Polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography for ceramic materials inspection
PublikacjaCeramics production is looking for a fast, reliable and non-destructive method that can be implemented on site for defect detection and analysis. In this paper we present polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) as a method for defect inspection. Proposed extensions to standard OCT provide additional information for complete characterization of tested object. We compare OCT and microscope imaging that can easily...

The effect of surfactants mixtures composition on wetting of different solid materials
PublikacjaThe wetting properties of surfactants mixtures were investigated. Three types of compounds were used: nonionic gemini α, α'-[2,4,7,9-tetramethyl-5-decyne-4,7-diyl]bis[ω-hydroxyl-olioxyethylene] (S-10), anionic sodium dodecyl sulphates (SDS) and cationic dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB). The materials used in wetting experiments were steel and methyl polymethacrylate. These materials differ...

Formation of Porous Structure of the Metallic Materials Used on Bone Implants
PublikacjaResearch on improvement of structure and fabrication methods of the bone implants are carried out for many years. Research are aimed to shape the structures, that will have a Young's modulus value similar to the value of the human bones Young's modulus. Depending on theporosity, Young's moduli can even be tailored to match the modulus of bone closer than solid metals can, thus reducing the problems associated with stress shielding...

Application of different modes of nanoscale impedance microscopy in materials research
PublikacjaIn recent years, there is noticeable interest in application of various types of scanning probe microscopy in material science research. One of them is contact atomic force microscopy combined with local impedance measurements, known as nanoscale impedance microscopy. Literature references present its application in investigations of new materials, microelectronics diagnostics, or research of protective coatings performance. In...

Chitosan, Collagen and Gelatin in the design of novel materials with antimicrobial acticity
PublikacjaMedical devices containing and releasing antiinfective agents directly on the site of injury are a common group of materials available and widely used in treating difficult to heal wounds. Sustained contact of the active agent to the damaged tissue, needed to inhibit infection and preservation of microbiological purity of the wound, is provided by the immobilization antimicrobial agents on the surface of the matrix material or...

Photovoltaic module temperature stabilization with the use of phase change materials
PublikacjaThe worldwide growth of photovoltaics (PVs) has formed an exponential curve for more than four decades. During this period of time, PVs have evolved from a pure niche market of small-scale applications towards becoming a mainstream electricity source. The influence of temperature on the electrical parameters of crystalline silicon solar cells and solar modules is well described in the literature. In order to diminish these effects,...

Novel Class of Proton Conducting Materials—High Entropy Oxides
PublikacjaHere, for the first time, we present data on proton conductivity of high-entropy, single-phase perovskites. The BaZr0.2Sn0.2Ti0.2Hf0.2Ce0.2O3−δ, BaZr0.2Sn0.2Ti0.2Hf0.2Y0.2O3−δ, BaZr1/7Sn1/7Ti1/7Hf1/7Ce1/7Nb1/7Y1/7O3−δ, and BaZr0.15Sn0.15Ti0.15Hf0.15Ce0.15Nb0.15Y0.10O3−δ single-phase perovskites were synthesized. Before electrical measurements, materials were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy...

Novel MNZ-type microwave sensor for testing magnetodielectric materials
PublikacjaA novel microwave sensor with the mu-near-zero (MNZ) property is proposed for testing magnetodielectric material at 4.5 GHz. The sensor has a double-layer design consisting of a microstrip line and a metal strip with vias on layers 1 and 2, respectively. The proposed sensor can detect a unit change in relative permittivity and relative permeability with a difference in the operating frequency of 45 MHz and 78 MHz, respectively....

New kagome prototype materials: discovery of KV3Sb5, RbV3Sb5, and CsV3Sb5
PublikacjaIn this work, we present our discovery and characterization of a new kagome prototype structure, KV3Sb5. We also present the discovery of the isostructural compounds RbV3Sb5 and CsV3Sb5. All materials exhibit a structurally perfect two-dimensional kagome net of vanadium. Density-functional theory calculations indicate that the materials are metallic, with the Fermi level in close proximity to several Dirac points. Powder and single-crystal...

On the material symmetry group for micromorphic media with applications to granular materials
PublikacjaWithin the framework of the theory of nonlinear elastic micromorphic continua we introduce the new definition of the local material symmetry group. The group consists of ordered triples of second- and third-order tensors describing such changes of a reference placement that cannot be recognized with any experiment. Using the definition we characterize the micromorphic isotropic media, micromorphic fluids, solids and special intermediate...

A method of determination of electrical conduction mechanisms in complex amorphous materials
PublikacjaA novel approach to determine conduction mechanisms in complex amorphous materials was presented and tested on a real system. In the first step of the presented method, total electrical admittance of the material is analyzed in order to separate a couple of processes, each of which can be described by Jonscher's universal dielectric response. In the following step, a temperature dependence of dielectric response parameters of the...

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MATERIALS IN ARCHITECTURE MODERN TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENT DIRECTIONS
PublikacjaFor a long time the interest in environmentally friendly materials in architecture is no longer limited to the use of renewable and natural substances such as wood, stone, straw, or reusable materials, such as metals or glass. Today the so-called naturals and the materials compatible with the idea of sustainability constantly appear on the market in new forms. Increasing awareness of the necessity to limit the building sector’s...
