Hydrogen Embrittlement and Oxide Layer E ect in the Cathodically Charged Zircaloy-2
PublicationThe present paper is aimed at determining the less investigated effects of hydrogen uptake on the microstructure and the mechanical behavior of the oxidized Zircaloy-2 alloy. The specimens were oxidized and charged with hydrogen. The different oxidation temperatures and cathodic current densities were applied. The scanning electron microscopy, X-ray electron diffraction spectroscopy, hydrogen absorption assessment, tensile, and...

Revealing dynamic changes of the volatile profile of food samples using PTR–MS
PublicationVolatile compounds carry valuable information regarding the properties of foodstuffs. Volatiles emitted from food can be used as, for example, indicators of quality, shelf-life, or authenticity. A better understanding of the multitude of transformations which occur during food processing could facilitate the optimisation of production, increase the desirability of food products, and also their wholesomeness. However, as some of...

THE EFFECT OF DRYING INTENSITY ON THE COLOR CHANGES OF PINE WOOD (PINUS SYLVESTRIS L.)
PublicationThe effect of the selection of drying process parameters on the color change of Scots pine wood (Pinus Sylvestris L.) is presented. In this work the experimental studies have been performed. The research focused on the influence of drying intensity on the changes of color after drying process. Intensity of drying process was determined on the basis of the average drying gradient. To determine the color of wood before and after...

Electronic structure calculations in electrolyte solutions: Methods for neutralization of extended charged interfaces
PublicationDensity functional theory (DFT) is often used for simulating extended materials such as infinite crystals or surfaces, under periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). In such calculations, when the simulation cell has non-zero charge, electrical neutrality has to be imposed, and this is often done via a uniform background charge of opposite sign (“jellium”). This artificial neutralization does not occur in reality, where a different...

Statistical evaluation of the changes in cellulose properties caused by the stepwise solvent exchange and esterification
PublicationThe objective of the research was to empirically confirm the changes in cellulose reactivity caused by the pre-treatment with solvents of different polarity. Therefore, 5 solvents varying in their polar component of surface tension from 0 to 4.6 mN/m were chosen. Their impact on the biopolymer properties was carefully analysed concerning chemical structure, crystallinity and surface characteristics. It was revealed that the length...

Study of Soil Temperature and Moisture Changes in a Physical Model of an Underground Cable Line
PublicationThe ampacity of power cables is highly dependent on the thermal resistivity of the soil in which they are laid. The lower it is, the higher this ampacity. The thermal resistivity of the soil decreases as its moisture increases. Therefore, it is preferable that the soil around the cables has high moisture. Unfortunately, the heat generated in heavily loaded cables causes the migration of moisture from the surrounding soil, which...

Hydrological responses to large-scale changes in land cover of river watershed: Review
PublicationDespite many studies on the hydrological responses to forest cover changes in micro and mesoscale watersheds, the hydrological responses to forest cover alterations and associated mechanisms through the large spatial scale of the river watershed have not been comprehensively perceived. This paper thus reviews a wide range of available scientific evidence concerning the impacts exerted by the forest removal on precipitation, water...

Changes in the Global Competitiveness Index 4.0 Methodology: The Improved Approach of Competitiveness Benchmarking
PublicationThe Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) developed by the World Economic Forum (WEF) is used as a standard for measuring a country’s competitiveness. However, in literature, the GCI has been accused of numerous methodological flaws. Consequently, in 2018, the WEF introduced significant methodological changes. This study aims to examine whether the methodological modifications in the GCI’s structure increase its ability to capture...

The Changes of Groundwater Quality on the ''Czarny Dwór'' Intake in the Light of Polish-Swedish Investigations.

Charge photogeneration effect on the exciplex emission from thin organic films
PublicationZaobserwowano silne wygaszenie fluorescencji i fosforescencji ekscypleksowej w układzie dwuamina TPD (donor elektronu): pochodna fenantroliny BPT (akceptor elektronu) w zewnętrznym polu elektrycznym. Efekt ten przypisano wygaszaniu molekularnych ekscytonów singletowych TPD na elektronach akceptorów BPT.

Coexistence of dissociation and annihilation of excitons on charge carriers in organic phosphorescent emitters
PublicationW pracy badano elektrycznopolową dysocjację ekscytonów i wygaszanie ekscytonów na nośnikach ładunku elektrycznego w organicznym kompleksie irydu (III), umieszczonego w matrycy poliwęglan : dwuamina TPD. Proces dysocjacji ekscytonów jest zgodny z trójwymiarowym modelem Onsagera. Analiza ilościowa wygaszenia ładunkowego fotoluminescencji pozwoliła wyznaczyć stałe oddziaływania ekscyton - ładunek elektryczny.

Giant Nernst effect in the incommensurate charge density wave state of P4W12O44
PublicationWe report the study of Nernst effect in quasi-low-dimensional tungsten bronze P4W12O44 showing a sequence of Peierls instabilities. We demonstrate that both condensation of the electronic carriers in the charge density wave state and the existence of high-mobility electrons and holes originating from the small pockets remaining in the incompletely nested Fermi surface give rise to a Nernst effect of a magnitude similar to that...

Is the Solid Electrolyte Interphase an Extra-Charge Reservoir in Li-Ion Batteries?
PublicationAdvanced metal oxide electrodes in Li-ion batteries usually show reversible capacities exceeding the theoretically expected ones. Despite many studies and tentative interpretations, the origin of this extra-capacity is not assessed yet. Lithium storage can be increased through different chemical processes developing in the electrodes during charging cycles. The solid electrolyte interface (SEI), formed already during the first...

Magnetism and charge density waves in RNiC2(R=Ce,Pr,Nd)
PublicationWe have compared the magnetic, transport, galvanomagnetic, and specific-heat properties of CeNiC2, PrNiC2, and NdNiC2 to study the interplay between charge density waves (CDW) and magnetism in these compounds. The negative magnetoresistance in NdNiC2 is discussed in terms of the partial destruction of charge density waves and an irreversible phase transition stabilized by the field-induced ferromagnetic transformation is reported....
