Positive solutions to advanced fractional differential equations with nonlocal boundary conditions
PublicationWe study the existence of positive solutions for a class of higher order fractional differential equations with advanced arguments and boundary value problems involving Stieltjes integral conditions. The fixed point theorem due to Avery-Peterson is used to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of multiple positive solutions. Certain of our results improve on recent work in the literature.

Systems, environments, and soliton rate equations: A non-Kolmogorovian framework for population dynamics
PublicationSoliton rate equations are based on non-Kolmogorovian models of probability and naturally include autocatalytic processes. The formalism is not widely known but has great unexplored potential for applications to systems interacting with environments. Beginning with links of contextuality to non- Kolmogorovity we introduce the general formalism of soliton rate equations and work out explicit examples of subsystems interacting with...

The Snow Team Problem
PublicationWe study several problems of clearing subgraphs by mobile agents in digraphs. The agents can move only along directed walks of a digraph and, depending on the variant, their initial positions may be pre-specified. In general, for a given subset~$\cS$ of vertices of a digraph $D$ and a positive integer $k$, the objective is to determine whether there is a subgraph $H=(\cV_H,\cA_H)$ of $D$ such that (a) $\cS \subseteq \cV_H$, (b)...

Novel Nonlinear High Order Technologies for Damage Diagnosis of Complex Assets
PublicationFor the first time worldwide, innovative techniques, generic non-linear higher-order unnormalized cross-correlations of spectral moduli, for the diagnosis of complex assets, are proposed. The normalization of the proposed techniques is based on the absolute central moments, that have been proposed and widely investigated in mathematical works. The existing higher-order, crosscovariances of complex spectral components are not sufficiently...

Two-criteria optimisation problem for ventral hernia repair
PublicationTwo-criteria optimisation problem related to laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is formulated in this paper. An optimal implant from a given set and its orientation is sought. The implant is subjected to kinematic extortions due to a patient’s body movement and intra-abdominal pressure. The first criterion of the optimisation problem deals with the reaction force in the implant fastener, while the deflection of the implant constitutes...

Evolutionary Sets of Safe Ship Trajectories: problem dedicated operators
PublicationThe paper presents the optimization process of the evolutionary sets of safe ship trajectories method, with a focus on its problem-dedicated operators. The method utilizes a customized evolutionary algorithm to solve a constrained optimization problem. This problem is defined as finding a set of cooperating trajectories (a set is an evolutionary individual) of all the ships involved in the encounter situation. The resulting trajectories...

Generalized Einstein relation in disordered organic semiconductors: Influence of the acoustic phonons–charge carriers scattering
PublicationIn this work, we analyze the generalized Einstein relation for disordered organic semiconductors with a non-equilibrium Druyvesteyn-type distribution function. The Druyvesteyn behavior of hot electrons in a solid state is associated with the acoustic phonons–charge carriers scattering. Such a case has been experimentally demonstrated in electroluminescent inorganic rare–earth–doped zinc chalcogenides. Therefore, we can assume that,...

Convergence of Monte Carlo algorithm for solving integral equations in light scattering simulations
PublicationThe light scattering process can be modeled mathematically using the Fredholm integral equation. This equation is usually solved after its discretization and transformation into the system of algebraic equations. Volume integral equations can be also solved without discretization using the Monte Carlo (MC) algorithm, but its application to the light scattering simulations has not been sufficiently studied. Here we present implementation...

A construction for the hat problem on a directed graph
PublicationA team of n players plays the following game. After a strategy session, each player is randomly fitted with a blue or red hat. Then, without further communication, everybody can try to guess simultaneously his own hat color by looking at the hat colors of the other players. Visibility is defined by a directed graph; that is, vertices correspond to players, and a player can see each player to whom he is connected by an arc. The...

The application of TD-GC-FID technique for production of matrix-free reference materials
PublicationIn the last few years particular pressure is exerted on finding new analytical methods which would provide real possibilities of monitoring and control of the state of the environment. Intensive development of analytical techniques for measurements of gaseous media and the negative effects of BTX compounds make it necessary to produce new gaseous reference materials. To prepare the appropriate non- matrix reference material thermal...

Complex Root Finding Algorithm Based on Delaunay Triangulation
PublicationA simple and flexible algorithm for finding zeros of a complex function is presented. An arbitrary-shaped search region can be considered and a very wide class of functions can be analyzed, including those containing singular points or even branch cuts. The proposed technique is based on sampling the function at nodes of a regular or a self-adaptive mesh and on the analysis of the function sign changes. As a result, a set of candidate points...

The multilayered body is treated as an equivalent single layer whose kinematics is consistent with first order shear deformation theory. The authors focus on the thermo-elastic stability problem of the thin-walled structures. The equilibrium paths are traced with the use of Riks-Wempner-Ramm algorithm. By making use of the Tsai-Wu...

Comparing Arbitrary Unrooted Phylogenetic Trees Using Generalized Matching Split Distance
PublicationIn the paper, we describe a method for comparing arbitrary, not necessary fully resolved, unrooted phylogenetic trees. Proposed method is based on finding a minimum weight matching in bipartite graphs and can be regarded as a generalization of well-known Robinson-Foulds distance. We present some properties and advantages of the new distance. We also investigate some properties of presented distance in a common biological problem...

The case when a unique solution exists is also investigated. Some examples are given to illustrate...

Study on polymer elements for mitigation of earthquake-induced pounding between buildings in complex arrangements
PublicationPounding between neighbouring buildings during earthquakes has been identified as one of the reasons for substantial damage or even total collapse of colliding structures, so it has been the subject of numerous studies in the recent years. A major reason leading to interactions between adjacent, insufficiently separated structures results from the differences in their dynamic properties. The problem is much more complicated for...
