Comparison of numerical models of impact force for simulation of earthquake-induced structural pounding
PublikacjaW artykule przedstawiono porównanie trzech modeli numerycznych służących do symulacji siły zderzenia w czasie kontaktu pomiędzy konstrukcjami budowlanymi podczas trzęsień ziemi. Efektywność każdego z modeli zbadano porównując wyniki analiz numerycznych z wynikami badań eksperymentalnych. Wyniki pracy pokazują, iż nieliniowy model lepkosprężysty najdokładniej symuluje przebieg czasowy siły zderzenia w czasie kontaktu.

Formation of the hollow nanopillar arrays through the laser-induced transformation of TiO2 nanotubes
PublikacjaIn the following article, we present a simple, two-step method of creating spaced, hollow nanopillars, from the titania nanotube arrays via pulsed laser-treatment. Due to the high ordering of the structure, the prepared material exhibits photonic properties, which has been shown to increase the overall photoefficiency. The optical and morphological changes in the titania nanotubes after pulsed laser-treatment with 532, 355, and...

Earthquake–induced pounding on response of adjacent structures in series: experimental and numerical study
PublikacjaPounding between structures in series during earthquakes may cause serious damage in the structur-al elements. The aim of this paper is to show the results of an experimental and numerical study that is focused on pounding between more than two structures which may be called "structures in series". In this study, the shaking table experiments, as well as the numerical analyses, were performed using three tower models including...

VIBRATION PROBLEMS OF AN EXAMPLE OF TEMPORARY STEEL GRANDSTAND UNDER HUMAN-INDUCED EXCITATION
PublikacjaLighter and slender structural members of a typical grandstand leads to a significant reduction in the frequencies, that is why such structures are more easily induced to vibrations. The aim of the present paper is to show the results of our experimental studies and the numerical analyses, focused on the behaviour of a part of a typical temporary steel grandstand under dynamic loads. The peak values of accelerations of a steel...

Collision-induced luminescence spectra of pyridine bombarded by 1000 eV He+ cations
PublikacjaHere we show collision-induced luminescence spectra measured for collisions of the He+cations with thearomatic six-membered ring of the pyridine molecule (C5H5N). Distinct emission bands due to the CH(A2Δ→X2Πr;B2Σ+→X2Πr;C2Σ+→X2Πr), CN(B2Σ+→X2Σ+), C2(d3Πg→a3Πu), and NH(A3Π→X3Σ−) transitions, aswell as atomic H, He, and C lines have been observed. Apart from the He atoms, all the emitters arise from thefragmentation of the pyridine...

Nonlinear numerical simulation of earthquake-induced pounding between timber frame buildings
PublikacjaEarthquakes may induce serious dynamic loads acting on buildings, which can lead to damage or even destruction of the whole structure. In densely populated areas, it is quite common that buildings are located very close one to another which can result in pounding between them during ground motions. Due to the environmental awareness, multi-story timber frame buildings are gaining popularity and therefore there is a need to investigate...

A SEARCH OF AN INDUCER GEOMETRY THAT IS BENEFICIAL FOR LIFTING PARAMETERS OF A LIFTED OBJECT OF A SELECTED SHAPE
PublikacjaThe literature describes acoustic levitation phenomena with the utilization of air squeeze film between the vibrating inducer and the lifted object. The objective of the study is to determine the shape of the inducer with vibration characteristics that would allow the levitation of an object of the assumed geometry. In this paper, the influence of the dimension ratio of the inducer on the frequency of the first mode of vibration...

A Proposed Machine Learning Model for Forecasting Impact of Traffic-Induced Vibrations on Buildings
PublikacjaTraffic-induced vibrations may cause various damages to buildings located near the road, including cracking of plaster, cracks in load-bearing elements or even collapse of the whole structure. Measurements of vibrations of real buildings are costly and laborious. Therefore the aim of the research is to propose the original numerical algorithm which allows us to predict, with high probability, the nega-tive dynamic impact of traffic-induced...

Highly Dissipative Materials for Damage Protection against Earthquake-Induced Structural Pounding
PublikacjaIt is a common situation that seismic excitations may lead to collisions between adjacent civil engineering structures. This phenomenon, called earthquake-induced structural pounding, may result in serious damage or even the total collapse of the colliding structures. Filling the gap between two buildings erected close to one another by using visco-elastic materials can be considered to be one of the most effective methods to avoid...

Effective Formula for Impact Damping Ratio for Simulation of Earthquake-induced Structural Pounding
PublikacjaStructural pounding during earthquakes may cause substantial damage to colliding structures. The phenomenon is numerically studied using different models of collisions. The aim of the present paper is to propose an effective formula for the impact damping ratio, as a parameter of the impact force model used to study different problems of structural pounding under seismic excitations. Its accuracy has been verified by four various...

Mechanisms of Damage to DNA Labeled with Electrophilic Nucleobases Induced by Ionizing or UV Radiation
PublikacjaHypoxia—a hallmark of solid tumors—makes hypoxic cells radioresistant. On the other hand, DNA, the main target of anticancer therapy, is not sensitive to the near UV photons and hydrated electrons, one of the major products of water radiolysis under hypoxic conditions. A possible way to overcome these obstacles to the efficient radio- and photodynamic therapy of cancer is to sensitize the cellular DNA to electrons and/or ultraviolet...

Predicting the impact of traffic–induced vibrations on buildings using artificial neural networks
PublikacjaTraffic–induced vibrations may constitute a considerable load to a building, cause cracking of plaster, cracks in load–bearing elements or even a global structural collapse of the whole structure [1-4]. Vibrations measurements of real structures are costly and laborious, not justified in all cases. The aim of the paper is to create an original algorithm, to predict the negative dynamic impact on the examined residential building...

Modelling tunnelling-induced deformation in stiff soils with a hyperelastic–plastic anisotropic model
PublikacjaIn this paper, the tunnelling-induced deformation in anisotropic stiff soils is analysed using FE modelling. The influence of material description is investigated rather than an advanced simulation of the tunnelling method. A new hyperelastic– plastic model is proposed to describe the anisotropic mechanical behaviour of stiff highly overconsolidated soil. This model can reproduce the superposition of variable stress-induced anisotropy...
