Price convergence in the European Union and in the new member states
PublikacjaThis paper examines price dispersion in the European Union (EU15) and in three New Member States (Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic) between 1995 and 2006. The analysis utilizes both disaggregate and aggregate price data, including the prices of 157 products and two indices constructed using two different weighting procedures. For each category of goods the price dispersion is lower in EU15 than EU15 plus 3 NMS. Sigma convergence...

EU Enlargement and Labour Demand in the New Member States
PublikacjaResearch to date on labour market responses to EU integration has tended to concentrate on the labour markets of the 'old' EU members. But what effects has the integration of trade had on wages in the new member states? The following article attempts to answer this question using and empirical model of conditional labour demand.

Shales Leaching Modelling for Prediction of Flowback Fluid Composition
PublikacjaThe object of the paper is the prediction of flowback fluid composition at a laboratory scale, for which a new approach is described. The authors define leaching as a flowback fluid generation related to the shale processing. In the first step shale rock was characterized using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray diractometry and laboratory analysis. It was proven that shale rock samples taken from the selected sections of horizontal...

The role of traditional architectural models in the first stages of education.
PublikacjaThe oldest architectural models discovered by scientists date from the Middle Ages, while models or 1:1 scale prototypes were used in ancient times. Architectural miniatures quickly evolved into an indispensable tool for designers that enabled them to creatively express their thoughts and ideas. Mock-ups became a way of helping a designer communicate a concept, and their educational value was also recognised. The method of modelling,...

Superexcited states in the vacuum-ultraviolet photofragmentation of isoxazole molecules
PublikacjaThe photofragmentation of isoxazole molecules producing excited atomic and molecular fragments has been investigated over the energy range 16-50 eV, using photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The following fragments have been identified by their fluorescence: the excited hydrogen atoms H(n), n = 3-7 and the diatomic CH(A2Δ, B2Σ−), CN(B2Σ+) and C2(d3Πg) fragments. The diatomic fragments are vibrationally and highly rotationally...

Electronic states of tetrahydrofuran molecules studied by electron collisions
PublikacjaElectronic states of tetrahydrofuran molecules were studied in the excitation energy range 5.5-10 eV using the technique of electron energy loss spectroscopy in the gas phase. Excitation from the two conformations, C2 and Cs, of the ground state of the molecule are observed in the measured energy loss spectra. The vertical excitation energies of the 3(no3s) triplet state from the C2 and Cs conformations of the ground state of the...

Local hidden–variable models for entangled quantum states
PublikacjaWhile entanglement and violation of Bell inequalities were initially thought to be equivalent quantum phenomena, we now have different examples of entangled states whose correlations can be described by local hidden-variable models and, therefore, do not violate any of the Bell inequalities. We provide an up-to-date overview of the existing literature regarding local hidden-variable models for entangled quantum states, in both...

Stochastic equivalence scales in log-normal distributions of expenditures
PublikacjaIn the paper, the properties of the stochastic equivalence scales (SES) are analysed when expenditure distributions are log-normal. The SES provides the equivalent distribution of expenditures when the population of households is heterogeneous with respect to such attributes as household size, demographic cpmposition, etc. For log-normal expenditure distributions, the non-parametric SES deflators are proportional to the ration...

Nonstandard Equivalence Scales and their Applications for European Union Countries
PublikacjaThe aim of this study is twofold. First, we propose new methods of estimating equivalence scales. We call these methods nonstandard to distinguish them from the standard procedures based on the microeconomic theory of demand systems. Searching for the ‘as simple as possible’ method has been a leitmotiv of this study. Second, we estimate various forms of equivalence scales for 28 European Union (EU) member countries and four non-member...

Early Stages of RNA-Mediated Conversion of Human Prions
PublikacjaPrion diseases are characterized by the conversion of prion proteins from a PrPC fold into a disease-causing PrPSC form that is self-replicating. A possible agent to trigger this conversion is polyadenosine RNA, but both mechanism and pathways of the conversion are poorly understood. Using coarse-grained molecular dynamic simulations we study the time evolution of PrPC over 600 μs. We find that both the D178N mutation and interacting...

Direct measurement of nonlinear properties of bipartite quantum states
Wyciągamy nielokalną i nieliniową wielkość, mianowicie entropię Renyi, z lokalnych pomiarów dwóch par fotonów splątanych polaryzacyjnie.

The Palais–Smale condition for the Hamiltonian action on a mixed regularity space of loops in cotangent bundles and applications
PublikacjaWe show that the Hamiltonian action satisfies the Palais-Smale condition over a “mixed regular- ity” space of loops in cotangent bundles, namely the space of loops with regularity H^s, s ∈ (1/2, 1), in the baseand H^{1−s} in the fiber direction. As an application, we give a simplified proof of a theorem of Hofer-Viterbo on the existence of closed characteristic leaves for certain contact type hypersufaces in cotangent bundles.

Mountain pass type periodic solutions for Euler–Lagrange equations in anisotropic Orlicz–Sobolev space
PublikacjaUsing the Mountain Pass Theorem, we establish the existence of periodic solution for Euler–Lagrange equation. Lagrangian consists of kinetic part (an anisotropic G-function), potential part and a forcing term. We consider two situations: G satisfying at infinity and globally. We give conditions on the growth of the potential near zero for both situations.

Accelerated simulation-driven design optimisation of compact couplers by means of two-level space mapping
PublikacjaIn this study, the authors discuss a robust and efficient technique for rapid design of compact couplers. The approach exploits two-level space mapping (SM) correction of an equivalent circuit model of the coupler structure under design. The first SM layer (local correction) is utilised to ensure good matching between the equivalent circuit and the electromagnetic model at the component level. Subsequent global correction allows...
