Optical and structural properties of polycrystalline CVD diamond films grown on fused silica optical fibres pre-treated by high-power sonication seeding
PublicationIn this paper, the growth of polycrystalline chemical vapour deposition (CVD) diamond thin films on fused silica optical fibres has been investigated. The research results show that the effective substrate seeding process can lower defect nucleation, and it simultaneously increases surface encapsulation. However, the growth process on glass requires high seeding density. The effects of suspension type and ultrasonic power were...

High Speed Milling vibration surveillance with optimal spindle speed based on optimal speeds map
PublicationThe paper presents the method of the surveillance of the self-excited chatter vibration. At first, the workpiece modal parameters are estimated based on experimental data which leads to verification of computational model. Then, for selected surface points optimal spindle speeds are calculated. By considering sufficient amount of points it is possible to build a map of optimal spindle speeds. Experimental results show that this...

Liveness measurements using optical flow for biometric person authentication

Selective Protection for All-Optical Physical Impairment Constrained Routing
PublicationW przypadku sieci optycznych, zauważalna jest obecnie tendencja dążenia do transmisji całowicie optycznej (tz. bez konwersji O/E/O w węzłach tranzytowych). Jednakże w niedalekiej przyszłości, z uwagi na techniczne ograniczenia, niemożliwa będzie obsługa całości ruchu wyłącznie w dziedzinie optycznej. Operatorzy będą więc zainteresowani oferowaniem rozwiązań przejściowych implikujących przełączanie w dziedzinie optycznej jedynie...

In-situ optical diagnostics of boron-doped diamond films growth
PublicationInterferometry is a desirable method for in-situ measurement of thin, dielectric film growth, as it don't modify conditions of film deposition. Here we present interferometrical measurements of thickness of doped diamond films during Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. For this purpose we used a semiconductor laser with a 405nm wavelength. Additional ex-situ measurement using spectral interferometry and ellipsometry...

Parallel multithread computing for spectroscopic analysis in optical coherence tomography
PublicationSpectroscopic Optical Coherence Tomography (SOCT) is an extension of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). It allows gathering spectroscopic information from individual scattering points inside the sample. It is based on time-frequency analysis of interferometric signals. Such analysis requires calculating hundreds of Fourier transforms while performing a single A-scan. Additionally, further processing of acquired spectroscopic information...

Practical issues for the implementation of survivability and recovery techniques in optical networks
PublicationFailures in optical networks are inevitable. They may occur during work being done for the maintenance of other infrastructures, or on a larger scale as the result of an attack or large-scale disaster. As a result, service availability, an important aspect of Quality of Service (QoS), is often degraded. Appropriate fault recovery techniques are thus crucial to meet the requirements set by the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between...

Optical method for verification of homogeneity of phantoms for calibration of magnetic resonance
PublicationThe primary purpose of this study was to develop a laboratory photonic set-up for characterisation of homogeneity of gel phantoms for calibration of magnetic resonance. In this system, optical coherence tomography allows the detection of micro- and macroscopic heterogeneities of a structure. The set-up was used to perform measurements of agar and agar-carrageenan gels, which are the basis for more complex phantoms for magnetic...

Studies on optical transmittance of boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond films
PublicationThickness is one of the most important parameters in many applications using thin layers. This article describes thickness determination of a boron-doped nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) grown on fused silica glass. A spectroscopic measurement system has been used. A high refractive index (2.3 at 550nm) was achieved for NCD films. The thickness of NCD samples has been determined from the transmission spectrum.

Modeling of multi-cavity Fabry-Perot optical fiber sensors
PublicationReflectance characteristics of a two-cavity extrinsic Fabry-Perot optical fiber sensor were investigated using computer modeling. Calculations were performed using a plane wave-based approach, selected for clarity of results. Based on the modeling results, it can be concluded that the two-cavity Fabry-Perot interferometer can be used to measure two different quantities, such as refractive index and temperature, independently. It...

Disaster Resilience of Optical Networks: State of the Art, Challenges, and Opportunities
PublicationFor several decades, optical networks, due to their high capacity and long-distance transmission range, have been used as the major communication technology to serve network traffic, especially in the core and metro segments of communication networks. Unfortunately, our society has often experienced how the correct functioning of these critical infrastructures can be substantially hindered by massive failures triggered by natural...

In this paper, the sensitivity to the temperature of a few-layer black phosphorus coating deposited, on the surface of a microsphere-based fiber-optic sensor, by a dip-coating method is presented. The coating was investigated after 2, 3, and 5 deposition cycles and during temperature growth from 50 °C to 300 °C in an interferometric setup. The intensity...
