On the convergence of a nonlinear finite-difference discretization of the generalized Burgers–Fisher equation
PublicationIn this note, we establish analytically the convergence of a nonlinear finite-difference discretization of the generalized Burgers-Fisher equation. The existence and uniqueness of positive, bounded and monotone solutions for this scheme was recently established in [J. Diff. Eq. Appl. 19, 1907{1920 (2014)]. In the present work, we prove additionally that the method is convergent of order one in time, and of order two in space. Some...

Series Passive Compensation of Common Mode Voltage in Multilevel Inverter Drives
PublicationThis paper presents an approach to the problem of a magnetic saturation of CM chokes that accompanies the method of passive compensation of a common mode (CM) voltage in an inverter drive system. Measurements have been provided in a drive system including multilevel inverters and the filter having sinusoidal output voltages and zero CM voltage. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the problem with magnetic...

On the Handling of Outliers in the GNSS Time Series by Means of the Noise and Probability Analysis
PublicationThe data pre-analysis plays a significant role in the noise determination. The most important issue is to find an optimum criterion for outliers removal, since their existence can affect any further analysis. The noises in the GNSS time series are characterized by spectral index and amplitudes that can be determined with a few different methods. In this research, the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) was used. The noise amplitudes...

Do Judges’ Delegations Affect Judicial Performance? A Transition Economy Evidence
PublicationThe aim of this study is to discern whether, by delegating judges from the court to the Ministry of Justice, the Minister of Justice influences the results of courts in terms of adjudication. The study used a unique set of data for the Polish judicial system over a period of five years. The research results indicate that there are three reasons for delegating judges. Firstly, the delegation system serves to fill staff shortages...

Active Dynamic Thermography imaging of wound healing processes in cardio surgery
PublicationThe surgery is a branch of medicine, that is integrally connected to wounds. Despite using sterile tools and compliance with aseptic rolls, some of the surgery wounds become infected. In clinical practice there is a lack of cheap, objective methods and tools for quantitative definition and estimation of the surgery wound healing progress. This paper presents preliminary results of Active Dynamic Thermography (ADT) parametric imaging...

A Conformal Circularly Polarized Series-Fed Microstrip Antenna Array Design
PublicationA conformal circularly polarized series-fed microstrip array design for broadside radiation is presented. The array aperture under design is conformal to a cylindrical surface of a given radius. The approach we present primarily addresses focusing of the circularly polarized major lobe of the conformal array by proper dimensioning of the aperture spacings. The proposed analytical models yield the values of the element spacings...

Shaping of coherence function of sources used in low-coherent measurement techniques
PublicationW artykule przedstawiono zależność pomiędzy charakterystyką widmową źródła i ekwiwalentną długością drogi koherencji źródła. Wyniki analizy teoretycznej i symulacji komputerowych wykazały, że użycie źródła syntezowanego wpływa na zmniejszenie wartości ekwiwalentnej długości drogi koherencji. Dodatkowo wykazano, że zmniejszenie ekwiwalentnej długości drogi koherencji można otrzymać poprzez odpowiednie kształtowanie funkcji koherencji...

Modulation of polyene antibiotics self-association by ions from the hofmeister series

Shaping coherence function of sources used in low-coherent measurement techniques

Mercury in Living Organisms: Sources and Forms of Occurrence, Bioaccumulation, and Determination Methods
PublicationMercury (Hg) is a heavy metal with well-known and broadly tested toxicity. Since Hg pollution and its impacts on human health are of global concern, it has become necessary to develop analytical methodologies that will provide tools to obtain reliable analytical information about the levels of Hg in samples, which very often have a complex matrix composition. This chapter summarizes key information on Hg and its chemical forms,...

Single and Series of Multi-valued Decision Diagrams in Representation of Structure Function
PublicationStructure function, which defines dependency of performance of the system on performance of its components, is a key part of system description in reliability analysis. In this paper, we compare two approaches for representation of the structure function. The first one is based on use of a single Multi-valued Decision Diagram (MDD) and the second on use of a series of MDDs. The obtained results indicate that the series of MDDs...

Natural sweeteners: Sources, extraction and current uses in foods and food industries
PublicationFood producers have leaned towards alternative natural and synthetic sweeteners in food formulations to satisfy market demands. Even so, several synthetic sweeteners (e.g., aspartame, saccharin, sucralose) are becoming less popular due to health-related concerns, lower nutritional values, and controversies around their safety. Conversely, natural sweeteners confer favourable customer perceptions due to their association to a healthier...

A multirate approach to DDS algorithm versus Taylor-series expansion technique.
PublicationPokazano, że cyfrowy generator syntezy bezpośredniej (DDS) można traktować jako algorytm wieloszybkościowy. Rozważono i porównano dwa sposoby wykorzystania pamięci. W pierwszym z nich zastosowano filtr ułamkowo-opóźniający o strukturze Farrowa. Drugie podejście oparto na rotacji fazy na podstawie rozwinięcia w szereg Taylora. Eksperymenty pokazują, że za pomocą obu tych sposobów, dla sinusoidy zespolonej generowanej w kwadraturowym...
