors are commonly used for movement detection and speed measurement. The paper proposes an algorithm for reduction of distortions and noise in the signal received from a simple, dual-channel type of a Doppler...

The computational complexity of the backbone coloring problem for bounded-degree graphs with connected backbones
PublicationGiven a graph G, a spanning subgraph H of G and an integer λ>=2, a λ-backbone coloring of G with backbone H is a vertex coloring of G using colors 1, 2, ..., in which the color difference between vertices adjacent in H is greater than or equal to lambda. The backbone coloring problem is to find such a coloring with maximum color that does not exceed a given limit k. In this paper, we study the backbone coloring problem for bounded-degree...

We also discuss such problems when a delay argument has a form α(t) = αt, 0 < α < 1, by Rusing the method of successive approximations. Some existence results are also formulated in this case. An example illustrates the main result.
