Application of Diagnostic Ratios of PAHs to Characterize the Pollution Emission Sources
PublicationThe paper summarizes the potential of application of parent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to identify their emission sources. Four parent PAHs diagnostic ratios are used for this purpose: anthracene/(anthracene + phenanthrene), fluoranthene/(fluoranthene + pyrene), benzo[a]pyrene/(benzo[a]pyrene + chryzene) and indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene/(indeno[1,2,3-c,d]pyrene + benzo[g,h,i]perylene). The compounds of each ratio have the...

Correlated Particle Motion and THz Spectral Response of Supercritical Water
PublicationMolecular dynamics simulations of supercritical water reveal distinctly different distance-dependent modulations of dipolar response and correlations in particle motion compared to ambient conditions. The strongly perturbed H-bond network of water at supercritical conditions allows for considerable translationaland rotational freedom of individual molecules. These changes give rise to substantially different infrared spectra and...

A method to monitor urinary carbon dioxide in patients with septic shock
PublicationSevere sepsis and septic shock are life-threatening conditions with mortality rates exceeding 31% (Levy et al., 2012) [1]. Septicemia was the most expensive US hospital condition in 2011 (Torio and Andrews, 2006)[2]. Urinary carbon dioxide may provide rapid, clinically useful information about a patient’s status, empowering physicians to intervene earlier and improve septic shock mortality. The objective of this paper is to validate...

Analytical studies of spectrum broadcast structures in quantum Brownian motion
PublicationSpectrum broadcast structures are a new and fresh concept in the quantum-to-classical transition, introduced recently in the context of decoherence and the appearance of objective features in quantum mechanics. These are specific quantum state structures, responsible for the objectivization of the decohered state of a system. Recently, they have been demonstrated by means of the well-known quantum Brownian motion model of the recoilless...

Smart grid technologies in electric traction: Mini inverter station
PublicationThe growing number of trams and trolleybuses equipped with recuperation systems contribute to the increase in the amount of energy recovered during braking. It raises questions about the possibility of its usage. One of such possibilities is the use of smart grid technology. Practical application of in motion charging: Trolleybuses service on bus lines
PublicationNight charging and fast charging are currently the two most common systems for charging electric buses. Despite the fact that numerous trial installations were started, neither of these two systems has obtained unqualified approval of the users. Formation of carbon monoxide by radiative association: a quantum dynamical study
PublicationRate coefficients for the formation of carbon monoxide (CO) by radiative association of carbon and oxygen atoms are computed using quantum dynamical simulations. At temperatures above 10 K CO radiative association is dominated by C(3P) and O(3P) approaching on the A1Π potential energy curve. The rate coefficient is estimated as k=A(T/300 K)αexp−β/T with A= 1.39 × 10−18 cm3 s−1, α=−0.016 and β= 92.2 for temperatures between 6 and...

Contribution to the mechanism of liquid membrane oscillators involving cationic surfactant.
PublicationIt is shown that liquid membrane oscillators with cationic surfactants havemore complex oscillation patterns than observed previously. The actual details of the oscillations depend strongly on the nature of the membrane material, dislosing even the presence of parallel molecular events. It appearsthat sampling topology also has a great influence on the observed oscillato-ry behaviour. Variation of oscillation patterns with...
