On the crack front curvature in bonded joints
PublikacjaStandard tests of adhesively bonded specimens are likely to produce heterogeneous stress distribution along the crack front and its vicinity. High separation rate mode I dominated fracture test is performed.Observation of post mortem fractured surfaces with an optical microscope reveals characteristic features of mixed mode I/III fracture near the sides of the specimen but not in the middle. At first, finite elements calculations...

On local buckling of cold-formed channel members
PublikacjaThe paper deals with local buckling of the compressed flanges of cold-formed thin-walled channel beams subjected to pure bending or axially compressed columns. Arbitrarily shaped flanges of open cross-sections and the web-flange interactions are taken into account. Buckling deformation of a beam flange is described by displacement related to torsion of the flange about the line of its connection with the web. Total potential energy...

Building a Nest by an Automaton
PublikacjaA robot modeled as a deterministic finite automaton has to build a structure from material available to it. The robot navigates in the infinite oriented grid $Z x Z$. Some cells of the grid are full (contain a brick) and others are empty. The subgraph of the grid induced by full cells, called the {\em field}, is initially connected. The (Manhattan) distance between the farthest cells of the field is called its {\em span}. The robot...

Thermal visualization of Ostwald-de Waele liquid in wavy trapezoidal cavity: Effect of undulation and amplitude
PublikacjaThe present study is concerned with the numerical simulations of Ostwald-de Waele fluid flow in a wavy trapezoidal cavity in the presence of a heated cylinder situated at the center of the cavity. The work consists in characterizing the mixed convection as a function of the intensity of heat flow. The flow behaviour and temperature distribution in a cavity are the main focus of this study. The lower wall of the cavity is fixed...

At the Limits of Criticality-Based Quantum Metrology: Apparent Super-Heisenberg Scaling Revisited
PublikacjaWe address the question of whether the super-Heisenberg scaling for quantum estimation is indeed realizable. We unify the results of two approaches. In the first one, the original system is compared with its copy rotated by the parameter-dependent dynamics. If the parameter is coupled to the one-body part of the Hamiltonian, the precision of its estimation is known to scale at most as N−1 (Heisenberg scaling) in terms of the number...

Failure Analysis of footbridge made of composite materials
PublikacjaFinite element method analysis of a pedestrian footbridge made of sandwich material is presented. The internal structure of the material is modelled as a structural shell assuming the Equivalent Single Layer approach (ESL). Two FEM commercial codes are employed. The response of the structure is studied in order to determine the load level that activates Hashin and Tsai-Wu failure criteria. Some practical aspects of designing footbridges...

Calculation of self and mutual inductances of the switched reluctance machine mathematical model.
PublikacjaA mathematical model of the switched reluctance machine (SRM) in a drive system obtained using Lagrange's energy method and a method of calculation of self and mutual inductances of the SRM are presented in the paper. The self and mutual inductances are elements of Lagrange's function in generalised coordinates and have been calculated using the finite element method (FEM). Selected calculation results for the particular machine...

Analysis of Crash Computation on a Basis of the Pronciple of Linear Momentum and Kinetic Energy
PublikacjaThe article shows the calculation of a vehicle crash with a fixed pile, modelled by the finite element method. There were compared during the crash simulations changes in kinetic energy, as well as – changes in linear momentum and its derivative, with respect to time. Calculations were made in the HyperWorks CAE software environment. The obtained results show influence of various body parts and devices of the deceleration on...

A New Method of Noncausal Identification of Time-varying Systems
PublikacjaThe paper shows that the problem of noncausal identification of a time-varying FIR (finite impulse response) sys- tem can be reformulated, and solved, as a problem of smoothing of the preestimated parameter trajectories. Characteristics of the smoothing filter should be chosen so as to provide the best trade- off between the bias and variance of the resulting estimates. It is shown that optimization of the smoothing operation can...

Modal FEM Analysis of Ferrite Resonant Structures
PublikacjaThe finite-element method (FEM) is applied for modal analysis of ferrite-loaded spherical resonators. To improve the efficiency of the numerical calculations, the body-of-revolution (BOR) technique is utilized. Due to the frequency-dependent ferrite permeability, FEM leads to a nonlinear eigenvalue problem that is challenging to solve. To this end, Beyn’s method is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is confirmed...

Wykazano,że zamiana CaO na Na2O w małym stopniu zmienia przewodnictwo elektryczne szkieł, co sugeruje, że przewodnictwo w szkłach zawierających Na2O ma charakter elektronowy. Do badania procesów migracji elektronów i jonów zastosowano metodę tarcia wewnętrznego. W widmie tarcia wewnętrznego...

CGO as a barrier layer between LSCF electrodes and YSZ electrolyte fabricated by spray pyrolysis for solid oxide fuel cells
PublikacjaPerovskite La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3 − δ (LSCF) is often used as a cathode material for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) due to high mixed ionic and electronic conductivity and good catalytic activity. Unfortunately, sintering of the LSCF cathode together with the yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte, leads to formation of the La2Zr2O7 and SrZrO3 phases in the interface. These phases increase the resistance of the cell. To avoid...
