INVESTIGATION OF SOUR SUBSTANCES BY FIVE-CHANNEL POTENTIOMETRIC TASTE SENSOR CONTAINING ALL-SOLID-STATE- ELECTRODES (ASSEs)
PublikacjaAn elaboration of taste sensor for discrimination of different food products is of great importance for food industry. Potentiometric taste sensor containing ion selective electrodes with lipid/polymer membranes has already been applied commercially in food industry. However, time-consuming and demanding preconditioning method of ions selective electrodes as well as maintenance of electrodes’ bodies are disadvantages of this taste...

Membrane separation processes for the extraction and purification of steviol glycosides: an overview
PublikacjaSteviol glycosides (SGs), as natural sweeteners from Stevia rebaudiana, are currently employed for replacing sugar and its derivatives in several food products and formulations. Such compounds play an essential role in human health. Their usage provides a positive effect on preventing diseases related to sugar consumption, including diabetes mellitus, cancer, and lipid metabolism disorders. The traditional extraction of SGs is...

Edible Lepidoptera as human foods – a comprehensive review
PublikacjaAs the global population continues to grow, traditional protein sources like meat and fish are becoming increasingly unsustainable due to their environmental impact. Edible insects, on the other hand, are highly nutritious, require minimal resources to produce, and emit significantly fewer greenhouse gases than traditional livestock. Lepidoptera, one of the most diverse insect orders, contains some popular edible species that have...

TF-IDF weighted bag-of-words preprocessed text documents from Simple English Wikipedia
Dane BadawczeThe SimpleWiki2K-scores dataset contains TF-IDF weighted bag-of-words preprocessed text documents (raw strings are not available) [feature matrix] and their multi-label assignments [label-matrix]. Label scores for each document are also provided for an enhanced multi-label KNN [1] and LEML [2] classifiers. The aim of the dataset is to establish a benchmark...

The interaction between bacterial abundance and selected pollutants concentration levels in an arctic catchment (southwest Spitsbergen, Svalbard)
PublikacjaPersistent organic pollutants (POPs) have been a topic of interest in environmental sciences for > 60 years. POPs in the Arctic have been investigated since the 1970s, when first atmospheric measurements revealed the presence of these pollutants in the polar regions. Major contaminant transport routes to the Arctic include atmospheric and oceanic transport, as well as inflow from rivers and sea ice. The sources of pollutants, such...

Microorganisms in the air within the Gdańsk-Szadółki landfill and adjacent area in 2016
Dane BadawczeThe data collection contains the results of microbiological examination of air samples collected at Gdańsk Szadółki Landfill (Poland). The Gdańsk Szadółki Landfill is one of the biggest of facilities of this type in the country. It occupies an area of 75 hectares and serves around 500 thousand of local residents. The landfill receives around 250 million...

Strength analysis of container ship subjected to torsional loading
PublikacjaThe objective of this work is to investigate the torsional response of a container ship, with particular consideration of the warping effect. Two different models are investigated. In the first case, the full length model of a ship is analyzed and a distributed load is applied with the use of a novel approach. The model is supported in the torsional centre of the cross-section, which is derived analytically. In the second case,...

Experimental research of the effect of face milling strategy on the flatness deviations
PublikacjaIn this paper the dependencies between face milling strategy of EN AW6082-T6 aluminum alloy samples, with difference thicknesses (6, 8, and 12 mm) and two cold rolling directions, and flatness deviations were presented. Three strategies of milling included different proportions of material removed from both sides of the plates. This approach allowed to control the proportions of residual surface stresses on both sides of the specimens,...

Isothiocyanates may chemically detoxify mutagenic amines formed in heat processed meat
PublikacjaMeat consumption represents a dietary risk factor increasing the incidence of common cancers, probably due to carcinogenic amines (HAAs) formed upon meat heating. Interestingly, cancers whose incidence is increased by meat consumption, are decreased in populations consuming brassica vegetables regularly. This inverse correlation is attributed to brassica anticarcinogenic components, especially isothiocyanates (ITCs) that stimulate...

Potentiometric taste sensor application for liquid product taste estimation
PublikacjaThe principles of taste sense and kinds of tastes (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami and fat) have been described. Food quality estimation by taste sense: organoleptic testing and sensory analysis has been presented. The principle of operation of potentiometric sensor composed of several Ion Selective Electrodes or All Solid State Electrodes with polymeric membranes and macromolecular chemical compounds sensitive to substances...

Behavior Analysis and Dynamic Crowd Management in Video Surveillance System
PublikacjaA concept and practical implementation of a crowd management system which acquires input data by the set of monitoring cameras is presented. Two leading threads are considered. First concerns the crowd behavior analysis. Second thread focuses on detection of a hold-ups in the doorway. The optical flow combined with soft computing methods (neural network) is employed to evaluate the type of crowd behavior, and fuzzy logic aids detection...

Determination of MDPBP in postmortem blood samples by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry
PublikacjaMDPBP (1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-2-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-1-butanone) is a new psychoactive substance sold on the black market. It has been a controlled drug of abuse in Poland and China since 2015 as some toxic and fatal cases connected with use of synthetic cathinone derivatives were observed. The fatal case outlined here concerns a 19 year-old man, who was found dead with an envelope containing white powder lying nearby the cadaver....

Influence of the internal electrolyte composition on amperometric sulphur dioxide sensor properties
PublikacjaIn this work amperometric sulphur dioxide sensor with a liquid electrolyte, a mercury sulphate reference electrode and solid polymer electrolyte (Nafion) covered with gold as a working electrode will be presented. The main goal of this research is to determine the influence of internal electrolyte composition on the sensor properties. Sensor filled with 1M and 5M sulphuric acid has been investigated.

Polyethylene as a small vessel's building material
PublikacjaThe most common use of polyethylene we can notice nowadays are areas like water supply systems, gas industry (esp. gas piping), food industry, small-scale, light and consumer goods industries. That material has far more applications. One of them is shipbuilding - especially small inland or offshore vessels.

The influence of settable parameters of switching gasoline/LPG on exhaust toxic emissions
PublikacjaThe main objective of the studies shown in the paper was to develop a proper strategy for settable parameters of ECU to decrease total emission of toxic components in composition of exhaust during a cold start phase. The experimental research has been performed for engine running at idle and for engine running on the chassis dynamometer (performing European Driving Test NEDC).

Folding‐upon‐repair DNA nanoswitches for monitoring DNA repair enzymes activity
PublikacjaWe demonstrate here a new class of DNA‐based nanoswitches that, upon enzymatic repair, could undergo a conformational change mechanism leading to a change in fluorescent signal. Such folding‐upon‐repair DNA nanoswitches are synthetic DNA sequences containing O6‐methyl‐guanine (O6‐MeG) nucleobases and labelled with a fluorophore/quencher optical pair. The nanoswitches are rationally designed so that only upon enzymatic demethylation...
