Magnetic deep eutectic solvents as efficient media for extraction of furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from aqueous samples
PublicationThe extraction of furfural (FF) and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) from hydrolysates is currently one of the main challenges in bio-refinery. In this work, the separation of FF and HMF from the aqueous phase was carried out using a new type of green solvents – Magnetic Deep Eutectic Solvents (MDES). A conductor-like screening model for realistic solvents (COSMO-RS) was used for the preselection of 400 MDES. MDES which exhibit the...

Magnetic and capacitive couplings influence on power losses in double circuit high voltage overhead transmission line
PublicationPurpose – The paper aims to discuss problems of power and energy losses in a double-circuit overhead transmission line. It was observed from energymeters’ readings, that in such a line, active power losses can be measured as “negative”. The “negative” active power losses appear when the active power injected to the circuit is lower than the active power received at the circuit end. The purpose of this paper is to explain this phenomenon. Theoretical...

The Magnetic Fluid Seals Research Results vs. Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability and Preliminary Conclusions
PublicationIn the article a magnetic-fluid seals durability research and the tests results are presented. The tests were made with three magnetic fluids using various magnets quantity in magnetic assemblies. If values obtained in the repeated test deviated by more than 10 % from results of the first test an additional control test was made for final characteristics. The characteristics are: critical pressure, critical motion velocity and...

STRUCTURE AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF Bi5Ti3FeO15 CERAMICS PREPARED BY SINTERING, MECHANICAL ACTIVATION AND EDAMM PROCESS. A COMPARATIVE STUDY
PublicationThree different methods were used to obtain Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics, i.e. solid-state sintering, mechanical activation (MA) with subsequent thermal treatment, and electrical discharge assisted mechanical milling (EDAMM). The structure and magnetic properties of produced Bi5Ti3FeO15 samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The purest Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics was obtained by standard solid-state sintering...

Nanodiamond phantoms mimicking human liver: perspective to calibration of T1 relaxation time in magnetic resonance imaging
PublicationPhantoms of biological tissues are materials that mimic the properties of real tissues. This study shows the development of phantoms with nanodiamond particles for calibration of T1 relaxation time in magnetic resonance imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a commonly used and non-invasive method of detecting pathological changes inside the human body. Nevertheless, before a new MRI device is approved for use, it is necessary...

Charge density wave, enhanced mobility, and large nonsaturating magnetoresistance across the magnetic states of HoNiC2 and ErNiC2
PublicationWe report on magnetotransport and thermoelectric properties of two ternary carbides HoNiC2 and ErNiC2 hosting both charge density wave and long-range magnetic order. In the charge density wave state, both compounds show relatively large magnetoresistance MR ≈ 150% in HoNiC2 and ≈ 70%in ErNiC2 at a magnetic field of 9 T and temperature as low as 2 K. This positive field-linear magnetoresistance shows no signatures of saturation....

The decay of quantum correlations between quantum dot spin qubits and the characteristics of its magnetic-field dependence
PublicationWe address the question of the role of quantum correlations beyond entanglement in the context of quantum magnetometry. We study the evolution of the rescaled variant of the geometric quantum discord of two electron-spin qubits interacting with an environment of nuclear spins via the hyperfine interaction. We have found that quantum correlations display a strong magnetic-field sensitivity which can be utilized for decoherence-driven...

Efficiency of service recovery in scale-free optical networks under multiple node failures
PublicationIn this paper we examine the properties of scale-free networks in case of simultaneous failures of two networknodes. Survivability assumptions are as follows: end-to-end path protection with two node-disjoint backup pathsfor each working path. We investigate three models of scale-free networks generation: IG, PFP and BA.Simulations were to measure the lengths of active and backup paths and the values of service recovery time.We...

The geometry of free-standing titania nanotubes as a critical factor controlling their optical and photoelectrochemical performance
PublicationTitanium dioxide nanotubes are regarded as one of the most important functional materials and due to their unique electronic properties, chemical stability and photocorrosion resistance, they find applications in, for example, highly efficient photocatalysis or perovskite solar cells. Nevertheless, modification of TiO2 nanotubes is required to overcome their main drawback, i.e. large energy bandgap (>3.2 eV) limiting their ability...
