  • Isotope shifts of multipole lines of Pb I and Pb II

    Publication

    - JOURNAL OF THE OPTICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA B-OPTICAL PHYSICS - Year 2010

Studies of isotope shifts of three multipole lines between levels of the ground configuration 6s26p2 of Pb I, i.e.: 461.9 nm(1S0→3P1), 531.5 nm(1S0→3P2) and 733.2 nm(1D2→3P1), as well as 710.2 nm line (6s26p2P3∕2→6s26p2P1∕2) of Pb II are presented. We determined the isotope shifts between four stable isotopes: 204, 206, 207, 208. By the use of King plot analysis we were able to separate the mass and the field shifts. We found that...

We present experimental and theoretical investigations of the He spectral series 2S1−nQ1 (n=3÷9, Q=S,P,D,…,n−1) and 2P1−nQ1 (n=3÷9, Q=S,P,D,…,n−1) in electric fields up to 1635 kV/cm. Apart from the allowed transitions with |ΔL|=1, the transitions with |ΔL|=0,2,3,…-without field strictly forbidden-were observed. Several He patterns become similar to hydrogen patterns, which means they are nearly symmetric and show in higher fields...

Melissa officinalis L. is a medicinal plant used worldwide for ethno-medical purposes. Today, it is grown everywhere; while it is known to originate from Southern Europe, it is now found around the world, from North America to New Zealand. The biological properties of this medicinal plant are mainly related to its high content of phytochemical (bioactive) compounds, such as flavonoids, polyphenolic compounds, aldehydes, glycosides...

  • Political Sources of Government Redistribution in High-Income Countries

    Publication

    - Year 2013

In cross-national empirical work on income inequality and government redistribution, the greatest emphasis has been on the extremes of the income scale. Less work has been done on groups that are neither rich nor poor—the middle class. The lack of attention to this group is unfortunate for several reasons. Most obviously, the middle class, if defined as the three middle income quintile groups, is by far the largest income group,...

  • Anti-plane waves in an elastic thin strip with surface energy

We consider anti-plane motions of an elastic plate taking into account surface energy within the linear Gurtin–Murdoch surface elasticity. Two boundary-value problems are considered that describe complete shear dynamics of a plate with free faces or with free and clamped faces, respectively. These problems correspond to anti-plane dynamics of an elastic film perfectly or non-perfectly attached to a rigid substrate. Detailed analysis...

  • Estimation of the size of informal employment based on administrative records with non‐ignorable selection mechanism

In this study, we used company level administrative data from the National Labour Inspectorate and The Polish Social Insurance Institution in order to estimate the prevalence of informal employment in Poland in 2016. Since the selection mechanism is non‐ignorable, we employed a generalization of Heckman’s sample selection model assuming non‐Gaussian correlation of errors and clustering by incorporation of random effects. We found...

  • Application of two-dimensional intensity maps in high-accuracy polarimetry

We propose the analysis of 2D intensity contour maps which is based on the optical transmission function for the polarizer-specimen-analyzer system. A small modification of the high-accuracy universal polarimeter (HAUP) technique was used to measure the intensity maps (HAUP maps) and determine the phase retardation, linear dichroism (LD) parameters, and multiple light reflection contribution in uniaxial crystals. We have performed...

  • Strongly anisotropic surface elasticity and antiplane surface waves

Within the new model of surface elasticity, the propagation of anti-plane surface waves is discussed. For the proposed model, the surface strain energy depends on surface stretching and on changing of curvature along a preferred direction. From the continuum mechanics point of view, the model describes finite deformations of an elastic solid with an elastic membrane attached on its boundary reinforced by a family of aligned elastic...

A method of high accuracy polarimetry, which includes optical activity measurements systematic errors, was realized with dual-wavelength polarimeter for two wavelengths of 635 and 650 nm. Simultaneous measurements with neighboring wavelengths significantly improved the data processing, by increasing the amount of data to eliminate the systematic errors. For langasite crystal La3Ga5SiO14 we measured temperature dependence of the...

  • Simulating coherent light propagation in a random scattering materials using the perturbation expansion

Multiple scattering of a coherent light plays important role in the optical metrology. Probably the most important phenomenon caused by multiple scattering are the speckle patterns present in every optical imaging method based on coherent or partially coherent light illumination. In many cases the speckle patterns are considered as an undesired noise. However, they were found useful in various subsurface imaging methods such as...
