On thermal stability of topological qubit in Kitaev's 4D model
PublicationWe analyse stability of the four-dimensional Kitaev model-a candidate for scalable quantum memory - in finite temperature within the weak coupling Markovian limit. It is shown that, below a critical temperature, certain topological qubit observables X and Z possess relaxation times exponentially long in the size of the system. Their construction involves polynomial in system size algorithm which uses as an input the results of...

Pipelined sceling of signed residue numbers with the mixed-radix conversion in the programmable gate array
PublicationIn this work a scaling technique of signed residue numbers is proposed. The method is based on conversion to the Mixed-Radix System (MRS) adapted for the FPGA implementation. The scaling factor is assumed to be a moduli product from the Residue Number System (RNS) base. Scaling is performed by scaling of terms of the mixed-radix expansion, generation of residue reprezentation of scaled terms, binary addition of these representations...

FDTD-Compatible Green's function based on scalar discrete Green's function and multidimensional Z-transform
PublicationIn this contribution, a new formulation of the discrete Green's function (DGF) is presented for the finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) grid. Recently, dyadic DGF has been derived from the impulse response of the discretized scalar wave equation (i.e., scalar DGF) with the use of the multidimensional Z-transform. Its software implementation is straightforward because only elementary functions are involved and a single function...

Seismic pounding between adjacent buildings: Identification of parameters, soil interaction issues and mitigation measures
PublicationStructural pounding has been observed in many previous earthquakes due to insufficient gap commonly provided between adjacent structures. The collisions usually generate large impact forces and short duration acceleration pulses which may result in significant damage to the colliding buildings. Because of that, earthquake induced structural pounding has been intensively studied and investigated for the last three decades. Results...

Strong ellipticity within the Toupin–Mindlin first strain gradient elasticity theory
PublicationWe discuss the strong ellipticity (SE) condition within the Toupin–Mindlin first strain gradient elasticity theory. SE condition is closely related to certain material instabilities and describes mathematical properties of corresponding boundary-value problems. For isotropic solids, SE condition transforms into two inequalities in terms of five gradient-elastic moduli.
