Assessment of the Steering Precision of a Hydrographic Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) along Sounding Profiles Using a Low-Cost Multi-Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Receiver Supported Autopilot
Publicationhe performance of bathymetric measurements by traditional methods (using manned vessels) in ultra-shallow waters, i.e., lakes, rivers, and sea beaches with a depth of less than 1 m, is often difficult or, in many cases, impossible due to problems related to safe vessel maneuvering. For this reason, the use of shallow draft hydrographic Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV) appears to provide a promising alternative method for performing...

Equivalent standard manoeuvres for pod-driven ships
PublicationProcedures for carrying out the manoeuvring tests presented in International Maritime Organisation (IMO) resolution MSC.137(76) are based on the capabilities of ships with conventional steering-propulsion systems. Therefore they do not correspond to ships with other steering-propulsion devices, like pod drives. IMO is aware of this shortcoming and for ships with non-conventional steering and propulsion system may permit the use...

A Wideband Rotary-Joint-Free H-Plane Horn Antenna With 360° Steerable Radiation Pattern Using Gap Waveguide Technology
PublicationConsidering the limitations of electronically steerable antennas such as limited steering span, gain degradation for large steering angles, complexity, and cost, this article is focused on the design of a simple mechanically steerable H-plane horn antenna. It is shown that since there is no need for an electrical connection between the top and bottom sections of a gap waveguide (GWG), if a sectoral horn is properly designed and realized...

Research on protection mechanisms of Resilient Packet Ring Network.
PublicationPaper describes iSteering - a new method to control traffic in case of RPR network failure. There's comparison of packet wrapping, steering and our proposed method iSteering, which can be used in case of transmitter/receiver or fiber failure. Numerical analysis for even and random traffic flow has been made in order to compare packet wrapping, steering and iSteering. The results of all the tests are included.

Determination of probabilities defining safety of a sea-going ship during performance of a transportation task in stormy weather conditions
PublicationThe paper presents the possibility of applying the theory of semi-Markov processes to determine the limiting distribution for the process of changes of technical states being reliability states of the systems of sea-going ships significantly affecting safety of such ships, which include main engine, propeller and steering gear. The distribution concerns the probabilities of occurrence of the said states defined for a long time...

Low-Profile ESPAR Antenna for RSS-Based DoA Estimation in IoT Applications
PublicationIn this paper, we have introduced a low-profile electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna that can successfully be used to estimate the direction-of-arrival (DoA) of incoming signals in wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, in which the height of the complete antenna has to be low. The proposed antenna is over three times lower than high-profile ESPAR antenna designs currently available in the literature...

Application of the IMO standard manoeuvres procedure for pod-driven ships
PublicationInternational Maritime Organisation (IMO) in the resolution MSC.137(76) Standards for Ship manoeuvrability presents the manoeuvring criteria that has to be satisfied by majority of seagoing ships. Together with the criteria, procedures for carrying out the manoeuvring tests are also presented. They however do not correspond directly to ships with non-conventional steering-propulsion devices, like pod drives. IMO is aware of this...

efficient fractional delay hilbert transform filter in the farrow structure
PublicationIn this paper the design and application of a Fractional Delay Hilbert Transform Filter (FDHTF) into an adaptive sub-sample delay estimation between two separated sinusoidal signals is considered. The FDHTF incorporates the functions of Hilbertian and variable fractional delay filtering of the incoming signal simultaneously, in one stage. In traditional approach each of these operations was performed separately. Obtained value...

Modeling of performance and safety of a multi-task unmanned autonomous maritime vehicle = Modelowanie ruchu i bezpieczeństwa wielozadaniowego bezzałogowego autonomicznego pojazdu wodnego
PublicationAt the beginning of the paper the aim of research is presented. Then the method is introduced. Next, the unmanned autonomous maritime vehicle is briefly described. The following chapter concerns a model of vehicle performance including the ballasting and motion. Some information on an integrated steering, positioning and stabilization system of the vehicle is briefly presented in the paper. Such the system enables to obtain a fully...

Simple SIR models with Markovian control
PublicationWe consider a random dynamical system, where the deterministic dynamics are driven by a finite-state space Markov chain. We provide a comprehensive introduction to the required mathematical apparatus and then turn to a special focus on the susceptible-infected-recovered epidemiological model with random steering. Through simulations we visualize the behaviour of the system and the effect of the high-frequency limit of the driving...

Robustified estimators of radar elevation angle using a specular multipath model
PublicationWe consider the problem of estimating the elevation angle in the presence of multipath. The proposed method belongs to the class of maximum likelihood-like estimators and employs a modified specular reflection model that accounts for the uncertainty of the steering vector by assuming that they are subject to unknown deterministic perturbations with bounded norms. The analysis, performed using convex optimization methods, allows...

Designing a ship course controller by applying the adaptivebackstepping method
PublicationThe article discusses the problem of designing a proper and efficient adaptive course-keeping control system for a seagoingship based on the adaptive backstepping method. The proposed controller in the design stage takes into account thedynamic properties of the steering gear and the full nonlinear static maneuvering characteristic. The adjustable parametersof the achieved nonlinear control structure were tuned up by using the...
