Systems of Nonlinear Fractional Differential Equations
PublicationUsing the iterative method, this paper investigates the existence of a unique solution to systems of nonlinear fractional differential equations, which involve the right-handed Riemann-Liouville fractional derivatives D(T)(q)x and D(T)(q)y. Systems of linear fractional differential equations are also discussed. Two examples are added to illustrate the results.

Spectral Analysis of Capital Markets
PublicationIn this paper the problem of cycles existence in capital markets is addressed. A spectral analysis algorithm, which reduces signal-to-noise ratio, is proposed to derive cycle periodograms for the yield function of DJIA, WIG~20, and NIKKEI 225 indices. Peaks of the the periodograms provide premises to postulate the existence of some possible cycles. The 3.5 year periodicity in all 3 indices, which can be related to Kitchin cycle...

One-dimensional chaos in a system with dry friction: analytical approach
PublicationWe introduce a new analytical method, which allows to find chaotic regimes in non-smooth dynamical systems. A simple mechanical system consisting of a mass and a dry friction element is considered. The corresponding mathematical model is being studied. We show that the considered dynamical system is a skew product over a piecewise smooth mapping of a segment (the so-called base map). For this base map we demonstrate existence of...

The Implementation of the Taxonomic Spatial Measure of Development in the Analysis of Convergence in the Standard of Living
PublicationThe main goal of this paper is to analyse the existence of the social convergence in the European Union between 19952012. The social convergence refers to a reduction in the dispersion of the standard of living across countries. A taxonomic spatial measure of development was used as the standard of living approximation. The use of the new approach proposed by E. Antczak allowed for an explanation of the disparities in the analysed...

Revealing the Frank–Evans “Iceberg” Structures within the Solvation Layer around Hydrophobic Solutes
PublicationUsing computer simulations, the structural properties of solvation water of three model hydrophobic molecules, methane and two fullerenes (C60 and C80), were studied. Systems were simulated at temperatures in the range of 250−298 K. By analyzing both the local ordering of the molecules of water in the solvation layers and the structure of hydrogen bond network, it is shown that in the solvation layer of hydrophobic molecules, ordered...

Multidimensional Monitoring System of State Machines
PublicationTechnical systems are more complex every day as their electronics and mechanics. Technical advances tend to be autonomous in its performance and perform an auto-diagnosis that allows determining an abnormality existence in a component or subsystem and deciding if the system has to be stopped or not.

Homoclinics for singular strong force Lagrangian systems in R^N
PublicationWe will be concerned with the existence of homoclinics for second order Hamiltonian systems in R^N (N>2) given by Hamiltonians of the form H(t,q,p)=Φ(p)+V(t,q), where Φ is a G-function in the sense of Trudinger, V is C^2-smooth, periodic in the time variable, has a single well of infinite depth at a point ξ and a unique strict global maximum 0 at the origin. Under a strong force type condition aroud the singular point ξ, we prove...

Social Convergence in Nordic NUTS-3 Regions
PublicationGeographical proximity, common historical roots and collaboration within the Nordic Council make the Nordic countries, often wrongly treated as monoliths. However, in reality, Nordic regions differ in terms of broadly defined social and economic development. Issues concerning the standard of living are one of the priorities of the Helsinki Treaty signed by Nordic countries. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the existence...

Social convergence in Nordic countries at regional level
PublicationResearch background: Geographical proximity, common historical roots and collaboration within the Nordic Council cause the Nordic countries to be often wrongly treated as monoliths. However, in reality, Nordic regions differ in terms of broadly defined social and economic development. Issues concerning the standard of living are one of the priorities of the Helsinki Treaty signed by Nordic countries. Purpose of the article: The...

A Measurable Selector in Kadison’s Carpenter’s Theorem
PublicationWe show the existence of a measurable selector in Carpenter’s Theorem due to Kadison. This solves a problem posed by Jasper and the first author in an earlier work. As an application we obtain a characterization of all possible spectral functions of shift-invariant subspaces of L 2 (R d ) and Carpenter’s Theorem for type I ∞ von Neumann algebras.

Przemoc w stosunkach ukraińsko-rosyjskich w opinii polskiej prasy codziennej
PublicationThe five most widely read Polish newspapers informing about the creation Maidan in Kiev and protests against decisions of the Ukrainian authorities revealed the existence of internal political violence. The external violence is associated with the inclusion of Russia into the conflict. Since the turn of 2013/2014 in Ukrainian-Russian relations were recorded examples of economic violence.

Attractors of dissipative homeomorphisms of the infinite surface homeomorphic to a punctured sphere
PublicationA class of dissipative orientation preserving homeomorphisms of the infinite annulus, pairs of pants, or generally any infinite surface homeomorphic to a punctured sphere isconsidered. We prove that in some isotopy classes the local behavior of such homeomor-phisms at a fixed point, namely the existence of so-called inverse saddle, impacts thetopology of the attractor — it cannot be arcwise connected

The Analysis of Cross-Polarisation Discrimination for Body Area Networks in Cylindrical Metallic Environment
PublicationThe analysis of cross-polarisation discrimination for Body Area Networks in an untypical environment of cylindrical metallic room has been performed in the paper. This analysis was done based on the measurements carried out for dynamic narrowband off-body channels operating at the frequency of 2.45 GHz. The results have shown that there is a strong dependence of the depolarisation effect on the existence of direct component in...

A note on simple bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a deformable foundation
PublicationWe study bifurcation of equilibrium states of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation. In the article "Bifurcation of equilibrium forms of an elastic rod on a two-parameter Winkler foundation" [Nonlinear Anal., Real World Appl. 39 (2018) 451-463] the existence of simple bifurcation points was proved by the use of the Crandall-Rabinowitz theorem. In this paper we want to present an alternative proof of this fact based...

Giant Nernst effect in the incommensurate charge density wave state of P4W12O44
PublicationWe report the study of Nernst effect in quasi-low-dimensional tungsten bronze P4W12O44 showing a sequence of Peierls instabilities. We demonstrate that both condensation of the electronic carriers in the charge density wave state and the existence of high-mobility electrons and holes originating from the small pockets remaining in the incompletely nested Fermi surface give rise to a Nernst effect of a magnitude similar to that...
