The Self-employment of Women in Azerbaijan
PublicationAzerbaijan has a population of more than 10 million, of which women accounted for 50% in 2020. At the same time, 93% of Azerbaijan’s citizens describe themselves as Muslims. Since the beginning of independence, Azerbaijan has been a secular state by virtue of Article 48 of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of worship, choice, or non-practice of religion and the freedom of...

Self-employment of women: an opportunity or the last resort?
PublicationIt is believed that automatization and technological changes will be the main drivers of work in the future. At the same time, there is a growing discussion about new forms of employment, such as self-employment. It may be either perceived as a chance for empowerment, through creating new job opportunities, that were not reachable previously, or as precarious work, with less stability, higher risk, and uncertain income. The main...

Tuning the work function of graphite nanoparticles via edge termination
PublicationGraphite nanoparticles are important in energy materials applications such as lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), supercapacitors and as catalyst supports. Tuning the work function of the nanoparticles allows local control of lithiation behaviour in LIBs, and the potential of zero charge of electrocatalysts and supercapacitors. Using large scale density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we find that the surface termination of multilayer...

Accelerated Parameter Tuning of Antenna Structures by Means of Response Features and Principal Directions
PublicationPopularity of numerical optimization has been steadily on the rise in the design of modern antenna systems. Resorting to mathematically rigorous parameter tuning methods is a matter of practical necessity as interactive techniques (e.g., parameter sweeping) are no longer adequate when handling several performance figures over multi-dimensional parameter spaces. The most common design scenarios involve local tuning since decent...

Thermal Self-Action of Acoustic Beams Containing Several Shock Fronts

The results are compared with the non-stationary thermal self-action of the periodic sound. Thermal self-action...

Tuning the ferromagnetic phase in the CDW compound SmNiC2 via chemical alloying
PublicationWe report a study on tuning the charge density wave (CDW) ferromagnet SmNiC2 to a weakly coupled superconductor by substituting La for Sm. X-ray diffraction measurements show that the doped compounds obey Vegard’s law, where La (Lu) alloying expands (shrinks) the lattice due to its larger (smaller) atomic size than Sm. In the series Sm1−xLaxNiC2, CDW transition (TCDW =148K) for SmNiC2 is gradually suppressed, while the ferromagnetic...

Some ways of alleviating these issues...
