Research on Linear Actuators for Active Foil Bearings
PublicationActive foil bearings are a kind of gas foil bearing. They contain actuators which allow for modification of the bearing sleeve size and the shape of the lubrication gap. Rotor vibrations can be actively controlled by these changes. It is possible, among other things, to reduce the starting torque, control the vibration amplitude at different speeds and improve operational safety. Prototypes of active foil bearings are being developed...

Recycling of Industrial Waste as Soil Binding Additives—Effects on Soil Mechanical and Hydraulic Properties during Its Stabilisation before Road Construction
PublicationTo improve the in situ soil stabilization, different chemical additives are used (ion exchange compounds, additives based on H2SO4 or vinyl polymers, and organic additives using lignosul- fonates). One interesting alternative is the production of additives from various waste materials. The extensive testing of waste-based blends with soil was performed; the mechanical (unconfined compressive strength (UCS)) and hydraulic (capillary...

Determination of 3-MCPD and 2-MCPD esters in edible oils, fish oils and lipid fractions of margarines available on Polish market
Publication3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) and 2-monochloropropane-1,3-diol (2-MCPD) are intensively investigated food contaminants, which recently emerged as a serious problem within the discovery of high levels of their fatty acid esters in lipid samples. In order to monitor the concentrations of mentioned toxicants in edible oils and fats, several analytical methods have been developed so far. This paper presents the screening research...

Validated HPTLC method for determination of ledol and alloaromadendrene in the essential oil fractions of Rhododendron tomentosum plants and in vitro cultures and bioautography for their activity screening
PublicationRhododendron tomentosum (Ledum palustre) is a bog shrub used in traditional medicine for treatment of respiratory and rheumatic diseases. Due to the large variability of the chemical composition of its essential oil, depending on the habitat, the in vitro cultures were established as the alternative source of the volatile fraction. There is a need to monitor a quality of the field grown as well as in vitro plant material, especially...

LDFEM analysis of FDP auger installation in cohesive soil
PublicationThis paper deals with large deformation finite element (LDFE) preliminary modelling of Full Displacement Pile (FDP) installation in cohesive soil deposit located in Jazowa, Poland. The detailed FDP auger geometry is applied and the drilling process is modelled with full 3D Coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) formulation. The total stress approach and elastic-perfectly plastic model with rate-dependent Mises plasticity is used. The...

The influence of the UV irradiation on degradation of virgin rapeseed oils
PublicationThis paper presents research which is a continuation of the investigations described earlier. The aim of these studies was to determine the influence of UV irradiation on flavor and the oxidative stability of different rapeseed oils varieties. For the purpose of this study, oil samples underwent accelerated deterioration for 4.5 h under a UV light test. In the obtained sample, characteristic values (peroxide (PV, 1.23–1.62 meq...

Geotechnical characterization of soft soil deposits in Northern Poland
PublicationThis paper presents a geotechnical characterization of deltaic soft soil deposits in the Vistula Marshlands, northern Poland. It shows the limited applicability of organic soil classifications based on Cone Penetration Tests (CPTU) and Dilatometer Tests (DMT). None of the in-situ-based classifications correctly identifies peat. Analysis of the behaviour of contractive/dilative soil layers according to Robertson's updated classification...

Experimental tests for the determination of mechanical properties of PVC foil
PublicationThe paper presents an application of the PVC film in civil engineering. Mechanical behaviour of the PVC film applied for suspended ceilings, in the form of a stretch ceiling is investigated under uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests. The study is focused on the determination of mechanical properties from experimental data (uniaxial and biaxial tensile tests). The uniaxial cyclic tests are performed in order to observe a variation...

Preparation of soil and sediment samples for the determination of organometallic compounds

Analysis of Excavation-induced Deformation with Different Soil Models
PublicationMonitorowany wykop budowlany w centrum Warszawy poddano symulacjom numerycznym z wykorzystaniem metody elementów skończonych. Wykop zrealizowany został w pre-konsolidowanych utworach spoistych z zastosowaniem ścian szczelinowych i metody stropowej. Szczególnie ważny w symulacjach tego rodzaju zagadnień jest wybór modelu zachowania się gruntu w warunkach małych odkształceń przed osiągnięciem zniszczenia. Opis aktualnej sztywności...

Nonlinear and fluctuation phenomena as reliability predictors for foil capacitors

Quality prediction of foil capacitors by acoustic emission signals
