ARCHITECTURE IN BRANDING AND OVERBRANDING PROCESS. HOW GLOBALIZATION INFLUENCED ARCHITECTURE QUALITY.
PublikacjaGlobalization is unification. In the field of architecture and in the social structure alike, the globalization leads to a blending of economies and cultures that produces uniformly branded public space as a response to universal assumptions of integration and correlation. While branding consists in creating a recognizable and outstanding image a strong contradiction exists between both of these approaches. As a result, regional...

Barcelona - from the province to Metropolis. The cogent strategy of branding the city
PublikacjaThe phenomenon of rebranding Barcelona's image, called the Barcelona effect or 'Barcelona Model', is exampled as one of the most spectacular transformations of the city perception in the last decade. Why has Barcelona been successful? Is it the effect of the recently intensified revitalization practice, or has the city of Barcelona built its brand market value for years? The aim of the research is to name these transition...

Thermal Images Analysis Methods using Deep Learning Techniques for the Needs of Remote Medical Diagnostics
PublikacjaRemote medical diagnostic solutions have recently gained more importance due to global demographic shifts and play a key role in evaluation of health status during epidemic. Contactless estimation of vital signs with image processing techniques is especially important since it allows for obtaining health status without the use of additional sensors. Thermography enables us to reveal additional details, imperceptible in images acquired...

Three-dimensional printed trachea helps to design tailored treatment for tracheobronchomalacia
PublikacjaTracheobronchomalacia is a rare respiratory disease that is manifesting by impaired ventilation with expiratory collapse of the tracheal wall due to softening of the supporting cartilage and hypotonia of myoelastic elements [1]. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment. We report the case of 39 -year old man with exacerbation of chronic respiratory distress. The membranous wall of the trachea and the large bronchi was stretched to...

A new diagnostic method for evaluation of cardiosurgery wound healing
PublikacjaOne of important and still unsolved problems in medicine is the question of objective and quantitative evaluation of post-surgery wound healing. The aim of this research is to analyse possibility and value of using the newly elaborated infrared imaging procedure – Active Dynamic Thermography (ADT) – for quantitative description of wound healing processes in cardiosurgery. Both, classical thermal figures of merit as well as ADT...

Constructive Controllability for Incompressible Vector Fields
PublikacjaWe give a constructive proof of a global controllability result for an autonomous system of ODEs guided by bounded locally Lipschitz and divergence free (i.e. incompressible) vector field, when the phase space is the whole Euclidean space and the vector field satisfies so-called vanishing mean drift condition. For the case when the ODE is defined over some smooth compact connected Riemannian manifold, we significantly strengthen...

Numerical investigation of the core eccentricity effect on wave propagation in embedded waveguide
PublikacjaThe paper presents results of theoretical and numerical investigation of guided wave propagation in two-layer bars with geometric imperfections in the form of eccentric location of steel core. Steel rod of diameter equal to 1 cm embedded in composite mortar-type cover with external diameter equal to 5 cm has been taken into consideration. Several different rods with variable size of eccentricity are analysed. Results for rods with...

Znaczenie płci w procesie zakupu marek własnych sieci handlowych – analiza wielogrupowa
PublikacjaThe purpose of the article is to analyze the differences in the behavior of men and women in the process of purchasing store brands (SBs). Using an established conceptual model, we intended to identify differences, depending on gender of buyers, in the size of the effects of store image and brand price-image on perceived risk and subsequently on store brand purchase intention. A total of 652 respondents participated in the study....

From Linear Classifier to Convolutional Neural Network for Hand Pose Recognition
PublikacjaRecently gathered image datasets and the new capabilities of high-performance computing systems have allowed developing new artificial neural network models and training algorithms. Using the new machine learning models, computer vision tasks can be accomplished based on the raw values of image pixels instead of specific features. The principle of operation of deep neural networks resembles more and more what we believe to be happening...

Using Eye-tracking to get information on the skills acquisition by the radiology residents
PublikacjaThis paper describes the possibility of monitoring the progress of knowledge and skills acquisition by the students of radiology. It is achieved by an analysis of a visual attention distribution patterns during image-based tasks solving. The concept is to use the eye-tracking data to recognize the way how the radiographic images are read by recognized experts, radiography residents involved in the training program, and untrained...

In-ADC, Rank-Order Filter for Digital Pixel Sensors
PublikacjaThis paper presents a new implementation of the rank-order filter, which is established on a parallel-operated array of single-slope (SS) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The SS ADCs use an “on-the-ramp processing” technique, i.e., filtration is performed along with analog-to-digital conversion, so the final states of the converters represent a filtered image. A proof-of-concept 64 × 64 array of SS ADCs, integrated with MOS...

Tome-lapse X-ray tomography imaging of flow patterns in versatile silo model
PublikacjaThe paper introduces a new versatile silo model that was especially designed for in situ X-ray tomography studies of silo discharge for various flow conditions, namely concentric and eccentric. The presented work focuses on organic granular materials where low fraction of short-grain white rice is mixed with spheroidal sorghum particles. The high-quality tomography images combined with adequate image processing strategy allows...

Objects classification based on their physical sizes for detection of events in camera images
PublikacjaIn the paper, a method of estimation of the physical sizes of the objects tracked in the video surveillance system, and a simple module for object classification based on the estimated physical sizes, are presented. The results of object classification are then used for automatic detection of various types of events in the camera image.

Pose-Configurable Generic Tracking of Elongated Objects
PublikacjaElongated objects have various shapes and can shift, rotate, change scale, and be rigid or deform by flexing, articulating, and vibrating, with examples as varied as a glass bottle, a robotic arm, a surgical suture, a finger pair, a tram, and a guitar string. This generally makes tracking of poses of elongated objects very challenging. We describe a unified, configurable framework for tracking the pose of elongated objects, which...

BJS-03 DO WE NEED FIXATION OF THE MESH IN LAPAROENDOSCOPIC TECHNIQUES FOR M3 INGUINAL DEFECTS? AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY
PublikacjaThe authors conducted a research experiment to verify the hypothesis that it is possible to preserve the mesh in the operating field in large direct hernias (M3) without the need to use fixing materials. The results showed that mesh fixation is not the only alternative to preventing recurrence in complex defects and that the type of implant seems to be a key factor from the point of view of mechanics and biophysics.
