Rapid multi-objective design optimization of miniaturized impedance transformer by Pareto front exploration
PublicationFast multi-objective optimization of compact impedance transformer is discussed. A set of alternative designs representing possible trade-offs between conflicting design criteria, i.e., electrical performance (here, wideband matching) and the structure size, is obtained through Pareto front exploration by means of surrogate-assisted methods.

Cost-efficient multi-objective design optimization of antennas in highly-dimensional parameter spaces
PublicationMulti-objective optimization of antenna structures in highly-dimensional parameter spaces is investigated. For expedited design, variable-fidelity EM simulations and domain patching algorithm are utilized. The results obtained for a monopole antenna with 13 geometry parameters are compared with surrogate-assisted optimization involving response surface approximation modeling.

Application of the ‘CPT 2012’model of AFNOR standard for column design in Poland–Jazowa case study
Publicationhis paper presents the ‘CPT 2012’ model incorporated into the AFNOR NF P94-262:2012-07, French standard for pile design fully compatible with Eurocode 7, to the wider Polish audience. The bearing capacity of three reference columns for Vistula Marshlands have been calculated according to ‘CPT 2012’ model and AFNOR recommendations. Then, the design resistances have been compared with ultimate column bearing capacity measured during...

Nested Kriging with Variable Domain Thickness for Rapid Surrogate Modeling and Design Optimization of Antennas
PublicationDesign of modern antennas faces numerous difficulties, partially rooted in stringent specifications imposed on both electrical and field characteristics, demands concerning various functionalities (circular polarization, pattern diversity, band-notch operation), but also constraints imposed upon the physical size of the radiators. Conducting the design process at the level of full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations, otherwise...

Mechanical properties for preliminary design of structures made from PVC coated fabric
PublicationIn this paper, laboratory tests necessary for the identification of non-linear elastic immediate properties of the PVC coated polyester fabric (like AF 9032) are described. The material parameters are specified on the basis of the uniaxial tensile tests in the warp and weft directions as well as on the base of the biaxial tensile tests. For the identification process techniques based on the least squares method are used. The authors...

Fast Multi-Objective Antenna Design Through Variable-Fidelity EM Simulations
PublicationA technique for fast multi-objective antenna optimization is introduced. A kriging interpolation surrogate constructed from sampled coarse-mesh EM simulations is utilized by multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA) to obtain the initial Pareto front approximation. The surrogate is defined in a subset of the original design space, determined by means of independently optimized individual objectives. Response correction techniques...

Design, modelling and analysis of a new type of piezoelectric motor. Multicell piezoelectric motor
PublicationThis paper describes a new type of piezoelectric motor. The results, obtained in the field of piezoelectric motors, have pointed out that these motors have potentially high possibilities in the future special applications. The research work presents the design, simulations and parameters of the piezoelectric motor with three rotation-mode actuators. The motor is characterized by a high power, relative high speed and torque. The...

Process [Intellectual Output 2] Guidelines for a design process leading to a high-quality Baukultur in the digital age
PublicationThe main aim of the intellectual output “Process” is to identify, explore and evaluate new design processes for shaping the built environment, which are informed, collaborative, and adaptable, allow customization and are generally enabled by the application of digital tools. Further, it aims at creating methodological guidelines for future-oriented design processes leading to a high-quality Baukultur in the digital age. The guidelines...

Bulk linearized CMOS differential pair transconductor for continuous-time OTA-C filter design
PublicationIn this paper, the MOS differential pair driven simultaneously from gates and bulk terminals is described. An approximated analytical solution of the voltage to current transfer function has been found for the proposed circuit. Four possible combinations of gate and bulk connections of the input signal are presented. Basing on the configuration giving the best linearity, the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) has been designed...

A bisection‐based heuristic for rapid EM‐driven multiobjective design of compact impedance transformers
PublicationDesign of microwave structures is a multiobjective task where several conflicting requirements have to be considered at the same time. For contemporary circuits characterized by complex geometries, multiobjective optimization cannot be performed using standard population‐based algorithms due to high cost of electromagnetic (EM) evaluations. In this work, we propose a deterministic approach for fast EM‐driven multiobjective design...

Reduced-cost design closure of antennas by means of gradient search with restricted sensitivity update
PublicationDesign closure, i.e., adjustment of geometry parameters to boost the performance, is a challenging stage of antenna design process. Given complexity of contemporary structures, reliable parameter tuning requires numerical optimization and can be executed using local algorithms. Yet, EM-driven optimization is a computationally expensive endeavour and reducing its cost is highly desirable. In this paper, a modification of the trust-region...

Expedited Gradient-Based Design Closure of Antennas Using Variable-Resolution Simulations and Sparse Sensitivity Updates
PublicationNumerical optimization has been playing an increasingly important role in the design of contemporary antenna systems. Due to the shortage of design-ready theoretical models, optimization is mainly based on electromagnetic (EM) analysis, which tends to be costly. Numerous techniques have evolved to abate this cost, including surrogate-assisted frameworks for global optimization, or sparse sensitivity updates for speeding up local...

Design and Experiments of a Piezoelectric Motor Using Three Rotating Mode Actuators
PublicationThis paper represents a numerical and experimental investigation of the multicell piezoelectric motor. The proposed design consists of three individual cells that are integrated into the stator, double rotor, and a preload system combined into a symmetrical structure of the motor. Each of the cells is characterized by a traveling wave and rotating mode motor. A finite element numerical analysis is carried out to obtain optimal...

Exploring ontological approach for user requirements elicitation in design of online virtual agents
PublicationEffective user requirements elicitation is a key factor for the success of software development projects. There are many qualitative and quantitative research studies that promulgate particular methods and show the application of user requirements elicitation in particular domains. However, few try to eliminate the burden of ambiguity in gathered data, naturally occurring in different groups of stakeholders. This paper deals with...
